CCM contacts SEC officials...

What hasn't been publicized are the reports to Boudreaux from other coaches (Calipari, Stallings) that UT plays too rough and is allowed to mug players. That's where these calls started coming from. Cuonzo has tried to just play along, but enough is enough.

Martin lit into the refs in the first part of the game yesterday about a no-call on Stokes. Earned a verbal warning from the officials. Good to see.

Great call bullfrog. The exact opposite happened today. You've shown yet again that you're clueless about hoops.

Hey OBie,

One game? @ home? Why don't you get outside the city limits a few times before you declare victory? Wish nothing but the best for the Vols (RPI); maybe Martin has discovered a new way to influence the ref's. Maybe not; zebras rarely change their stripes.

Stokes hasn't learned to play with his body yet; maybe he will eventually. iirc He's a pretty smart kid and should figure out WHY they're calling the fouls. His season results to-date are 70% on Stokes, 20% on coaching, and 10% on fans' expectations of a kid.

This board is obsessed with "stars", which are just an indicator of HS results and college "potential". Stokes has potential.

I'm not going to disagree that Stokes could play a little smarter, but you can't deny the fact that he's having fouls called on him just because smaller guys bump off him in dramatic fashions.

Going to the SEC and formally complaining is a bad move for Martin and Vol BB. Now, UTK is a SEC-wide headline for the wrong reason.

About 90% chance CCM gets rung-up at least once today against 'Bama; it won't take much. And, while it may send the desired msg, the ref's aren't gonna forget his SEC official complaints for the rest of the season.

Would have been much easier to just get in their face, scream and holler, and get T'ed up. If that's not his style, that's on Martin. He IS a basketball coach; it's in the job description.

I was directly pointing out that you thought Martin would get rung up on Sat in the Bama game at least once and like you thought he was going to get thrown out of the game. Really? LOL. Hell, he's never even received a T and you thought he would get two T's and thrown out all in one game?

Then you said Martin and UT were nothing but a headline now. Martin did what every other coach does when he thinks he is getting unfair calls in a game. He goes to the SEC office. He was following protocol. The media decided to put it out there. Again, maybe you haven't watched much basketball. Coaches do it all the time. To act like Martin is the first and now he is some marked man is a joke and just shows your ignorance.

“@BFQuinn: Jarnell Stokes' 5 games since Cuonzo Martin complained to SEC office re. refs: Five double-doubles, 33.0 mpg, called for 10 fouls – total.”

I'd say the 19 points and 11 rebounds Jarnell put up last time against them was all the material he needed...Vandy is very weak inside, he should get his 6th straight double double.

Well, I'll be in that ****hole of an arena as usual. We shall see. Chance of ticky tack fouls on Vols greatly increases.

I guarantee that Stokes won't get to play like usual. Vandy is bad this year, but they're not nearly as bad at home. They had Ole Miss, Ky and Bama on the ropes and couldn't finish. They blew out Ark on Sat.

If Golden, Stokes and McRae play well I like our chances. Our post defense still sucks. We allow way too much penetration and baskets in the paint. Stokes can't get in foul trouble. I'd put Richardson on Johnson and make someone else beat me.

It sure does seem that the other team is ALWAYS in the bonus at or around the 10 to 8 minute mark! Ive always thought the refs hated the Vols. Too many ticky-tack weak calls.

well, they will run the pick and roll up top @ 90% of the time. If we can't stop it or don't have the personnel to switch, they will wear it out again. I think you have to shade the ballhandler to his weaker finishing hand and force him to beat you on half of the court.

I'd give more credit to Jarnell playing like a big man rather than the refs calling him different. But there is no denying a coincidence.

Total agreement. Think the letter was a little quid pro quo from Martin, "I did something for you; you do something for the team." Stokes is playing smarter D and is a lot more active on offense. Still getting swarmed but fighting through it to score and rebound.

Some if not most of the calls were ticky tack fouls but there were definitely some because he took plays off on defense and got lazy and got caught. All about adjustments. I think the SEC went and looked at film and adjusted just like Stokes did.

Refs are absolutely calling him different. You'd have to be dumber than a bullfrog in dixie to think otherwise.

You still think Martin made a mistake by contacting the SEC office? Heh.

When has Counzo got teed up? He needs to stand up for his players during the game. Nice guys finish last in sports.

how many coaches get teed up? i have watched a lot of basketball and i haven't seen much of any t's for sec coaches. i have seen some bench warnings, but that's pretty much it. i don't know how that's a negative against counzo.. you can bet he is in the ear of the refs.

I'm happy that we're getting better calls, but it's ridiculous that this made a difference at all. By adhering to our requests, they are essentially admitting that their officiating is shotty.

But "TV" Teddy Valentine has such sweet moves as he draws attention to himself. He should be on dancing with the stars.
