these writers and computers take last year and preseason polls into account. The real playoff committee is not supposed to, a 10-2 Tennessee will 100% get in over a 10-2 Bama team (assuming our loss is to Georgia)

And the Texas and Texas A&M thing is just the lure of letting whom ever loses the last game of the year get a second shot - in other words a hopefully revenge build up game.

Don’t think Jerry has thought this through in his prediction. If Texas A&M is the 11 seed and Texas is the #6 then that has to mean that Texas beat A&M last game of the year giving A&M two losses. I guess he thinks a Tennessee loss to presumably Georgia and Arkansas on the road is worse than a home losses to notre dame and Texas for A&M. Granted preseason he picked A&M to make the playoffs so I guess he is riding with them.
We do need A&M and LSU to start losing some games though or Texas to lose two more.

Georgia and TX will have 1 loss each and play the SECCG.

Tennessee, LSU, Mizzou, TAMU all finish with 2 losses

Bama finishes with 3 losses.

Mizzou is about to play their by far biggest. opponent of the year and will almost certainly lose to Bama. Their resume is going to suck

LSU is going to lose to TAMU and then turn around and beat Bama. LSU will give us the most competition for a spot in the playoffs if they also beat Bama.

TAMU is going to lose to TX at the very end of the year which will ruin their chance to get in.

Tennessee will lose to Georgia but this is after 2 weeks of winning and then they have 2 more weeks to improve their ranking after that. I think UT is in the best position of all with our 2 losses being on the road and one of them being against the #1 or #2 team in the country.

In that scenario I think we have the most impressive resume of the 2 loss teams and will likely (almost certainly) be ranked higher than all of them because a loss to Georgia will not drop us out of the top 10.

The real question is what happens in the other conferences. Right now the B10 has 4 solid choices. This will determine if a 4th SEC team gets let in.

We DO NOT have to be at UGA to get into the playoffs.

Bama is projected in at 10-2 but Tennessee now must beat Georgia to make it in. How does that make sense?

”I have said all along that Tennessee would have to beat either Alabama or Georgia to earn a CFP berth, but with Texas A&M still in play, the Volunteers may very well have to beat Georgia when they travel to Athens on Nov. 16. We should have a better idea whether that is must-win for the Vols by then.”

the game being late in the season is a factor. Losing late you fall in the rankings. Bama likely won't get past LSU at LSU unless they start playing a lot better than they have recently. They aren't a threat for playoffs IMO

It will all work itself out. Every team still has a very possible loss on their schedule:

Alabama isn’t winning at LSU. Missouri could even be hard for them.

A&M isn’t winning all three of LSU, at South Carolina, and Texas

Georgia still has Florida, at Ole Piss, and Tennessee

Tennessee still has at Georgia

Texas could be in trouble too with at Vandy, at Arkansas, and at A&M

I like your prognostication. I would say that IF they can beat Georgia, its a lock. I would rather have a lock than leave it in the hands of the committee to evaluate things. I think Tennessee never looks favorable in their eyes and it becomes easy for them to overlook our Vols if they lose to Georgia.

Well if we beat Georgia (and take care of the other teams) we will play in the SECCG and have a real shot at winning the conference. We will be a lock regardless no question.

But assuming they let 3 or 4 SEC teams in then we are good to go, again assuming we don't take loss#3.

Yep. I just hate leaving it in the hands of folks who seem to have disregard for the Vol program. That is how 2-loss teams get into the mix that shouldn't be. Regardless, it is great to be talking about these things as a Tennessee Vol.

As long as Tennessee finishes in the AP top 10 there's no excuse to leave us out. IMO we will finish in the top 10 if our only other loss is to (probably) the #1 or #2 team in the country on the road.

If they disrespect that then someone is getting paid on the side!

The National Media does this by design. They tell us in August thru mid September that Texas, USC, Notre Dame, Bama, UGA, Oregon and Ohio State are ALL WORLD BEATERS! Then they drop a game and the narrative shifts to “if they can fix X, they’re contenders” then by end of October, when these teams start to lose, the narrative goes 1 of 2 ways:

A team like Texas is shown to be a fraud and the Nat Media spins some crap like Bama getting in with 2 losses to take the stink off Texas. They’ll talk about Bama getting in with 2 losses, but leave Tn out with 1. It’s not logical and all done in the interest of clicks and money.

But rest assured, the team that does win it all, the Nat Media will spin stories that the winning team was the favorite since mid August and then they’ll cozy up to said team as if to say, “we told yall so”

Who you got this week Missouri vs Bama? I actually think Bama since it’s in Tuscaloosa.
Missouri wins. The team that takes the field that day, will be a dishearten Bama squad. The fan base will be fairly half-hearted, and this is especially true when Mizzy takes a 21 - 0 half-time lead. This is Bama:

If they collapse that bad that quick then their coach isn’t going to make it there long.

Given we won the head to head, I can’t imagine Bama gets in over us. Also A&M still has LSU, Texas, and SC. I think they go 1-2 in those
2022 we beat Bama head to head and they still ended up ranked higher than us at the end of the year
