Jackson, also a good choice.. I was thinking Reagan because he was a good statesman and could rally everyone together with cooperation from across the aisle when he was on, he was on..I mostly meant it as a joke because of the Star Wars program, but we could certainly do much worse. I'd probably go with an Andrew Jackson or a Teddy Roosevelt.
And they already have the next gen multi-role capability stealth fighter on the drawing board to replace the F-35 at the cost of several billion dollars each. What war against what adversary are we preparing to fight with these unlimited spending sprees on fighter jets? I’m all for strong national defense, but we’re past overkill wrt excessive spending on new toys that no one else can compete against.

Seems like we need to quit trying to build overly complex Swiss Army knife airplanes and get back to the basics. A good air superiority fighter, maybe an attack plane along the lines of the F-18, and keep the A-10. Build a good workable airframe for each and then modular electronics that can be upgraded, but above everything else keep it simple so the damn things can spend more time in the air than on the ground being fixed. Recognize that the A-10 does good work and provide air cover so it can do the job, and quit the Mickey Mouse horse crap of building a plan that can supposedly protect itself but can't work low and slow enough to do the ground work.
