CFP Scenarios (merged)

Dropping the #1 team more than 3 spots, after losing on the road to the #3 team, would be a little harsh. LOL.

I think Tennessee is #4.

#1 Georgia
#2 Ohio State
#3 Michigan
#4 Tennessee
#5 TCU
#6 Oregon
#7 LSU
#8 Clemson
#9 USC
#10 Ole Miss

* TCU will eventually pass Tennessee, if they win out. Tennessee is not in complete control of their destiny anymore. They need TCU to lose, and possibly Oregon ... although, I doubt anyone wants a Georgia/Oregon rematch.

And no. Tennessee only needs Georgia to go 13-0 and we are in the playoff. This isn’t rocket science. SEc is getting 2 teams in the playoff regardless.

I believe we will be in the playoff at 11-1. That being said, we looked bad today. Don’t be surprised if we aren’t in the top 5 on Monday, but there will be enough carnage in the next month that we should be OK once the dust settles.

Keep a close eye on Pac12 as well. Oregon is getting a lot of love right now and only have a single loss. We really need Georgia to win out and TCU to start losing to feel safe.
Yes, and also lost by 45 to Georgia as well. I don't see a path to the playoff for them unless TCU also loses one. If TCU loses, we would probably be third and the Pac12 champ (Oregon or USC) would be 4th.

I would bet any amount of money that a 11-2 LSU SEC Champion would make the playoff. This isn’t rocket science. Are you drunk? Not sure why you think an 11-2 team with 3 top ten wins in final 7 games who debuted in rankings at number 10 wouldn’t make the playoff. O

Let’s bet then. Where’s the precedence for your theory when the 2 loss team lost to a 1 loss team?

LSU doesn’t have a cakewalk the next few weeks. Glad they won tonight but on the road at ARK and on the road at A&M.
Agree, LSU's row is tough to hoe; but they have only one SEC loss and hold the tie breaker over AL and Ole Miss. So, they could actually still lose another conference game and still go to Atlanta.

kick ass the next 3 weeks and see what happens, i see us taking a tumble after the blowout though, maybe 5 or 6, making the score look like it wasnt a total beatdown (it was) could help in the long run

UT is either 4 or 5 when the new poll is released. UT just has to win out and will be playoff bound.
I still stand by my list
MI won, but it was unranked Rutgers....nobody.
We lost to GA ranked at 3 and it wasn't a blow out or high scoring tame.

UGA
OH
TN
MI

If LSU beats UGA, then we don’t make it to the playoff.
I don’t know if that’s necessarily true. The committee doesn’t value conference championships that much. They put ohio state in the playoff over penn state the year penn state beat them and won the big 10, all because penn state had 2 losses.
We have the advantage of one of LSU’s 2 losses being to us by 30, in their own stadium

I feel better about us getting in after our loss and other games tonight, but I think the ‘AA is trying very hard to stay together and likely won’t allow 2 SEC teams into the CFP. I could see some nonsense with Tennessee being 3 in the rank and falling out after the Conference championship games. They would love 2 B1G teams in against UGA and TCU to keep people coming back.

I can see a 1 loss USC getting in also after winning the PAC

Yes they would. In their final 7 games, they’d have 3 top ten wins and the best conference’s championship. You’re a clown if you think the SEC champ wouldn’t be in the playoff.
Its a moot point cause there aint no way LSU beats GA.

True.

But some posters were saying a 2 loss LSU team that beats GA and wins the SEC would get into the playoff over us.

1. I don’t agree because we beat them head to head. Easily.
2. A 3 loss LSU team isn’t making the playoffs even if they curbstomp GA.

I would be surprised if the #1 team in the country fell out of the top 5, after losing by 14 points on the road to the #3 team. That doesn't happen ... especially considering that another top 5 team (Clemson) also lost. I could see us being 5th, if TCU passes us, but not 6th.

Why would Tennessee drop below TCU. Bama was ahead of TCU and Tennessee beat Bama. Would make absolutely no sense

They’ve beaten multiple ranked teams and are undefeated. I’m unconvinced they’ll stay that way, but I was strictly speaking about the playoff rankings this week.

At this point we need LSU to win out until Atlanta. Need them as high ranked as possible, imo.
