I know 1st hand that Hurd has not been too impressive with his attitude already. FYI. I am not saying anything poor about him, but let's just say he isn't winning over too many friends.

Knowing first had would imply that you are on the football team and deal with him personally, not that you heard it from a real football player and repeated it on a message board...everyone wants to be an Insider and sir I am afraid you are not. Hate to burst your bubble but you sir need to get a life instead of bashing some kid (Jalen) whom you haven't even had the pleasure of meeting....GROW UP!!!

Okay, some perspective now. Got 17-18 year old kids (yes kids as in not yet mature), who have been the stud athletes in high school and set upon a pedestal. The guys want to be like them or at least their BFF and the girls all want to be their girlfriend. Difficult to keep it all in perspective and keep a level head. They may be all full of themselves and ready to set the world on fire, but then practice starts and coaches cut them down a notch. When they finally get into a game against SEC competition, it ain't high school anymore. They all have different personalities but age, experience and the folks they come in contact with will mold and change them hopefully for the better. Hopefully they will learn to avoid drunken parties and resisting arrest without having to experience it first hand. Give it some time and I'm sure most will be ok but some will fall by the wayside. Always been that way. Just human nature.

First hand? You mean JH doesn't like you? Poor guy, you'll be alright. Want me to ask his parents to get you an autograph? Will that make you feel better?

Anyone that truly knows Hurd knows that he is a very pleasant and likable young man.

You are right about the 1st hand. I was told by a player so it isn't 1st hand. Sorry about that. If you don't think many 5**High Schoolers come in with attitudes, you are mistaken. I was told he was extremely arrogant. That will all be handled in house if we have the upperclassman that provide the leadership.

Sounds like this guy is trying to be Jalen's "best friend" and got blown off...or lost a girl to him...now he trashes him. Jealousy at it's finest. It's the rebirth of Midfielder.

I doubt that this guy has had as many friends as Jalen has made in the last month. Trolls will make up anything in an effort to try to ridicule Tennessee. Sounds like a Vandy fan to me

That pretty much sums it up. Let's just say I was trying to explain what has been told to me from someone that has witnessed "attitude" first hand. No eeriness or pictures of Will Ferrell needed- I really could care less.

then why you even post?

Sorry, still don't believe you. Sounds like one of your buddies is a little jealous of JH.

And while you may group all 5*s into one group, I know this one pretty well.

When I talked to JH and asked him how things were going, he told me that he was very impressed with Lane and Young and their leadership in their respective position. He said that the upperclassmen have done a great job in showing them the ropes and helping them to fit in. He sounded extremely humbled by telling me how "hard" it was to adjust to school and football on the next level and sounded somewhat broken. Hardly, arrogant at all. Arrogance would imply that he is making everyone look stupid out there, and this is way too easy for him.

And if I was "bashing" him by what I said above, then I apologize. I truthfully can't see where that would be implied.

Watching this class develop similar to the Kiffin Classless Class of 09 (in terms of talent), I have been amazed at the lack of questionable character guys or even outright thugs that we had to take for the sake of talent. Jiffy Kiffy had some of us convinced that in order to get talent you had to take guys who were low character with bad track records. Lil Wayne and all that. Had to do it, it was a necessary evil.

I think Butch blew that notion out of the water since he's been there, and revealed that philosophy to simply be a reflection of a classless clown coach. Shouldn't be too surprised that a class' character reflects the character of the coach after all.

The geographic midpoint of Tennessee's 2014 class? For now, Riceville gets the honor | Evan's Eleven

So reading this article (above) made me think: perhaps getting out of South Florida is part of the difference? Florida may be a talent-rich state but there also seem to be a lot of character issues there as compared to certain other areas.

So why does it matter? I'm hoping it means this class has a much better chance of staying together, paying off, and rebuilding the culture the right way.

Careful, bub. Say something bad 'bout Florida and closet Seminole and Gator fans here will slit your throat. Or somehow connect it you being anti-state rights. Be careful.

True. Some arrogance is a good thing IMO. More so when they establish themselves on the field first. Hurd has great potential, but we have been snake bitten so many times a la Bryce Brown.

On the other hand he was "arrogant" enough. . .uh, erm, cough, cough, enough to not be at AJ's party.

Sounds like maybe the upperclassmen have already flexed their muscle- "broken." Glad to hear. I stand by what I was told and it seems like our team leaders (Lane) is providing the stewardship needed for our program to grow in the years to come.

Were you there?

You notice how the lady cop participated only when her male partner was nearby? :)

Getting kind of defensive aren't you? Cool it, man, VN is known for eating our own. No exceptions, thems the rules. 'Specially when you make unproven claims like yours about a player. Gotta know when to walk away, kid. :p

If it takes you a month to figure out if someone is arrogant, then I feel for you.

Who said anything about arrogant in my post? I was referring to you saying he "wasn't winning over too many friends." I feel for your reading comprehension.
