Chant on Saturday?

I do know you, we had a name for guys like you when I was at UT. But I'm sure you probably know that by now.

Enjoy your time at UT and don't worry about some insignificant chat from a football game. Your gonna have plenty to worry about when you grow up.

And what would that be, chief?

A classy non-redneck?

I really hope that my Alma Mater does not award you two idiots degrees. As of now, I still think that mine has a little bit of value and took at least some sense to come by.

Really there Captain. Did the Army teach you to be disrespectful to people? I highly doubt it.

Sorry, got my degree many years ago and even used it during my 15 yrs as a Command Pilot in the USAF. This idiot even used it during the first and second gulf wars. I might have even delivered a few of your brothers to the sand box.

While I agree that using the f-bomb is not the best thing the students could do, I can guarantee, as you well know, if that is the worst thing they do, then we have nothing to worry about.

Remember, you can't have fun if you're being appropriate....:jpshakehead:

Apparently, to be a real student, you have to be a complete dick. I'm sorry, but I'll have a B.A. in May 08, and a Masters in May 09 from UT, and I've gotten through just fine without being a complete *******. In fact, I can't think of a single business out there that wants to hire an idiot that belittles everyone else. The guys at the games being a true fan, while at the same time respecting our opponent and our own team is the one that will be a success, not the one screaming that we "need to f*** up those fu***** fa***ts every 30 seconds.

I could care less about your 15 years in. Our student section showed a complete lack of class with said chant.

Also, great attitude. 'If it isn't the worst thing they could do, then it is alright with me.' Again, pearls of wisdom there!

I for one would like Neyland to remain a family atmosphere. If the students just want to show up hammered, scream obscenities, and leave, then those students should stay home.

Apparently the USAF taught you to be disrespectful. I'm glad you fought for our country, but that doesn't mean you don't sound like a tool.

I think the blow delivered on the field was enough. It is a public forum and there are both kids and "grown-ups" in attendance that are offended by such language.

Cheer. Clap. Stand. Cheer. Even piss off the old couple behind you for blocking their seated view of the game. But, dropping the "F-bomb" is uncalled for.

Thats not the point at all. I commend both of you for being mature enough to realize that there is more to life than having fun at all cost. I can't speak for either of you but I can remember when I was a Freshman and even a Sophomore I acted a little immature and even participated in a few unruly activities during that time.

The older I got the more I realized that some of my behaviour and those around me was quite childish and immature at that time. It sounds like that is where you two are in your lives. Remember unless you were totally different you were one of those young Freshmen not to long ago. Freedom does some strange things to some people.

I didnot hear the Chant from the student section either, but I did hear the Georgis fans while our player was down in the North End Zone. I LOST IT!!!!!! That is absolutley some of the worst Sportmanship in my opinon that you can do to an opposing team, and Iam not cool with it no matter who it is. All of the Georgia fans around me was fine, No problems at all, seemed to be nice folks, and they yelled go Dogs alot, but Iam cool with that, I yelled alot in that game too. I feel we are there to watch a football game, and support our team, just like the visiting fans are there to do also, but I think that we should all be good examples for the school that we are there to support.

My first 4 years, I represented the University as a member of the Pride. I had a target on my back. Everything I did reflected on the group, so I kept myself in line.

Student sections have been showing a complete lack of class for the past 20 yrs. Unless the climate and character of the student body as a whole changes it will remain that way.

As an alumnus and student if your disenchanted with how our students act, do something about it and get involved, don't just complain about it here.

I can tell you that it is a whole lot tamer than it used to be in the seventies and eighties.

Didn't say that it was alright with me, not at all, but trust me there are worse things in life. If and when you do get to the sand box it will become very clear to you. By the way I'm not expecting you to care about my 15 yrs. But if you don't mind I will about you.

You never told me what you used to call 'me' during your days at UT.

I was yanking your chain. Relax. The only thing you can do is set the example and live by it. Enjoy school and don't worry about the things you can do nothing about.

Just remember as your judging your being judged.

Well, I was there for four years in the late 70s and never missed a home game the entire time I was there, and I never heard the student section -- or any other section -- drop the f-bomb in unison, or anything close to it. Certainly some individuals shouted it, but no mass chants. But maybe you heard it when you were there.

jwells,

I agree with most of what you are saying.

What I want to express is that the Georgia fans cheering when our player was down were fans of all ages - old, young, male, female, students and parents.

Our students were the only ones who responded. I am fine with that. It is their school. Their friend laying on the ground.

I didn't hear anyone else chanting it.

And if you expect to go to a football game and not hear a few f-bombs and the like, you may need to either choose different events to attend or lower your expectations.

it's a shame when someone tells you to stay away from ut ballgames if you don't want you're kids to hear childish and vulgar language and acts, as if i'm the one wrong for not wanting my children to hear garbage like that. i don't take them to rock concerts with me for obvious reasons, but i'd like to think that i could enjoy a day at neyland with my son without hearing 20,000 idiots chanting f*** someone. a few f-bombs from individuals my son won't repeat, a chant from 20% of the crowd, likely.

IMO, I have always thought cussing was a lack of self control. I try not doing it and learned an important lesson when I was 18 using the F bomb around ladies. I made the mistake of using that word in front of my mother and my step-father who happend to be 6-5 and 285 at the time picked me up with one hand and slammed we against the wall. I never have used that word again. I am as close to him as my own father.

your mama is 6-5 and 285? and your step-father also? you need a manager for that tag team?

Never in my wildest dreams did I believe that an Air Force pilot would actually try to imply that they have actually been in the sandbox. Let's get this straight right quick though. Being in a combat zone and flying above a combat zone are two completely different beasts.

You need reading comprehensive skills. :). Nah, I am guessing she weighed 115 at the time. Not sure because I never asked her. Now, At the age of 38 I still know not to ask my wife.

Explain to your child that it is a bad word and that they will get into trouble for using it. Are you going to go to middle school with them to make sure they don't hear bad words? High school?

Again, keep in mind that these games started when it was just the students that attended.

i take it you're not a father. your question about taking him to middle school and high school is retarded because my kid is now 7, so in the present i will worry about what i want my 7 year old to hear. for a long time now fans other than students have been attending college football games. if the students were the only fans attending the games today, then we probably wouldn't be having this discussion.

Then next game take your son with you down to the student section and tell them all to shut up. You are tired of hearing their crass language. I am sure they will understand that because you go to the football games you can tell them to stop "mis-behaving" in their own stadium.

Oh, and maybe you should reevaluate how you judge class my friend. I am sure the parent of someone afflicted with downsyndrome wouldn't appreciate your attempt at humor.
