CBJ says Couch has been ruled ineligible..

Regarding the agents facing any punishment? I don't know. A lot of agents are attorneys and I'm sure they'll find a loop hole.

Plus, the money was received by an "adult" even if it was the player. Ineligibility isn't illegal.

That's part of the problem.

Texas has a law that if you cost amateurs their eligibility its a felony. That changed those brokers stories that screamed about Manziels autograph sessions all the sudden are quiet once that law was put in front of them. All states should adopt that law and then it would be career suicide to go to these players.

The NFLPA needs to hold the agent accountable. If an agent gives $$ to a student athlete while he still has eligibility left/is playing, NFLPA needs to ban that agent for 5 years. He cant even represent his existing clients. (other players that obtained his services legally) This would definitely deter some of this mess. Until the agents are penalized by the NFL, they will continue giving $$, just not thru Western Union. BTW, that has gotta be the dumbest way to send $$ secretly. MORONS!!!

Seriously....I feel bad for Butch. We are a dumpster fire ! I don't care who gets blamed, what the punishment is, or who the HELL did what to who. Just clean out the damn closet once and for all and let us move on !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So what was all of this "heat exhaustion" BS from yesterday?

That's the problem with instant news, you can't get away with BS!

There is no way old school coaches like: Bryant, Hayes, Schembechler, Majors, etc. would last in this day and age.

So...no one has an answer to my question?

There are laws on the books in Alabama that address this type of thing as it pertains to compromising the eligibility of an athlete. In theory, the AG in Alabama might have something to say about this, but who knows?

If the NCAA isn't going to overhaul its stance on paying players, this might be the only realistic solution.

I agree with you, but you're dealing with a group of people that know how to manipulate the law to their favor.

How can you prove that the amateur didn't take the $$$ willingly? That would negate the felony if the athlete knew what he was doing. Shady all around, I know.

Not happy. It's unfortunate he evidently made this mistake. And it's not UT's fault. I do think its better to just acknowledge and move on than to dance around it. Kudos to CBJ for meeting that head on.

Go ahead and get it off of your chest and admit that u love the VOLS! LOL

My trust is in CBJ! This is the right move ... If Couch did it he should be immediately kicked off the team. On the other hand, if he is innocent Couch should fight it to the end and I am confident CBJ will stand with him. Time will tell!

well i hate to be the bearer of bad tidings here but sometimes it is not quite as simple as kicking the malefactor off your team(of course i am assuming here mr couch very well could be entirely innocent).

if the person who allegedly gave him the money was connected with your program he could be considered a booster. the oregon ducks went through that recently with willie lyles and $200,000 dollars in legal fees, mountains of bad publicity and a 3 year white glove inspection by the NCAA later we finally have that behind us.

or it could be like the johnny football autograph case where he was cleared in a week.

ya never know. the NCAA moveth in mysterious ways.

Yea...the guy that gave him the money played football for the crimson tide so I doubt anyone will/would consider him a Tennessee booster.

Excellent idea!....would cut the root of this problem...makes too much sense to actually happen though...the NFL itself would be more proactive than the NFLPA...though the players should want this cleanup more

Or.....he could repay the amount received to a charity and sit out a 2 game, NCAA mandated suspension as other players have received and finish out the year. I'm not condoning what Mo Couch did but the hate exhibited here for a VOL makes me scratch my head sometimes. What ever happened to standing behind a VFL through thick and thin?

If I'm a recruit when I see how some of our fans are so eager to kick a player to the curb, I wondering if I want to be at a University when the fans so eagerly ready to turn their backs on one of their own.

Where you been? You haven't posted in a long while.

I served a suspension for posting a reference material with a link to someone with ties to the University. It caused him a bunch of grief. He got a ton of text and phone calls and he could hardly get his work done. It was a a bad decision on my behalf to put his name on here and I have learned my lesson and thank Freak for the second chance. ON a lighter note it is good to be back.

What was it in reference to?

Without too much detail the coaching replacement for Dooley and that is all Ill say. I apologized to the person but he had already been notified by tons of folks. I didnt have his permission to post it. So end end of story. Im back in their good graces I think, well they are professional person so as far as I know anyways. I will encourage anyone if anyone has anything they want to post to think about will it give any "Our" people a awkward sticky situation to deal with. Like I said good to be back though.

I'm not hating on Couch.

A VFL would not put his team or the university in this type of situation.

I think that's the point of those on here with little tolerance for a player that does such as this.

"My university is on probation. My team has been through quite a bit of turmoil. We are trying to rebuild. How should I conduct myself in mind of that and of fair play in the contract I signed with the Vols? Yah. I'll take money from an agent."

I was sooo glad when Mo Couch committed to UT, and I am sorry about his situation. He needs us, and we need him, but this is no time to throw a pity party.
