What a crock - that was textbook crown of the helmet to opponents helmet.
Here's the rule. Looks like it could only be the subjective definition of forceably in #2

  • Initiating contact with the crown of the helmet

  • Forcibly hitting a defenseless opponent in the head or neck with the helmet, forearm, hand, fist, elbow, or shoulder

  • Launching into an opponent with a hit to the head or neck

Of course TX gets the benefit of the doubt.

That was CLEAR targeting, as the rules are currently written. Defenseless player, lowering and leading with helmet.

What garbage.
Only thing I can figure is the receiver loses protection once the ball is tipped maybe?

Horrible call. NCAA wanting Texas to win this game. It was complete targeting. Why have the rule of you’re not going to call it when it’s real targeting. If Arizona State made the same play against Texas, it would have been targeting. NCAA is like watching wrestling. That was a complete junk call. Horrible.

Crap!! At least it was competitive for a change. I'm pulling for Oregon from here on out.

You didn't ask me - but he didn't lower his head and lead with the crown - the hit was due to both of them coming together so IMO just as much the offensive player as the defensive player - so good no call.
Thanks. I was under the impression that intent did not matter.

Good thing targeting did not exist when I played HS. Our first string would all be ejected in the first quarter.
