SIAP --> here are some details from wikipedia that i found intriguing about charlie strong:

-In 1999, Strong joined the South Carolina Gamecocks as defensive coordinator, becoming the first African American coordinator in Southeastern Conference (SEC) history. His stifling defenses and charismatic personality created buzz that he would be possibly the first black head coach in the SEC, but job offers were slim. Sylvester Croom eventually broke the color barrier in the SEC coaching ranks.
People have been talking about charlie strong as a head coach for a long time now.. He has drastically improved Louisville. Give him our resources!

-When Urban Meyer was hired as Florida's head coach, Strong was the only assistant coach retained from Zook's staff.
Strong had only been there two years. This is very impressive; and in hindsight, we all know that Urban made a good decision by keeping strong.

-He became the 21st head football coach at the University of Louisville on December 9, 2009. In a telephone interview that day with ESPN.com columnist Pat Forde, former Indianapolis Colts head coach Tony Dungy, himself African American, said of Strong, "When they see what he can do, you're probably going to have a lot of people disappointed they didn't hire him sooner."
Tony Dungy is the man

2010 Louisville 7–6 3–4 T–5th W Beef 'O' Brady's

2011 Louisville 7–6 5–2 T–1st L Belk

2012 Louisville 10–2 5–2 T–1st TBD Sugar 18 (coaches) 22(AP)

Look at this. Ok, he went 7-6 his first two years.. Louisville was in the crapper before he took over. He went to a bowl game every year. His first season, he beat Larry Fedora's Southern miss golden eagles 31-28 in the beef o brady bowl.

Year two he improves his conference record to 5-2 and tied for first place in the conference with cincinnati and wvu. Louisville beat WVU this season 38-35. This is the year, I KNOW YOU REMEMBER, when WVU blew Kevin Steele's Clemson defense out of the water: 70-33 in the orange bowl (Why we got sunseri instead of steele 8=>).

Year 3 his team, (Remember, this is louisville we are talking about), goes 10-2 and 5-2 in conference. Tied for first in Big East again. They are going to the sugar bowl to play the number 4 Florida Gators. The only two losses were an ugly defeat to Syracuse and a close 3 OT loss to UConn. Oh yea, he beat UNC and Larry Fedora this year also 39-34 week three.

The man is not an average head coach. Elite Defensive Coordinator. Excellent head coach. I am very excited to see what he could do here.. I hope we get him

P.S. Hopefully everyone has heard about his track record as a D coord.. maybe someone else could do some research and post. I was merely curious about his head coaching resume

Strong is not the coach to pull UT from the bottom of the SEC.

If he failed in 2 - 3 years, people would be calling for his job.

Lets examine the year 3 10-2 record a little closely...

Team Outcome Score Opponent Final Record
Kentucky W 32-14 (2 - 10)
Missouri St. W 35-7
UNC W 39-34 (8 - 4)
FIU W 28-21 (3 - 9)
So. Miss W 21-17 (0 - 12)
Pitt W 45-35 (6 - 6)
USF W 27-25 (3 - 9)
Cincinnati W 34-31 (9 - 3)
Temple W 45-17 (4 - 7)
Syracuse L 26-45 (7 - 5)
Connecticut L 20-23 (5 - 7)
Rutgers W 20-17 (9 - 3)

10-2 record compiled on I-A opponents with a W/L record of (56-75) for a .427 percent. I understand U of L cannot help who they have scheduled and conference realignment impacts. However, when you break down the 10-2 it is not all that impressive.

Valid Point.
I believe that 10-2 is very impressive in his third year. What is more impressive is the continual improvement each year. The year prior to Strong taking over, Louisville was 4-8, 1-6 conference play, and tied for last in Big East. Strong took over and had them first in conference in only his second year.
I am assuming you would agree that Sumlin was a good hire by A&M. In his 13-1 season at houston his only significant win was against Penn St in the cotton bowl. His team got blown out by Fedora's Southern Miss in the conference usa championship, 28-49. He was not winning against stellar opposition either. Sumlin was a great hire. The year prior he went 5-7 with houston... My point is that neither Strong or Sumlin had a lot of resources at their respective schools. They also don't play great competition. But, they still found a way to win consistently. They're winners. Sumlin still found a way to win with A&M despite being on a bigger stage. He had bigger, faster, stronger athletes and knew what to do with them. If a guy can coach, then he can coach. Dooley didn't ever win at LA tech, and certainly didn't win here. It is all relativity man. At Louisville you're a relatively weaker school; thus, you compete against weaker competition in a weaker conference. While it may be unimpressive to us SEC fans who he beat, it is still quite an accomplishment to win 10 football games at Louisville.

His team was #47 in total offense and #25 in total defense going against the powerhouses of UNC, Cincy and Rutgers as his biggest games. They won 6 of their 10 games by 7 or less points. They were extremely lucky to win against Cincy and Rutgers - games I watched - where they were outplayed for 3 quarters. They beat 0-12 USM by 4. Don't see the man love some of you have for Strong. This season could have easily been another another 7-6 for Charlie and he has 3 recruiting classes in there already.

I would be good with Strong, however would be very interested to see what type of staff he puts together. Does he have any strong coaches at Louisville or old Florida chums?

If he turns it around which I think he could, those haters would be singing his praise.

The only men i love are jesus and santa clause. also my dad and grandfathers.

That is flawed logic sir b/c Dooley only lost to UGA by 7, South Carolina by 3, Missouri by 3, and should have only lost to miss st by 3 until that bull**** last minute td. This season could have easily been a 9-3 for Dools. In football you either win or lose.. That is what matters

Yes chas strong is such a great HC prospect that the SEC AD with the most experience working with him, Jeremy foley, snapped him up when UF needed a new HC and ... Oh, wait.

The SEC is the pros. He is a Frosh coach at best.

More than likely a Frosh coach is all we can get at this point.

We're not an extremely attractive job at the moment. Guys like Stoops or any other extablished head coach may not want to leave their secure job where they can win annually for a rebuilding job in the toughest conference in football where they will be expected to compete with Bama, Florida, UGA, LSU.

If we weren't struggling the past few years and had a better talent base for them to start with it'd be a different story maybe.

Wasn't he just getting to Louisville whn Fla needed a new coach?

Strong will be a beast here!
Watch and see if recruiting doesn't take off once he has a staff in place. Outside of Gruden, I don't think any other candidate will be able to give our current recruiting class the kind of boost needed to move this team forward.

Watch and see if we don't get 5*RB Derrick Green (maybe snatch 5*RB Derrick Henry from Bama...as we were one of his finalists). Probably get 5*DE Lawson, former Auburn commit. 4* WR Marquez North (6'4") and 4*JUCO WR Rumph (6'5"). Probably get Von Bell. If he wants to take a 2nd QB in this class (who is equally good at passing and running), all he has to do is offer Asiantii Woulard, who won the ESPN Elite 11..so this class will likely take off shortly after he arrives. Wait and see.
