Chick-Fil-A President: Men shouldn't eat other men's chicken

The reaction from the mayors of Chicago and Boston is troubling. Strong arming private citizens due to their beliefs?

Yeah, but this is a tactic used before in history. The african american movement set precedent on how mayors could "strong" arm private citizens, and many of us are and were OK with some of those injustices being taken hold of by mayors. Just saying... I really do not have an opinion about this whole thing.

Has anyone ran across this:

Amazon's Founder Pledges $2.5 Million in Support of Same-Sex Marriage - NYTimes.com

This will be interesting to follow/compare, as it is basically a business supporting the other side of the issue. Not identical situations to be sure, but close enough.

I will say that the reason so many seem to lash out against the Chick-Fil-A situation is because they view gay rights/marriage equality as more a civil rights issue, and that is why those opposed are often placed in such a negative light. Obviously not everyone views it as anything close to civil rights and that's fine, but I think it is one of the primary reasons the opposition seems to always get slammed.

Bet other than a few ultraconservative groups and churches no one will say peep about Amazon.

That's a little strong. He just said he didn't believe in gay marriage. He hasn't once said that he would refuse service to a homosexual.

It's where they put their money that bothers me. Honestly, I wish all corporations would keep their money out of social politics (both sides) but that will never happen.

They've never made any attempt to hide the fact they are a Christian company

Agree - and their Christian faith doesn't bother me. It's their spending on social politics that does.

Not thrilled about the Amazon spending either, but I belive history will show that they came down on the morally right side of the issue...

All I can do is vote with my money - what little I have.

Off topic...

Are you liberal?

Because this is essentially the crux of capitalism. Also, an argument against big government. People should make their own decisions on how their money is best spent - not the government.

I don't identify with either side. If forced to label myself, I'm fiscially conservative and socially liberal. I'm also more middle of the road than either party represents and quite disgusted with politics in general.

This is the biggest issue that I have as well. I personally have no problem with Mr. Cathy's beliefs and Chick-Fil-A does not appear to discriminate at all in terms of hiring or serving homosexuals. He expressed his beliefs on marriage equality, and while I may disagree, there is nothing wrong with that. The donations are another matter, however. Some of the groups they have donated to have affiliations with very anti-gay groups, including the mess in Uganda. Now, I have no doubt that the vast majority of the charitable contributions go to fantastic causes; I think each person has to decide if and how to deal with that. If 99% goes to causes you support, but 1% goes to something you view as hateful, bigoted, etc. what do you do? Does it have to be 50/50? Maybe contributions mean nothing to you. This can be very tricky, though, and we would probably be very surprised to find out where a lot of corporate contributions go.

Since I am not surprisingly on the side of marriage equality, and understand that Chick-Fil-A donates to organizations actively opposing marriage equality, I do not provide business to them. This does not, however, mean that I feel they are a bigoted company.

Same here.
They are an okay sandwich. I think Zaxby's is better.

I like the kickin chicken sandwich, so I've helped my sister who is a cfa manager recreate it. She vows to offer our version when she gets her own store soon.
