NFL head coaching experience (Wasn't successful, but he didn't get much help at all from the owners.). Good defensive mind. Connects well to young players. Personality would translate strongly into the recruiting phase of the game.

Here's how the guys on Sport Talk work:
Last week they were belly-laughing at "messageboard" posters who will spread anything and believe everything they read. Quake said it was "pure idiocy" to think that Gruden would even think about coaching in college. Doc said UT would contact Gruden, but he would turn them down be cause he is a NFL guy. Cowboy Joe...he didn't care, he played devil's advocate.

Now, if Gruden takes the UT job they will say "You heard it here first".
If he doesn't take the job, "We told you all along he wasn't coming."
And they will talk about today's info as something they put out there to see how rumors spread and people are idiots for acting this way.

I used to listen to Dr. B.,Quake,and Cowboy Joe for years when I lived in Hixson. They are buffoons. It was them or Finebaum,and I usually chose Finebaum. I hate Paul-freakin-Finebaum. He`s a disgrace. A Tennessee alum that dogs his alma mater,and acts as Bammer is the greatest team in the history of any sport. So,if I am choosing to listen to that azzhole over WGOWs nutjobs,that should tell you how idiotic I believe they are. Plus 2/3 of the show`s are mostly general sports news,not college football. They spent more time on golf and Nascar as on college football. And they are bad to talk about UGa and Bama more than UT.

Yeah, I remember Dennis Franchione never signed his actual contract at Alabama. Some for that Gillespie guy at Kentucky. They were coaching (and getting paid) based on the memos. But, I don't think you can have a memo or any kind of binding document, until you actually have an opening, and list the job and everything, right? This is a pubic institution. There are rules regarding transparency.

How many public schools actually play by the rules , especially in College Football . Rules are meant to be broken !

Only TN state jobs in the "preferred service" (middle management and below) have any kind of job posting requirements. Executive level jobs are at will positions, meaning ordinary civil service type protections do not apply. No job posting required. Look up the TEAM Act signed by Gov. Haslam.

Gruden has issues with Hart. Will not sing contract given to him...exit clause is restrictive. Not gonna happen unlerss Hart gives in.

I would be cautious. Don't get your hopes up so high that even if a great hire other Gruden happens you will be emotionally devestated

I think that is how the bit used to go, I just can’t remember if it was on WIVK or WIMZ back in the day.

I'm amazed you actually heard the show! That has got to be the most commercial-driven radio show in existence! I have about a 15 minute commute home from work every day and I swear 12 minutes of that is nothing but commercials.

I am excited to have Gruden and his ELITE NFL and possibly College staff :D Reminds me of the excitement in recruiting that Kiffin brought, except for the feeling of cheating and thugs being on campus lol
