Watching this class develop similar to the Kiffin Classless Class of 09 (in terms of talent), I have been amazed at the lack of questionable character guys or even outright thugs that we had to take for the sake of talent. Jiffy Kiffy had some of us convinced that in order to get talent you had to take guys who were low character with bad track records. Lil Wayne and all that. Had to do it, it was a necessary evil.

I think Butch blew that notion out of the water since he's been there, and revealed that philosophy to simply be a reflection of a classless clown coach. Shouldn't be too surprised that a class' character reflects the character of the coach after all.

The geographic midpoint of Tennessee's 2014 class? For now, Riceville gets the honor | Evan's Eleven

So reading this article (above) made me think: perhaps getting out of South Florida is part of the difference? Florida may be a talent-rich state but there also seem to be a lot of character issues there as compared to certain other areas.

So why does it matter? I'm hoping it means this class has a much better chance of staying together, paying off, and rebuilding the culture the right way.

And posters on here bought it hook, line, and sinker.

There's still the mindset among some that as long as the team win, who cares if they attend class or stay out of trouble. You mainly heard that the past 3-4 years when the team WASN'T winning but going to class and staying out of trouble.

i'm not a quick reader so that double negative almost threw me off but on second read this is a very positive post - "the lack of questionable character guys" = "lots of high character guys" in this recruiting class.

I agree - it seems we picked up LOTS OF HIGH CHARACTER GUYS in this recruiting class!

Ha I didn't notice the grammar there. Next time I'll go for the rare quadruple negative, but I need to practice first! Don't wanna break the Internet.

Glad the point came through in spite of the wording. Guess I was saying I kept expecting character issues as each new stud committed, bc I was kind of trained to believe it was necessary (yep I'm one of the ones who bought it) but each commit would impress me over and over. The light slowly came on....

I know 1st hand that Hurd has not been too impressive with his attitude already. FYI. I am not saying anything poor about him, but let's just say he isn't winning over too many friends.

Let's take our time with these kids. Hurd is maybe 18 at most. 18 is still a kid. He has been told by everyone he meets that he is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Naturally, he is going to have an attitude. Once he is with the older teammates and gets some more maturity under his belt, he will be fine. Just because these athletes are big, strong, and fast doesn't mean they are men yet. We just need to let them grow up. When I was 18, I didn't know which end was up!!!!!!

That pretty much sums it up. Let's just say I was trying to explain what has been told to me from someone that has witnessed "attitude" first hand. No eeriness or pictures of Will Ferrell needed- I really could care less.

What I see in your future...

Maybe if you can offer something meaningful to the conversation, I would be impressed. You obviously have too much time on your hands to post responses like that. Please just ignore my posts. Thanks.

So some feel there are just as many issues but they are being covered up? Just haven't had time to come out yet?

just FYI jalen hurd and vic wharton have both been kicked out of schools

And FYI.... moron....

Jalen Hurd was not expelled from MBA.

Any person with half a brain would know that if a student is kicked out of one school, they CANNOT transfer to another school and play sports the next year. Per TSSAA rules, they would have to sit out a year.

Funny how JH played his freshmen year at MBA and started his sophomore year at Beech.

First hand? You mean JH doesn't like you? Poor guy, you'll be alright. Want me to ask his parents to get you an autograph? Will that make you feel better?

Anyone that truly knows Hurd knows that he is a very pleasant and likable young man.
