That is almost loser mentality. Would you rather make the sweet 16 and get pounded or win the NIT?I don’t know. From a sales perspective to new recruits, which is easier to sell - having your a$$ handed to you in the first round of the playoffs - or beating a #19 ranked team by 20 points in the Citrus Bowl? I think I’d go with the latter until more pieces are in place. You can still say you’re on the upward trend with the 2nd scenario. With the first, competitors could say that UT peaked and is now downward trending. Heck, some of the fanbase is already saying that.
"I believe there is someone, somewhere, who decides who will win and lose"It will be interesting to see how this plays out. One and done in the CFP is a real kick in the head. I believe there is someone, somewhere, who decides who will win and lose based on odds, home field, money, and whatever they can influence. Injuries, weather, and other things bookies miss are possible but, again, being out of it just blows. If Georgia takes it all...good for them. If Ohio State takes it all, good for them. Either of those scenarios helps us. If Penn State, Ohio State, Texas, or Oregon win it, they will gain what we lost. We are a lot better team with CJH so I am sticking with him and hoping we make it past the first CFP game next year. Go Coach Barnes, Coach Vitello, Coach Caldwell, and the rest of our coaches, teams, staff, University.
See the forest not the trees and then take some time and go back through all the playoff games, not just this year. OSU, Georgia, Bama, Clemson, Oregon, have all been pounded in a playoff setting and it didn't send them backwards.I don’t know. If you really think that, then go be a Georgia fan or something. That is total loser mentality. Almost every team left in the playoffs has been beaten soundly in the playoffs.I think we hit our peak this year.
If we ever make another playoff appearance, I would expect another sound "whooping"
You have an amazing outlook! I love it.Making the CFP is always the goal. Doesn’t mean the season is disappointing if you don’t but making it does mean you had a really good season aka a fun season for us fans. I’d rather go 10-2 or better with wins over the likes of Bama, Florida, and other SEC teams than a 9-3/8-4 season where we lose all the big games we play in. I’m different though in that I enjoy the journey of a season and the path to the playoff more than the one game (or however many we win). Losing a playoff game doesn’t diminish the enjoyment of watching the boys play the 12 games prior.
I think I know most people's answer. We would make it to the CFB. However, lots of volnation are saying this set us back and will adversely impact our recruiting, play, etc.
I’m not sure why everybody is down. We beat one ranked team the entire season and that was a three loss Bama having the worst year they have had in decades. We didn’t do anything that would remotely suggest that the result would’ve been different. We weren’t a playoff caliber team this year, but we are building something really remarkable. The home-field advantage that gave us wins this year as unique and there is a culture of championships at Tennessee. Heupel is plenty driven by himself, but his peers are all looking to win it all. Good enough is not tolerated at Tennessee. We’re going to be fine. Just need a new OL, some receivers, and the ability to hit wide open receivers. They wanna kick you while you’re down. We do it too. F everybody else but the damn vols we’ll be back next year GBO
My Bama friends would have loved to see the team that beat Georgia have a chance, but were glad they didn’t have to watch the team that lost to Vandy get embarrassed. Bama and Ole Miss had big wins and horrible losses. We had bad losses but not big wins. Bama was the only ranked win we had. Tenn, SC, Ole Miss, and Bama all had low floors. Their ceilings were probably higher than ours,After watching Tennessee's debacle I imagine Bama, Omiss, and SC fans feel pretty good... Basically Tennessee lost out on a nice Bowl game in Florida, and gained nothing by going to Osu. except a huge black eye...
We went through the sec with 10 wins. Idc what you ppl say that’s impressive. Every one of those teams bama, beat Georgia, Florida got ole miss, vandy got bama, OU got bama,Kentucky got ole miss. Every Saturday in the sec you can get got. A good team finds a way to win and we did that 10 times in the sec! We were a playoff caliber team, playing the most talented team in the country at their home field after that Michigan loss was a tough position and our team didn’t respond well, it happens with a freshman qb, and the first attempt at the playoff. If we play any team at home in that playoff we can win . Huep is building something here , and fans just want it now. Sometimes you have to step back n realize where this team was 4 years ago. Now we’re playoff contenders year in and out.! Huep will learn from this , he’s a winner.I’m not sure why everybody is down. Sorry to disappoint you but I don't follow crowds, I just know stupid when I read it. Saying IF we ever make the playoffs again we will get beat badly again is loser mentality.I've been a fan for 50 yrs of UT football. Sorry I can't be a lemming like you. "You can't handle the truth!"
I bet the players care. Bet the coaches appreciate warm weather, extended practice schedule, and lack of access to their current team from pilfering standpoint.This. No one gives 2 flips if you win a bowl game 5 minutes after it's over.
I had a feeling they wasn't going to play or not last the moment I saw Sampson limping at the end of the Vandy game and you could tell it was a Hamstring and then Squirrel injured his other arm and Thornton didn't finish. It makes it even harder to play in cold weather with those injuries.Nah, if anything we’re gonna come back pissed. When you’re missing Sampson, Thornton and Squirrel plus a few other starters it tends to take a toll on you. When I was at the game and I seen who all wasn’t playing, I knew it wouldn’t be good.
I think they already are aren’t they? One quarterfinal is on New Years Eve and all 3 games on New Years Day are quarterfinal games.1st...it won't be long and the NY6 will be part of the CFP.
2nd...is anyone even remotely interested in watching any of the NY6 games...heck, can anyone even name any of the match ups without looking them up?
