Changed my stance on something

I don't admit JACK DOODOO about bama except they got to skip and prance through the last few seasons and STILL couldn't get it done.

Did I get redirected to espn's site? Could've swore it was an Orange site. ... I'll try again later when espn guys get done jerking over bama posters.

As I said before, I hate bama. Is it to the point of disregarding their recent accomplishments? Hell no!
Can you honestly say that you would not wish the same for UT?

We will earn it. The hard way and we will able to hold our heads high with pride when it's all done and say... You cannot deny us. You threw the toughest season you could as us for decades... Trying to hold us back. Sabotaging our every move and you did not stop us. Because we worked harder for it. We EARNED IT. We are strong. You were just lucky for a few years bama. And guess what. When you look back at it. All they did was take your money and run. Made you look foolish and then dropped you like a two dollar whore. Bama will never last in a playoff system. They cannot keep it up.

This could be true, but at the present it's difficult to argue we will fare any better.

Maybe it's bulletin board material for them, but I love referring to them as the red team.

Lately I've been more inclined to look at a recruit's offer list to determine their value a little more than the star ranking..................until I read this stat:

Since Rivals started ranking classes in 2002, 12 years ago, the #1 ranked class according Rival's own ranking system has played for the national championship within 3 years of their class ranking 9 times.

You may say, well duh. But it just goes to show how crucial it is to sign highly rated classes. Top 15 classes just won't cut it in the SEC. Butch will need to sign a class like this years every year if we're going to get where we all want to be.

Below is a history of Rivals rankings and the BCS championship.

Rivals Rank BCS Champ
Texas 2002 2003 LSU beat Oklahoma
LSU 2003 2004 USC beat Oklahoma
USC 2004 2005 Texas beat USC
USC 2005 2006 Florida beat Ohio St.
USC 2006 2007 LSU beat Ohio St.
Florida 2007 2008 Florida beat Oklahoma
Alabama 2008 2009 Alabama beat Texas
Alabama 2009 2010 Auburn beat Oregon
USC 2010 2011 Alabama beat LSU
Alabama 2011 2012 Alabama beat Notre Dame
Alabama 2012 2013 Florida State beat Auburn
Alabama 2013
Alabama 2014

There have been 11 games, meaning 22 teams. And it looks like it was 7 times within 3 years. That means 15 times it didn't happen.

Move to bama then jack. bama are losers, been losers, always will be losers. Just because they play 6 games a year and challenged in maybe 4, and have every nut licker with a wad in their pocket willing to splooge on them doesn't make them anything but bama. BUCK FAMA.

Jealousy will burn you out.

Boca - I'm pretty sure 9 of the top 9 on Rivals are top 10 teams. :)

I might even go so far as to say 10 of the top 10 on Rivals are top 10 teams. Might want to edit.

Oops! Thanks for catching that

That's what I get for typing and talking on the phone.

You do realize you sound like a petulant child ? It's one thing to hate Bama it is another to be ignorant to their success. You bash their schedule but last I checked they play in the sec. Oh and last I checked they consistently beat top sec teams. Stop putting fandom above common sense .

After this 2014 class, the Vols now have at least a 4 star player at all 22 positions. CBJ now must continue recruiting these types of classes so we will have depth to compete in the SEC. While next years class will be short on Qty, hopefully it will full of Quality players.

I can identify with your spirit. :hi:

I am with you if we are interpreting "Bama" broadly, as in, the Bama nation -- all of em combined -- and am sick of hearing their B.S.

Butch's biggest challenge in maintaining recruiting classes like the 14 class, will be doing it without the legacy recruits he was fortunate enough to have in this class. It remains to be seen if he can do it without the legacy recruits who needed very little or no persuasion to be Vols.

There are very few people that can tell the difference between a 6.1 and a 6.0 rated player. Yet that rating difference can affect where a team ranks. Just be happy you are getting a really good player(s). It's better to just not get caught up in it since it is all so subjective. Example: Gavin Bryant - Rivals has him as a 5.7 3*. If you watch how he plays and look at his physical stats - it's laughable. Now even some of the recruiting services are waking up that they might have missed it on him. Well, duh. If you know football at all you can tell in less that 5 minutes you would want him roaming inside on D as soon as possible. Think about having a mature Al Wilson with similar size, speed, football smarts, and physicality. No doubt he was rated as a 5.7 because Bama and Barn were not on him early because of concerns about school, which turns out he is handling well now. Barn even started recruiting him late. So how and why did school work status and in-state schools recruiting him factor in to how good of a football player he is and projected to be? It shouldn't, but it did. So because he isn't ranked where he should be, UT lost a lot of points in the total. Now factor stuff like that in on rosters everywhere. It's a decent measure of how well a school did, but it is not the end all be all.

Just know that every few years you need a homerun class like this one followed by good needs filling classes with quality talent for a couple of years before hitting it out of the park again. After that it is all on the coaches to coach 'em up.

aaaahhhh this is a pivotal quandary because Fulmer HAD the talent year after year

Fulmer couldn't develop the elite talent he brought in. They always seemed to leave at the same level of elite that they came in at. Would have gone a lot farther in the 2000s if they became better players during their tenure in orange

I don't think a Top 5 class is a requirement every year but lets look at Florida State (using rivals):

2010: #10 (2 5*, 8 4*)

2011: #2 (similar to UT's 2014... 2 5* but only 13 4* where UT had 16)

2012: #6 (3 5*, 10 4*)

2013: #10 (2 5*, 9 4*)

What Florida State did is build depth in 2011 and then add select highly talented players to subsequent classes.

I would say Jones needs to have a Top 10 class every year but composition is important. And, given our scholly levels this year and out due to our large class we're likely to be building up talent at key positions.

I will say this:

We need a high-end QB in the 2015 class.

The numbers show that the threshold to even play for a national championship game is a four year recruiting average of about 15 or better. To win, you just need to be the team with the higher average. In championship games, 90% of the teams won who had a higher four year recruiting average using rivals numbers. The lone exception was Texas in 2005.

What makes the SEC more difficult is that about half of the teams have a four year recruiting average high enough to be considered above the threshold to play for a title.

If what Alabama has accomplished makes them losers then I want us to be that caliber of losers. I wouldn't mind at all if we won multiple championships, are constantly ranked in the top 5, win at least 10 games and sign number one recruiting classes. I will take being that kind of loser all day long.

This! When half or more of the conference is in the top 15 teams, talent wise, there is no huge discrepancy among the top teams. Given the format of the BCS, it's pretty remarkable the SEC won 7 in a row and won 9 out of the 16 BCS titles. Once SEC teams got to the big game, they took care of business. Making the game was the issue.

Take 2012, for example. If Ohio St. wasn't on probation they would have played ND. What a joke.
