Found a great article I think everyone should read!

The thing about Butch is he knows how to win, as evidenced by his 50-27 record as a head coach.

“The big thing is learning how to win,” Jones said. “Losing is a disease. You have to stop losing before you can start winning"

And where some might see obstacles, Butch see's opportunities.

“I don’t think it’s pressure,” Jones said. “I think it’s passion. It’s passion and energy toward Tennessee football. I love it. The fan base has very high standards and expectations. That’s the way you want it. No matter how high they get, they will never be as high as my or my coaching staff’s expectations. The most pressure we feel is the pressure we put on ourselves.”

The team is starting to buy into the system he brought from Cincinnati, they are doing all the little things to get better as a team.

“You look at this program, I think the biggest thing is it needs consistency,” said Jones, the third man to take over Tennessee’s program since the firing of Phillip Fulmer in 2009. “It needs stability. It needs one vision. It takes time. Winning doesn’t just happen overnight. You’ve got to win the little things. The little things become the big things.”

Anyway, I am also very fired up about spring practice and hope my schedule allows me to get to Knoxville for the spring game. Everyone who is able should definitely try to be there.

This is the key to everything. How many games did we lose through the last several years? I don't mean that we got beat by a better team. I mean that WE LOST? There were several games that we handed our opponants a win on a silver platter.

I used a similar anaolgy once with a student. He told me he sucked on a particular project he was working on. I pulled him aside and said I was going to give him a little one on one class time. He sat down and got ready for me to "teach him" something. All I said was "stop sucking".

He got a funny look on his face and said sarcastically "Thanks, big help". I said I know it is, if you will actually take my advice, to which he asked what I meant. I asked him what he was doing wrong and he proceeded to tell me exactly everything he had done wrong.

I repeated. "Stop Sucking then". If you know exactly what you are doing wrong and you say you suck because of it. Stop doing it. Go back and listen to what your teachers are saying. Talk to your classmates that are doing it right and change what you are doing. In short....."Stop Sucking".

A couple of days later said student came up to me in the hallway with a smile on his face. I asked him how he was doing. As he walked by he said. "I stopped Sucking" and thanked me.

Thats great. Until he wins here, he is a coach. A great coach winning anywhere makes him a great coach. He is with the big boys now. We shall see. With this said....he has my 110% backing and I will be at the O&W game.

Hey I'm very positive about CBJ. Excited he's here, think he's done everything right so far and gonna do great things in the near future. I saw the article too and liked it. However, I kinda chuckled when he said something like you can't start winning til you stop losing. Really? Thanks tips. Again, I'm a big fan, just thought that comment was a little to canned and, dare I say, a bit obvious?

The key to winning is identifying and eliminating attitudes and behaviors that increase chances of losing. Hope CBJ is up to the challenge. Thanks to the OP. :twocents:

Nice. Love your non pc way of teaching that kid a quick life lesson. Kids these days could use more advice like that. Good job.

Two ways to lose a game.

1) Get beat by a better team
2) Hand a win to a team of equal or less talent.

I'd like to think he was referring to the second. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think CBJ was stating an obvious. He was saying the team has to stop beating itself. JMO though.

Thanks. I love seeing the lightbulb turn on when a young man or woman finally grasps something in school. Sometimes you have to step outside of what is considered the norm to accomplish that.

Wish our fans would show out to the O/W game this year. By show out I'm not talking about the annual 30k. We need to show up in force. But that won't happen. As our fans talk a good game, we'll simply get outdone by other SEC fanbases.

Did CBJ also say....You won't have the Vols to kick around anymore.

I do like his energy....it will catch on with the players for sure.

He has brought more energy & hope in 3 months on the job than everyone put together in the last 5-7 yrs! I think he will succeed. No reason he won't with our tradition, fans, facility, history, etc. I'm there April 20th with orange on!

Do you think letting Jay Graham get away was the right thing to do?

Good story, seriously. My tag line underneath my posts here used to read, "Find out what you don't do well, then don't do it." It sounds funny, but there's a ton of truth to it.

Definitely not coach speak. I believe he is sincere in what he is saying and means it.

His main question mark at this point is recruiting at the SEC level. If he can do that then this team should begin to show progress over the next 3 years. It's not going to happen in his first season.
