Chaney to Pitt

I hope you're right about us beating them in Knoxville next season. My biggest concern is the huge size advantage their OLine will have over our smallish SEC DLine. We do get bigger with this '15 class and will hinge a lot on how fast Khalil, Tuttle, Picou, Phillips, Butcher and the other front 4 guys we have coming develop and become SEC ready. That is not an easy offense to defend because one you don't see it much anymore and a lot of defenses give up some overall size to add quickness to the defense because of all of the spread offenses nowadays. It's hard to build a defense that can consistently stop a spread offense and also be able to stop big, physical run games like Arky runs and to an extent what Ala and LSU runs. But even Ala has incorporated more spread as has LSU. But Ark is built like an oversized big 10 team but still has speed at RB and WR but has a SEC type defense. Definitely a hard team to prepare for, especially if you only have a week. Could end up being one of our tougher games next yr.

The SEC will be a run heavy league this year, average QBs. Dobbs has the potential to develop into a dominant QB.

I hope you're right about Dobbs but so far he hasn't shown he can be a dominant QB. It will be a RB league next yr with all of the lack of experience returning at QB but Ala, GA, AU, UF all have elite 4*-5* QB's and more coming in. Just a matter of how quick they develop. Fortunately we are one of the few SEC teams with a QB returning that has played SEC games. Hopefully Dobbs progresses and takes the next step to becoming a good QB for us. But so far that is very much up in the air. Good thing is this class and the '16 class we have help on the way at QB if he doesn't. But GA has done well recently starting FR QB's and them breaking QB records during their Careers with David Green and then Aaron Murray. So as much as I would love to say some teams will be down by breaking in new, young and inexperienced QB's but recent history disputes those thoughts. It's the new age of college football we are in. Most HS's run similar offenses as College teams and they are just so much more developed and more ready to play. Just take the improvement Kyle Allen made in just a few games. The kid at Miami, Hackenburg at Penn St played well his FR YR and played better this yr after gaining that experience. Watson at Clemson played well until he got hurt. Cordale Jones isn't a FR but.what he has done in his first two starts at QB. Ok St's FR QB played great. There are many others and will be more making their first starts next season. Hopefully we won't have to rely on a TR FR to win us games this yr but having not had a QB make it the whole yr since Crompton its highly probable one has to start or at the very least is backing up Dobbs and getting some snaps. Don't see any chance we bring in three QB's this class with the intent to redshirt all three. Would think one will be expected to atleast push to back up Josh. Not sure they have much confidence in Peterman if Dobbs does go down or just doesn't play well. Will be a fun position battle to watch this spring then adding Jones in later this summer. We are setting ourselves up well at QB this class and next class.

I like the move for him. Ole JC. Is a down to earth dude. That Gatorade bath he got in Dooleys last season showed how the players appreciated him.

Not questioning your philosophy but I think our undersized Dline did ok against Iowa. Same offensive philosophy IMO

Iowa doesn't have any speed and nowhere close to the size that Ark has. I don't like Bielema but he is doing a goob job of mixing what the big 1010 does well but improving on that by going bigger and faster, which is what the SEC does well. And lets face it we didn't exactly stop Iowa's run game. They got a lot of the passing yards and points late but when Iowa did run they were successful doing it. Us getting up big early and them rotating QB's every position didn't help their cause. I really didn't think Bielema could do much in the SEC, especially the West but he has surprised me. He is doing something similar to what Urban is doing at Ohio St. Not talking results or anything but Urban is making Ohio St basically an SEC team playing in the Big 10. He has built Ohio St with SEC speed and mixed with Big 10 size. They beat Ala at their own game..speed and killing you with with big plays in the run and pass game. Bielema is keeping SEC Speed and mixing in the Size and schemes that worked for him at Wisc. Don't like either Coach but gotta hand it to both of them, really smart coaching decisions by them both on building their teams.

Yeah. This is clearly subjective at such a time of year, but here's justification for the pre-mentioned caveat (and where we certainly agree). The UT UA game will be the fifth of the season, with OU and FU providing valuable reps for Tuttle @ 312 and McKenzie @ 341 vs. the piggies' roster of 8 OGs ranging from 291 to 330. Their pair of DTs of merit appear to be Jr. Skipper @ 316 and Sr. Beck @ 305. They'll have the dubious privilege of hanging with a rotation of Barnett/Maggitt, Butcher/Phillips, Taylor/Ford and friends. UT's depth there will show up with a rush. JRM, Kindrick, JR. and DB are uber quick and should prevent sweeps and quick outs so, all in all, I just don't see an overwhelming advantage for Arky. As for the speed aspect, asides from bama, Clemson and USCw, who's got this much speed from OLBs and DEs? BTW Pittman just got a $225,000 raise, so there's not going to be anything different coming out of the piggies. The difference makers may well end up being Mac and Shy...and in those two I'll lay the odds.

Really hope you're right. But teams with good DLines still struggled containing their run game for a full game. Texas, LSU and OleMiss have better DLines than us right now and they couldn't stop Arky. And speed on D will help us more against spread type offenses and teams that rely on speed from their WR's, RB's and even QB. DT is the hardest position on D for a FR to come in and play and to play well. But if Khalil, Tuttle and even Picou can make big impacts, help Barnett and add size to the Dline that helps immensely. But if they struggle like most most FR DT and have to rely on O'Brien and Williams then I don't like their chances holding up a full game against an Oline that is bigger than a lot of NFL teams. Khalil, Tuttle, Phillips and Martin at Corner being ready to play and adding them to what we have coming back will help us to go from being a potential good defense to an elite defense. Just think we will still be a yr away from that. Then the other issue is dealing with a nasty and stout Arky Defense. I remember this time last yr some were counting OleMiss as a for sure win just like with Ark now. Will definitely be one of our top 3 toughest games I believe.

I'll second (or third) the notion that I never understood the move in the first place, other than jumping at the first opening. His offense barely uses the RB as a position let alone runs. I do find it funny seeing these whispers of BB being a dick to his assistants, because that was supposedly why he bolted from Wisconsin, was the fact that Coach Alvarez would not pony up the money BB wanted for them.

You obviously have a lot more energy than I do so I won't go into it but the big OLINEMAN that Iowa put on the field.... first round draft pick ...was by far better than anything Arkansas put on the field I assure you. And we did okay by Barnetts own admission He was the best he played against all year.... Speed? Really???

Alabama and Georgia shut down our run game pretty good. In fact I would even say that our passing game wasn't quite as bad as perceived while our running game wasn't quite as good as perceived. Both were inconsistent at times.

We do get 4/5 on the OL back and replace the one we lost with an army all-American so we should have a very solid OL next year

That's great news. He has been one of the best OC's in the SEC and if he can't be at UT (where he would be a clear upgrade over current OC) then it's better he is at least not going against us.

I never thought I'd say this, but I'd much rather have Chaney than The Accountant.

This is a good move for Chaney. I'm not a big fan of his style (I prefer a more balanced attack) but there's no question he can coach offense and makes QBs better. His offense should be better suited for the ACC.

Now if we could lure Pittman back.
