Feinstein: China Is ‘Growing Into a Respectable Nation’

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D., Calif.) on Thursday said China is "growing into a respectable nation" and cautioned against holding the country accountable for the coronavirus pandemic.

"We hold China as a potential trading partner, as a country that has pulled tens of millions of people out of poverty in a short period of time, and as a country growing into a respectable nation amongst other nations. I deeply believe that," Feinstein said during a Senate Judiciary Committee meeting.

She said that stripping foreign sovereign immunity from China would be a "huge mistake" and claimed that allowing individuals to hold China accountable for the spread of the virus could allow other countries to do the same to the United States. Her firm defense of China comes after a new flood of reports showing human rights abuses perpetrated by the Chinese government. The Chinese Communist Party has organized the mass detention and forced sterilization of Uyghurs, a mostly Muslim ethnic minority, and drone footage showed blindfolded and shackled Uyghurs being forced onto trains.

Feinstein made the remarks during a Senate Judiciary Committee meeting debating a bill that would allow individuals to sue the Chinese government for its release and subsequent cover-up of the novel coronavirus.

Feinstein has also benefited from her husband's relationship with China. She pushed for expanded trade relations with China as her husband's company was partnering with business ventures in the country. She said that a "firewall" existed between her political career and her husband's business interests.

At some point, the U.S. & a coalition will have to fight China. They want global dominance.

It does seem like this is somewhat inevitable...but...what about the nuclear deterrent of "mutually assured destruction "?

The reason I ask is this: even right now, the most worrisome weapons China has wisely developed for "area denial" of our carrier battle groups are their cruise missiles. Ever longer ranges and now hypersonic. But how do you tell a nuclear warhead tipped cruise missile from a conventional explosive tipped? You dont. No radar on this planet, nor any other device I have ever heard of can differentiate ....so do you think China is gonna launch cruise missiles at US (think Tomahawks on Baghdad) knowing that if we believe for a second that 1 of them might carry a nuclear warhead....we will unleash Hell resulting in nuclear holocaust.

Guess my question is:

Can a war between the 2 most powerful nations on Earth happen using only conventional weapons while both countries possess enough nukes to destroy every major city on Earth???

Probably depends on if governments are threatened with losing power vs losing just objectives.

Even if conventional munitions on land, nukes probably get used at sea and maybe on smaller island bases. It would involve cyber attacks shutting down power and and infrastructure on both sides. My biggest fear, maybe even an EMP nuke. Would we invoke MAD for an EMP attack?

Great question and I don’t have an answer. I just think the writing is starting to be written on the wall that a showdown is brewing in the future. Hopefully the US has someone like Winston Churchill who can see the growing military threat China poses.

A former commanding general of US and ROK forces spoke at my HS many years ago during the height of the Cold War. When the world thought Russian armor might roll across the German plains, he said the Peninsula would be the start of WWIII. Always stuck with me all these years.

Couple Pleads Guilty to Stealing Children’s Hospital Trade Secrets for China

A Chinese woman and her husband pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court on Thursday to conspiring to sell scientific trade secrets to the Chinese government and to wire fraud focused on research, identification, and treatment of a wide range of pediatric medical conditions.

Li Chen, 46, and her husband, Yu Zhou, 49, made the plea via video conference. The couple both worked at the National Children’s Hospital’s Research Institute in Columbus, Ohio, for a decade before being arrested in California in July 2019. The case was unsealed in August 2019 when they appeared in federal court in Ohio.

“Chen admitted to stealing scientific trade secrets related to exosomes and exosome isolation from Nationwide Children’s Hospital’s Research Institute for her own personal financial gain,” the Department of Justice press release on the case said. “They are charged with conspiring to steal at least five trade secrets related to exosome research from Nationwide Children’s Hospital.”

“Exosomes play a key role in the research, identification, and treatment of a range of medical conditions, including necrotizing enterocolitis (a condition found in premature babies), liver fibrosis and liver cancer,” the press release said.

“Once again we see the People’s Republic of China (PRC) facilitating the theft of our nation’s ingenuity and hard work as part of their quest to rob, replicate and replace any product they don’t have the ability to develop themselves,” said John C. Demers, the assistant attorney general for national security. “Far from being an isolated incident, we see the PRC implicated in around 60 percent of all trade secret theft cases. This continued economic belligerence runs contrary to the values and norms that facilitate the success of our industries and countering it remains among our highest priorities.”

UPenn Can’t Explain Mystery Donation From Chinese Company

Public records suggest that the Nice Famous Corporation, which funneled $3 million to the Ivy League school, is closely tied to the Chinese government

The University of Pennsylvania pocketed a $3 million donation last year from a mysterious Hong Kong shell company that is owned by a Shanghai businessman with deep ties to Chinese government officials.

The donation from Xu Xeuqing, who has no apparent connection to the University of Pennsylvania and was previously embroiled in a Shanghai public corruption scandal, raises questions about the true source of the money. Documents reviewed by the Washington Free Beacon show Xeuqing has close ties to the Chinese Communist Party.

Foreign money has poured into the school over the past few years with a significant portion coming from China. The Ivy League school received $61 million in gifts and contracts from China between March 2017 and the end of 2019; over the previous four year period, it took in just $19 million from Chinese donors.
