But in essence what you are saying here is that those who can afford to buy a Lexus every three years should pay in more so those who can't can buy a Maxima every five. It just isn't the way capitalism works. If you can't afford a Maxima every five years maybe you should look into a Kia.

There are many choices in a free market society, if you want more than you can currently afford you should simply do something to better yourself. If you cannot, for whatever reason, simply learn to be happy with what you have and be proud that you can provide for yourself and loved ones. I know that's what my wife and I have learned to do.

You're right...I was just stating a manner in which the economy can be stimulated by raising taxes on the highest earners and cutting it for the middle class.

I guess it all goes back to MY definition of success and how it has little to do with money.

how does it have little to do with money when the basic premise is that taking money from one person to give to another is wholesome.

Guess you're really not thinking through the inevitable collapse of the consumption machine, when those being taken from stop innovating and producing, thus paying less taxes and funding consumption machine.

I agree, there are different definitions of success.

I don't need designer clothes to impress people or feel good about myself. Nothing wrong with those who do, as long as they can afford it.

I am a pretty simple person, as long as my family is provided for we are doing ok. If I can't I will do whatever I have to (work extra jobs, look for better employment etc).

Case in point is the current situation in New York. All those big earners on Wall St. aren't making as much money this year and the city is going to sorely miss their tax dollars. They are looking to the federal govt. for help.
