You think anyone cares about getting blown out in the first round of the playoffs? A win is always better than a loss.
Well obviously a playoff win is better but you don’t get that chance unless you qualify. Making the playoffs is better than any meaningless bowl game where you don’t know which team is interested or if half the players opt out. Again, there are 122 teams that wish they had had the chance.

1st...it won't be long and the NY6 will be part of the CFP.

2nd...is anyone even remotely interested in watching any of the NY6 games...heck, can anyone even name any of the match ups without looking them up?
Yes, Vandy v GTech. I’m anxious to see GT hang 50 on them bc all they’d done since our loss to OSU is run that mouth about having to carry the State for the sake of the SEC bc we dropped it.

I bet the players care. Bet the coaches appreciate warm weather, extended practice schedule, and lack of access to their current team from pilfering standpoint.

School appreciates the ticket sales, and revenue from bowl participation.
The coaches might be the only ones that like it from an extra practices standpoint. After a long season, I doubt the players care one way or the other. As far as revenue goes, most teams lose money going to a bowl. And ticket sales…..well all you have to do is look at the empty seats in the vast majority of the bowl games.

Sounds like much of your opinion, is just that.

"I believe there is someone, somewhere, who decides who will win and lose"

Are you really saying the games are rigged?
No. Just saying mistakes in officiating, coaching, playing result in wins or losses. Some of them are more preventable than others and some of them that are not result of the team's play need improvement.

You are using conjecture now.

I don’t think most folks give a flip 5 minutes before they start. Most of them are products of ESPN trying to fill air time between Thanksgiving and New Years Day.
I have had some of the most enjoyable and memorable times in my life at bowl games over the years. Have not been to a bowl in a couple years so maybe something has changed. 1999 Fiesta Bowl was amazing. Ditto the beatdown of favored Miami in 1986 Sugar Bowl NOLA. We have been in 56 bowl games with a record of 31-25. Citrus Bowl beat Ohio State 1996. 1998 Orange Bowl. 45-17 Beat down of Michigan 45-17 January 2002. This year, we had a very good season beating Bama and Florida. Losses to UGA and Arkansas were ugly. Now, after an early out in a cold non bowl playoff loss to Ohio State, we got nothing but basketball and cheering for someone else. If we had won and won and competed for a Natty I would say great and enjoyed the Citrus Bowl. Thankful I do not like losing and appreciate the improvements in Tennessee sports.

I agree with a number of your points. But when it comes down to a choice of making the playoffs or missing them to play in a random bowl game just to get a few extra practices, I know what I’m taking. I don’t understand how that’s even a discussion.

We shouldn't have to choose between playoffs and bowl games. We should want playoffs and bowl games to be played at neutral sites and somewhere fans want to travel to. Miami, New Orleans, Nashville building a new indoor stadium, Atlanta, LA, and many more domes or nice warm locations with great things to do and neutral sites.

YES...expand CFP to 16 with 1st round being all neutral sites with current bowl tie in sponsorships.

Agreed. I think all playoff games should be played at neutral sites. That would be the fairest way if you can get agreement on it. Don’t think you are going to get the Big 10 and western schools to ever agree on all south locations though.

Don’t care about bowl games that aren’t tied to the playoffs. I’d never spend money going to a bowl where I’m not sure if half the players are opting out or transferring before it happens. It’s just not like the bowl games from the old days mentioned in the other post. Those were interesting. I’d rather watch paint dry than watch 90% of the ones now.

Watching Vandy vs Ga Tech...this is why I love Bowl games. The big money games are fine but, I still enjoy the underdogs, spirit, pride, and upsets. The Ohio State vs UT game was boring as heck...blow out. Ditto UGA whooping UT.

That would be a disaster. The only way it will work is having the 1st or even the 1st & 2nd rounds on campus.

You're asking too much of the fanbases to travel that much. It's not logistically possible for 99.9% of the population to travel to 4 locations. Yes, if a team like UT won a road playoff game, they would have to win 4 games away from home. That's a lot to ask of any traveling fanbase.

Good point...had not thought of the implication of travelling fan bases. I was only thinking of thr corporate machine of TV ratings and interest in bowl games.

Agree on Vandy-GA Tech. Still don’t care anything about it but at least both teams look like they want to be there. And they aren’t missing 25 players like Oklahoma was so it’s a good match.

I enjoyed the !986 Sugar Bowl as much as most regular season game I have seen and I have seen at least 95% of all Tennessee football games since 1945. The 1996 Citrus bowl was pretty good too. Oh, I forgot, the 1998 national Championship was bad either.

Have you enjoyed any since the transfer portal and the opt out rule came into effect? I agree that bowls were fun when it was a true reward for a good season. But not since 6-6 teams get to go and a third of the team has transferred or opted out. As noted earlier, I’d rather watch paint dry as watch 90% of the current situation. But that’s just me.

I have not and probably will not unless I have a grand son playing.

99.9%? We did not make one bowl game and got shafted to play at OSU. THE WORLD OF SEC/NCAA/ESPN IS laughing at Tennessee. We were punked.
