Charlie Strong

I'd take Davis over Strong.

I think Davis is a good coach but will probably have us on probation in 3 years.
Petrino is also a good coach but the character issues will keep him from getting an interview.

I also like Tressel and think he should at least be interviewed. He got caught up trying to protect the program when he should have let the players own up to the tattoo gate and moved on.

I think Strong will recruit well and Louisville's record has improved by two games each year he has been there. I will be very interested to see they do against FL, however they dont exactly have the same caliber of players as FL.

really....7-6, 7-6 and 10-2.......hmmm I am no math major but pretty sure 7-6 both yrs is not a 2 game improvement...

Gruden: fantasy land (joke)
Stoops: not going to happen
Peterson: pipe dream
Patterson: comfortable at TCU
Fisher: withdrew name
Gundy: same team as this year. Great offense, no defense. Should've kept Dooley
Fedora: may not want to so to UNC like Kiffin at UT
Smart: no experience as a HC
Butch Jones: no thank you
Strong: good recruiter, good DC, SEC roots and with the right OC, he could be successful.

Briles and Swinney are names I have heard mentioned.

Who else out there could UT legitimately get to lead the program that is better? I don't think Hart can make everyone happy with his hire no matter who it is. I honestly thought Hart would have someone already in mind before he fired Dooley but I guess he didn't. I am ok with Strong as HC.

really...he is a proven WINNER in the BIG 12 and you compare him to Dooley.....just lost all credibility...smh

The 3 years before Strong Louisville went 15-21. The last 3 years with Strong 24-14, yea he can't coach

If integrity is an underlying factor that the next coach must possess then we just as soon get Bobby Petrino as to Butch Davis. Even if it was all blown out of proportion at UNC, Davis still got fired for it. There must have been strong evidence to support the chancellor's cause. I believe Dave Hart is looking for a young, qualified HC that can rebuild this program and stay here for a long time. Charlie Strong fits this mold. Is he my first choice? No. But, he probably wasn't Hart's either. He is working his way down the list. Truth is, Tennessee fans will not be happy with this hire no matter who the guy is, simply because he is not Jon Gruden. They set themselves up for disappoint and it really is a sad deal. As a fan base, we all need to come together and support the next coach regardless of who it is. Do it in the name of "It's an upgrade over Derek Dooley" if nothing else.

Could not have said it better myself. Everyone calling for a home run hire needs to get over it, because it isn't going to happen. We all want Gruden or Stoops but they don't want us. Strong would be the best hire of the candidates left. Who do y'all want Fedora?

You missed my point. His teams don't play defense but thrive on scoring lots of points. He will have the same success in Knoxville as Dooley did unless he can hire a top notch DC and recruits on the defensive side of the ball. This years team scored points and didn't stop anybody. Gundy is not leaving OSU anyway. He will get a raise to stay.

Agree most of us would like to have Stoops, Patterson, or Gruden but they're not coming. Like they say "if you can't be with the one you love then love the one you're with."

I will take Strong any day, of course i think Butch Davis would get the job done big time. Our program is down and has been, Davis could come in and make UT a prominent contender again.

Charlie Strong had a press conference today. He was repeatedly asked about his coaching plans for the future, and he was too non-committal about being at U of L next year to suit Cardinal fans. Says a lot.

I don't have a strong (pun) opinion about the man one way or the other. I do think we could do worse. By the way, his wife's name is Vicki...Hmmm.

He was named Region 1 coach of the year, in company with Kevin Sumlin, Brian Kelly, Bill Snyder, and the guy at Oregon State.

You can find reports of the news conference at the Louisville Courier Journal site and also at cardchronicle.

Strong has some big time people backing him up, including Saban! Anybody want to guess who said those things about Strong?

="He's a great coach and a hard-working guy. He was always a very good recruiter in college, which I think is paramount if you're going to have success as a coach. I think he has all the right ingredients to be successful as a head coach."

=Ties to the SEC, strong recruiter

= spoke to a few guys on staff who worked with him and said this hire scares them more than any other they heard about us. This guy is going to be good.

A Nick Saban endorsement means nothing to me---he was complimentary to Dooley this season too after he pummeled us. I hate Saban and his smugness.

Yeah it was a trick question, all of those quotes are about Dooley when he was hired but have been echoed several times in this thread in regards to Strong.
