Chant on Saturday?

I've seen many a disgusting display by UT fans at football games over the years. The worst came in a game against Houston, circa 1965. They had a black running back and UT had no black athletes at the time and the fans were yelling the "n" word everytime the guy touched the ball. Kill the "n.....", all sorts of stuff like that. I practically ended up in a fight that day with one of the fraternity guys over that language.

So when I hear the F bomb, it doesn't seem as bad as it could be and not as good as it should be, but it is a definite improvement from some of the good ol' days when Vol fans were in another place, urinating in the aisles and staggering drunk from every exit.

Oh, and maybe you should reevaluate how you judge class my friend. I am sure the parent of someone afflicted with downsyndrome wouldn't appreciate your attempt at humor.

calling someone with downsyndrome, retarded, is classless. i was calling your post retarded, there's a difference. implying that it's alright to toss f-bombs in front of children because they're going to here it at school anyway, is classless. now, i'm finished reevaluating, my friend.

Then next game take your son with you down to the student section and tell them all to shut up. You are tired of hearing their crass language. I am sure they will understand that because you go to the football games you can tell them to stop "mis-behaving" in their own stadium.

i'm not telling anyone how to behave. many other posters and i were giving our opinions of the chant. that was the point of this thread, right?

Your arrogance astounds me godfather. So if you call a black man a n***** then it is racist; however if you called me (a white male) that name you would be exempt from the racist label? I fail to follow your logic (or severe lack thereof).

well....yeah. calling a black man the n word is worse than calling a white man that word. because, that word has been used to unfairly degrade black people in the same way retarded has been used to degrade many with downsyndrome. calling a white man the n word or your post retarded is not taken or meant to be taken as serious. seriously, how many times has someone called white people n***** trying to degrade that person? normally, i don't worry about this because i don't use the n word in anyway. and to save time, i'll never call any of your post retarded as crazy as they may be.

I am trying to explain to you that on a post where people are on here arguing about classlessness, that it doesn’t really help your case when you say that you don’t want your child exposed to the f-bomb and in the same breath call my post retarded. Smacks of hypocrisy.
I don’t think that the chant was entirely appropriate, but I also think that if you expect to come into a college football game and not hear bad language or experience rude behavior you’re a little naïve.

no, the way that i used the word wasn't hypocritical. my son's been at the game and heard the bad language and the rude behavior, just a little different hearing it from thousands at a time when compared to individuals. agree to disagree.

go vols.

Let’s try this in a little nicer version…

Jwell (and all who are sensitive),
You are undoubtedly the worst poster in this forum. This is the SEC not the Pac-10, we care! The intensity and sincerity that we posses while rooting for our team may hurt the virgin ears of a G- rated audience, but the student section is occupied by adults that age over 18 and over who have been drinking excessively the whole day. As far as class, class is displayed before and after the game, That is why we are known as the most inviting fans in the SEC. During the game I would expect nothing less than warriors on the field as well as warriors in the stands. Please go back to CAL and roost in your tree…

Sadly, This whole thread reflects a general degradation of socially acceptable public behavior and a lack of consideration for how that behavior might affect anyone else who sees or hears it, no matter how old or young they are. We have raised generations now that will say or do anything they want to and if you don't like it, then FU.

A little early to be throwing that around, isn't it? Read more. :)

IMO, if you have to resort to profanity to get your point across it is a sign of ignorance and immaturity.

Edit: I do commend you for being a bit nicer.

I hate hearing that it is a generational thing. I have seen old men and women (in their late 80's & 90's) act as disrespectful and rude as many times as I have seen it from young punks. It isn't as much about age or generations as it is about different people. Some people are just small minded, other are more conscientious.

I believe you are right and I stand corrected.

Never in my wildest dreams did I believe that an Air Force pilot would actually try to imply that they have actually been in the sandbox. Let's get this straight right quick though. Being in a combat zone and flying above a combat zone are two completely different beasts.

Well see this is where your showing your complete lack of knowledge about how war actually works, which is quite surprising. I'm not gonna try to qualify my experiences here, actually I'm beginning to wonder if your actually in the Army or just pretending to be, especially from your previous statement. Combat is combat my friend, if bullets are being fired at you does it really matter if your on the ground or in the air? The last time I looked you were dead either way.

Normally I would be offended that someone would question my time spent in the Gulf, but knowing that this is the internet and you have no clue of who your talking to I'm just gonna let it go.

Well put. :salute:

The irony of someone posting this on an internet message board never ceases to crack me up.
