Chaney to Pitt

I've got a friend in Ark AD office. Cheney, the WR coach, and another offensive coach were told they were not getting fired and were not asked to resign; however, they were told they were not getting extensions and they were free to explore other opportunities. None of this surprises me. Fans over here did not like Cheney and blamed him for the lack of offensive explosion and lack of development of brandon allen. CBB also took public shots at Cheney, calling his play calling cute and finesse a couple of times. CBB's philosophy isnt either of those words.

Pittman received an extension to 500k per year, which increases to 525 or 550...can't remember specifically. In short, Pittman is not going anywhere.

Arkansas desperately tried to keep Randy Shannon. He wanted to move back to Florida, which pissed CBB off to no end bc he saw it as disloyal in that it was perceived as a complete lateral move (same title, same money, etc.). CBB apparently put SEC non-competes in all of the extensions last week as a result.

I think that this is an interesting move. Pat Narduzzi was a highly sought after HC candidate with an excellent reputation for coaching defense. Clearly, watching Arkansas over the past two seasons, that was not a true Jim Chaney offense. To me, Pitt has upgraded with its defense and offense and I am interested to see how this works in the ACC.

This will be the second consecutive OC Bielema has effectively run off or not retained due to his over bearing nature to dictate the offense. Maybe AR fans should not care about losing Chaney but they should care about having a HC that is starting to build an unpleasant reputation for himself. What proven OC would want to work under him?

I thought Randy Shannon was a LB coach. They will probably loose a couple more assistants.

I do wish Chaney the best. He stuck with us through some major crap and gave us some of our best offenses statistically in a long time.

He!!, we should've hired him as our HC over Dooley. Couldn't have been any worse of an outcome.

Kind of a kick to the nuts of the Chaney love letter writers on here.

That's great news. He has been one of the best OC's in the SEC and if he can't be at UT (where he would be a clear upgrade over current OC) then it's better he is at least not going against us.

Chaney preferred to throw the ball alot more than Bret beliema. Idk why he ever went there in the first place honestly. Two completely different styles

Hopefully they'll be struggling for an offensive identity when they come to Knoxville.

They will always be a ground and pound offense as long as Bielema (sp) is there and have a huge and physical OLine. If they had had a good QB they probably only lose to AU this past season. They play really good Defense too. Wouldn't be my choice of SEC West teams to play next yr. It's unreal how many close losses they had this yr. Glad we catch them at home next season but I don't look forward to playing them next yr. I'm not sure who they lose as far as players but if they return a lot it wouldn't surprise me to see them competing for the west next season along with AU and Ala. But Ala is losing the majority of their passing game and will have a QB, whoever it ends up being with very little experience. AU will be better off at QB, especially in the pass game with Johnson at QB, dude is a beast. And if Muschump gets their D right, which has a lot of highly ranked players I see them winning the West. But Arky will be a team you don't want to play. But if we get OLine and QB improvement we will be another team you won't wanna play. Atleast this yr Arky was a little further along than we were. Was amazing how one team could lose all the close games Ark did. Even the one game they didn't have a chance to win at the end they played AU toe to toe till the 4th but that was also the first game of the season. If they had played later in the yr they beat AU. Our sched next yr could be very tough or easier overall. Hard to say with Ala, GA and SCar breaking in new QB's, who knows what UF will do or who they start at QB. Oklahoma looked very mediocre and we get them at home. Mizzou loses key guys on Def.. Next yr should be even more wide open than this yr and a lot of teams outside of TN replacing many losses at key positions.

Arkansas just lost Jim Chaney who left to take same job at Pittsburgh Panthers. So when Arky comes to Knoxville they will be without Randy Shannon and Jim Chaney. I am glad Chaney left Arkansas. Good luck to him.

Losing Chaney won't hurt Arky at all. That's Bielema's offense and always will be as long as he is HC.

That's good for TENNESSEE when they play Arkansas next year!

Will have little to no effect on their offense. They will always be a physical run team with huge Olinemen, really good RB's and sets up a lot of playaction in the pass game. If Allen can become a better passer his SR yr they will be tough to deal with especially with how well they played Defense last yr. One of the only teams that shut down Ala's Offense and completely shut down Amari Cooper. Went back and checked he had 2 catches for 22 yards. He had more yards on us after the first play of the game. I would much rather play A'M, LSU or Miss St next yr.

Bielema's a strict alpha leader with no patience with those who won't go along with his philosophy, which is an old fashioned power game...offense and defense. According to my hog-lovin' friends in Arky, most of the fan base there really love the guy, but it appears his bully pulpit approach tends to run off a lot of assistants. Chaney's a solid OC who's been demonstrating an appreciably intuitive approach to running an offense, which is based a lot on speed and diversion. The fit's not here, and I'd say their current recruiting class doesn't make him (Chaney) or Shannon very happy. Pitt, on the other hand, employs a wide-open offensive scheme. Better fit with the Panthers and more of an opportunity for Chaney to coach his own game. As for the piggies coming to Knoxville next season: With UT's serious herd of lean beef...more solid than most all D-lines (even for SEC standards), and with an ability to man cover in the secondary, freeing LBs to run protect, Bielema's less diverse setup will have trouble muscling the Vols by that time of year. I think this will be a W for the Big Orange.

I hope you're right about us beating them in Knoxville next season. My biggest concern is the huge size advantage their OLine will have over our smallish SEC DLine. We do get bigger with this '15 class and will hinge a lot on how fast Khalil, Tuttle, Picou, Phillips, Butcher and the other front 4 guys we have coming develop and become SEC ready. That is not an easy offense to defend because one you don't see it much anymore and a lot of defenses give up some overall size to add quickness to the defense because of all of the spread offenses nowadays. It's hard to build a defense that can consistently stop a spread offense and also be able to stop big, physical run games like Arky runs and to an extent what Ala and LSU runs. But even Ala has incorporated more spread as has LSU. But Ark is built like an oversized big 10 team but still has speed at RB and WR but has a SEC type defense. Definitely a hard team to prepare for, especially if you only have a week. Could end up being one of our tougher games next yr.
