CFN Tennessee at Oregon

What Will Happen: The future at Tennessee is bright. The present, though, is going to bring the occasional reality check. The Volunteers aren’t ready to compete with the likes of Oregon, though that’s the goal that Jones and his staff are feverishly working toward. Not only are the Ducks machine-like on offense, but the D is carrying its weight as well. The outcome on Saturday could be decided before halftime.

Prediction: Oregon 52 … Tennessee 20

Shock the world, Butch.

So, they think Oregon will do to us what we did to Western Kentucky.

We shall see about that.

I sure wish we had Maggitt at LB. We could use his speed. I wonder if the coaching staff will consider red-shirting him? I hate to lose a year of eligibility if he can't get on the field this year.

:bash:The Ducks will score 50 to 60, but i dont know if we can score 20, let them gets us now, because when we come in about 2015 we will put the hammer down on these so called elite, just waiting on 2015, thats when we pull the hammer out.

If he is not coming back in the next week or so redshirt him for next year.:ermm:

A few things I hope we're working on in practice:

-Actually going 7 plays in a row with the same personnel and ~18s b/w plays. Just turning up a notch our guys conditioning from what I hear was a pretty intense training camps and S&C offseason to as best as we can do before Oregon. This will also pay dividends against the SEC.
-If they want to replicated 4.4 speed at QB, why not have Pig play a little "running QB?" Dunno, just an idea. We should have someone on the team that runs a 4.4.
-All the assignments, staying home, gap control, tackling, technique, details, and mental conditioning he has been preaching in press conferences.

Playing uptempo is going to work against UT come Saturday.

I meant with our D. Having them on the field for that many plays with no subs to condition for their uptempo offense.

But, I agree with you regarding our O. As much as I would like to play fast and try to tire their D in a way that not many teams have the cajones to try to do, handing it back to their offense even if we score a TD after something like 1:45 will not be smart. Double-edged sword. Hope they have some plan of attack to mitigate that.

I think it could possibly be something like 20-7 at the half...which would mean we contained them pretty good

But something like 55-17 to end the game...they will run away with it about mid third quarter if not sooner

CBJ said they are trying to run 8 plays in a row without subs.

I don't know about that. In no way predicting a win but outside of speed on offense I don't see that big of a miss match. I think we play them harder and smarter then many think we will. I'm thinking no more than a 10 point spread. Hopefully to our advantage.

The game will definitely be a good mental test. How do they handle adversity? Hopefully we don't come away from the game with another picture of our center trying to tie a D-lineman's shoelaces together.

I've wondered the same thing, but based on what coach Jones has said, I think they won't do that as they really need him this year. If he's still a 50-50 this week, I'd set him this game, and with the open date, it would give him another 2 weeks before FL. I want to beat Oregon as badly as any one, but if we could only win one of the two against them and FL, I'm 100% wanting beat FL much more.
