Why is Palardy working out his arms? No wonder he sucks!
This is the key to everything. How many games did we lose through the last several years? I don't mean that we got beat by a better team. I mean that WE LOST? There were several games that we handed our opponants a win on a silver platter.
I used a similar anaolgy once with a student. He told me he sucked on a particular project he was working on. I pulled him aside and said I was going to give him a little one on one class time. He sat down and got ready for me to "teach him" something. All I said was "stop sucking".
He got a funny look on his face and said sarcastically "Thanks, big help". I said I know it is, if you will actually take my advice, to which he asked what I meant. I asked him what he was doing wrong and he proceeded to tell me exactly everything he had done wrong.
I repeated. "Stop Sucking then". If you know exactly what you are doing wrong and you say you suck because of it. Stop doing it. Go back and listen to what your teachers are saying. Talk to your classmates that are doing it right and change what you are doing. In short....."Stop Sucking".
A couple of days later said student came up to me in the hallway with a smile on his face. I asked him how he was doing. As he walked by he said. "I stopped Sucking" and thanked me.
I like the 'stop sucking' counsel. Your attitude affects your outcome far, far more than most believe, and I think emotions play a far bigger role in high school and college sports than professional. The process Butch describes of first learning how to stop losing, and then learning how to win, will definitely translate into a better record. Whether it is winning more games or keeping games tighter, the team's belief will affect the outcome. I was really struck by the mental and emotional discipline of a Cincy team that came back from being down 16-0, to being ahead, to being 2 yards from losing with about a minute and a half left, to winning by 14. That is the result of the mental process he is describing. It matters.
I will also say that the negative comments by the fan base has a far bigger impact on our team than they believe. Put yourself in the shoes of a 17 year old kid, and imagine his perspective when he reads through comments on the site. Anyone here who claims to be a fan, and claims they want to win, but constantly spouts negatives...isn't helping. How many possible recruits are turned off by the guys constantly claiming that we can't recruit. Stop sucking.
Another example: Jay Graham. Let it go. You don't know the real issues. You don't know why he left. You don't know why Butch 'let him get away', if in fact he did. You know he is gone and he has been replaced. I suspect there were deeper issues and they weren't strictly one-sided as some here seem to believe. For just once, why don't you choose to believe that the HC knows what he is doing, and that based on the information he had, he did what he thought was best. The insistence that Butch messed up has zero basis in fact, and even if it is true, whining about it doesn't make the current situation any better. Stop sucking.
I'm not suggesting that we have a forum full of mindless sunshine pumpers. I'm just suggesting that everyone choose to believe the best until there is definite information to prove otherwise. If Butch starts losing games on the last play with 13 men on the field, that justifies some strong negative feedback. Until then, stop sucking.

Why can't it happen in his first season? I'm not asking because that's what I'm expecting. Asking because teams do it all the time...see Texas A&M last season. Why can't we be a surprise team?
Don't have the talent or personnel for that to happen..yet. You're looking at team starting a new QB and WR's. New coaching staff, New offensive scheme. I think this team will show some fight and progress, but talent always wins out. This team just isn't there yet. Most realistic fans already know this. What we are really looking for is this team to play hard and show progress week to week. The wins will eventually come once the talent and coaching plays in.
No one is doubting, or at least me, that Butch is genuinely excited and hyped. But it is still coach speak.
Every coach has the same canned quotes that they carry from one new job to the next.
Not an indictment of Jones, but if he would have been hired by Purdue, Colorado, or Kentucky, he would have been playing up their tradition such as it is and been enthusiastic for Spring as well.
I say the opposite until he beats a meaningful sec team i say we be cautious with our support n make him earn it. Not being a sheep doesn't mean we r not fans or know sports.
Everything this staff n university publishes n the media concerning this staff is.planned.. Pure propaganda.. Nothing wrong with it but it doesn't mean squat when he goes to fla...
Gbo..
Your life must really suck. Thanks for the uplifting story. Now, could you please stfu? :mf_surrender:Thats great. Until he wins here, he is a coach. A great coach winning anywhere makes him a great coach. He is with the big boys now. We shall see. With this said....he has my 110% backing and I will be at the O&W game.
Thanks. I love seeing the lightbulb turn on when a young man or woman finally grasps something in school. Sometimes you have to step outside of what is considered the norm to accomplish that.
