Charlie Strong Head Coach Resume

Watch and see if recruiting doesn't take off once he has a staff in place. Outside of Gruden, I don't think any other candidate will be able to give our current recruiting class the kind of boost needed to move this team forward.

Watch and see if we don't get 5*RB Derrick Green (maybe snatch 5*RB Derrick Harvey from Bama...as we were one of his finalists). Probably get 5*DE Lawson, former Auburn commit. 4* WR Marquez North (6'4") and 4*JUCO WR Rumph (6'5"). Probably get Von Bell. If he wants to take a 2nd QB in this class (who is equally good at passing and running), all he has to do is offer Asiantii Woulard, who won the ESPN Elite 11..so this class will likely take off shortly after he arrives. Wait and see.
Who is Derek Harvey?

I agree 100% with this--I think it's easy to get jaded because of what has happened to this program but we aren't getting Gruden or Saban. I think Strong is worthy of this opportunity.

Strong isn't necessarily my first choice but I'll get behind him and support him.Strong will be as good as the people he surrounds himself with.

Im a fan of Strong, but Bridgewater has a lot to do with his success this year.

I don't disagree with this. However, to be fair...

All of his players had everything to do with his success. (Note: Those players were recruited, coached up and put in schemes with the best chance to succeed.) That's what great coaches do. Go get talented kids, teach them, scheme them, and then let them play.

I don't know about getting any coach without several years of winning experience as "the man"

Strong can prob. get it done but I just don't see a long enough resume as a head coach.

P.S. Hopefully everyone has heard about his track record as a D coord.. maybe someone else could do some research and post. I was merely curious about his head coaching resume

For me right now, this is the most important thing at The UT.

High, high risk / high reward. Not sure if this is what we need. More homerun, less risk

First off not supporting Strong one way or the other. But, I did play golf yesterday with a UF supporter and he told me he and some of his cronies wanted Strong over Muschamp....and still do.

His team was #47 in total offense and #25 in total defense going against the powerhouses of UNC, Cincy and Rutgers as his biggest games. They won 6 of their 10 games by 7 or less points. They were extremely lucky to win against Cincy and Rutgers - games I watched - where they were outplayed for 3 quarters. They beat 0-12 USM by 4. Don't see the man love some of you have for Strong. This season could have easily been another another 7-6 for Charlie and he has 3 recruiting classes in there already.

I would love for TN to find ways to win close games right now. Agree?

FWIW Bama's schedule was pretty weak this year too but Spurrier was saying they could beat the KC Chiefs right before they lost at home.

There are only about four of those guys and they are all employeed at programs in better shape than TN.

Gruden would have been a homerun based on namer recognition alone. The lack of experience at the college level was still very high. Considering what it would take get him hear it was extremely high.

Another rival talking up strong for us. I always find these a bit skeptical. Everybody wants him because he is the best, but nobody ever takes him. Oh well, if he is good enough to be turned down by Fla, he must be good enough for us.

I like Grundy better than Strong just for the fact he's played in a real conf, not the Big Least. Fedora doesnt tickle me too much just because its the ACC but it is a smidgen better than the Big Least. I'd give a golf clap to Strong or Fedora if hired but would be pleased if it was Grundy.

Gruden would be that home run on the front end because its the prize virtually everybody wants. Lots of press for sure and probably some high star players. Its the long term that concerns me more. Not sure if he'd stay that long being such a wanted commidity. His ability to win is iffy too. He just might be able to build it up but he also may flounder like he did after winning the SB. Worse of all he has to learn how to recruit on the job since he hasnt done it in 20+yrs. On the job training isnt what we need going up against Saban, Spurrier, Miles, etc... its about learning how far you can push the envelope without getting in trouble.

I just pray Hart knows what he's doing keeping everything close to his chest. I'm going to trust him until he proves me wrong

Give me Gruden or give me death (hyperbole, of course);

If not Gruden, then Stoops. This will not or should not happen. Stoops has already accomplished too much at Ok to leave now;

If not either of those, Strong is a solid choice, probably even a great choice if I had not bought into the Grude. Strong went to a bowl every year. Improved the second year to share a conference title. And then really busted out this year. Now, notice the two losses were back to back and at the end of the season when coaching job rumors were targeting him. I don't know of course, but one may wonder if he may have been distracted somewhat those weeks. Regardless, he is in a BCS bowl. Well come on to UT. I would welcome him.

My name is Smokey90 and I am a Grudenholic. Do not judge me. It is a decease and not my fault.

Strong has an important intangible: he wants to be in the SEC and feels he has something to prove. A coach with a chip on his shoulder (a "me against the world" attitude) can will his team to victory.
