China Thread

Good. Lets see what happens.
At the same time, I thought trade imbalances were unimportant.

Lol, I'm guessing this is as close of an acknowledgement that the butthurt exhibited in this thread may not have been warranted.

What about the word "good" do you not understand? Lets see action, not words.

As Biden Admin Caves on Confucius Institute, Tennessee Moves to Pick Up Slack

As the federal response to Chinese influence at American universities falters, Tennessee is determined to pick up the slack by becoming the first state to ban the Chinese government-funded Confucius Institute from public universities.

After President Joe Biden scrapped a Trump-era proposal that would have required universities to disclose their foreign monetary ties, Governor Bill Lee realized that he needed to act quickly to protect the state's universities from Chinese influence. The Tennessee Republican introduced a bill in the state legislature that would require the public universities to sever ties with the Confucius Institute.

Cornell Students Call to Halt China Partnership

Students join profs to stand against lucrative China deal

Cornell's student assembly unanimously demanded that the university "halt" plans for a new joint degree program funded by the Chinese government, a further setback for administrators grappling with a faculty revolt over their close ties to the authoritarian country.

The university's student leaders have chimed into the faculty-administration row over a multimillion-dollar partnership with Peking University, demanding during a March 25 meeting that Cornell suspend the partnership and "reevaluate all current international collaborations" for compliance to ethical standards.

Steyn warns of China's aspirations for global dominance: They've reduced America to 'cheap, service economy'

In his "Fox News Primetime" monologue on Wednesday, Mark Steyn warned that China is aspiring for global dominance as Beijing leads New York City as the city with the largest population of billionaires.

STEYN: Beijing now has more billionaires than New York City. In the last year, the Chinese capital has overtaken the Big Apple to become the billionaire capital of the world. How’d that happen?

Well, take a look at your house: Everything in it’s made in China – not just the kitchen plates and the crappy T-shirts. We were told in the Nineties: Forget about manufacturing – it’s not economically viable for Americans to make widgets and clothing; but don’t worry, we’re gonna be the quote "knowledge economy". Then somehow China snaffled all the knowledge, so they make all our laptops and smartphones, and all the Huawei and 5-G stuff.

And because of that they’ve reduced much of America to a cheap service economy – baristas, Broadway usherettes, the night clerks at the convenient store, all the in-person stuff that got clobbered by the Covid a year ago. Oh, yeah, they also make our viruses, and they make the personal protective equipment that protects you against their viruses. They make our medicines.
