I stand corrected. Outstanding work, sir."Four Vols have come in second, but none has ever won. Tennessee has had many candidates for the Heisman over the years, starting when George Cafego, the top pick in the 1940 NFL Draft, finished fourth in the 1939 Heisman balloting. Two of the four runners-up came close, the other two did not.
Hank Lauricella in 1951 finished a distant second to Dick Kazmaier of Princeton. Lauricella was the Vols’ single-wing tailback who led the team to some version of a national championship in both 1950 and 1951.
In 1956, Johnny Majors lost a very close vote to Paul Hornung of Notre Dame, 1066–994. This was controversial because Tennessee had gone 10–0 and Notre Dame went 2–8, but the only reason either had a chance was because two different players from national champion Oklahoma finished third and fourth, with 973 and 724 points. Third-place finisher Tommy McDonald had more first-place votes than either Hornung or Majors. If the Sooners had promoted just one player for the Heisman, they’d have probably taken this one.
In 1993, Heath Shuler finished second to Charlie Ward in the same sense that Germany finished second in World War II, 2310–688 in points.
Four years later, Peyton Manning finished second to Michigan’s Charles Woodson, 1815–1543. This one is still being argued about today anywhere college football history is discussed. Manning appeared to be on his way to winning until Woodson had a spectacular game against Ohio State late in the regular season."
That can be a function of the offenses they face each week too. UGA has a top 5 defense but has only played 1 team in the top 50 in offense. Is their defense that great or have they just played crappy teams? That one is rhetorical cause we know they’re pretty good.TCU has played against only one defense ranked in the top 75. None of the rest crack the top 100.
This Randy guy is a prime example of why we will never have a heisman winner. Lol BY missed a game and a half. The Ohio State bias will win out leaving Hooker as the runner up.Heisman Ballots of the commentators:

They absolutely have not played 7 top 50 offenses. Colorado, Tarleton State, Kansas, nor Kansas St. are ranked in the top 50 offenses. Unless you are speaking of future opponents then Tennessee will also play more top 50 opponents. That can be a function of the offenses they face each week too. Are TCU’s defensive opponents that bad or are they just playing against legit offenses every week? It’s a chicken or egg scenario. TCU’s schedule as it stands today will include 7 teams with top 50 offenses that are all in turn each playing each other. So they’re (TCU & B12 brethren) either putting up really good numbers because they’re all pretty good offensively or because the defenses are all truly that bad. TCU has already played against 4 top 50 scoring teams where they might have needed to “out-score” their opponent, we’ve played 2 so far.
I said the way it stands today, meaning if no one falls off, they will have played 7 over the course of the season. Poor wording, my apologies. They still have TX, TTU, Baylor and WVU to go who are all top 50 offenses right now. We will play a total of 4, if everyone on our schedule stays put; UGA, Bama, UF and LSU.They absolutely have not played 7 top 50 offenses.
