Chip Brown report: Texas A&M to the SEC

Meh. Not nearly on the same level as Nebraska, Texas, or Oklahoma. I don't see them getting good any time soon, either.

ditto. i do think, though, that texas a&m would actually have the potential to become an extremely powerful and competetive football team once in the sec if the stars aligned for them correctly. of course, for that to happen alot of things would have to work out in their favor including a swing in their recruiting battle with texas to the point that they start beating out the longhorns consistently for the top notch texas recruits.......and even with the longhorns in the pac-10, there's still an extremely small chance of that happening. more than likely, IMO, they would keep playing at a mediocre level with some good years few and far between.

I think Texas A&M can bring a lot to the table. Besides, expansion is imminent for the Pac 10 and the Big 10. Does anybody honestly believe that the SEC will stand pat at 12 while those two respective conferences expand to 16? Ofcourse not. A&M is a good addition and getting that huge institution is better for the SEC.

Actually in a TV market sense, this picks up the big Houston market. So the SEC will have Atlanta and Houston under their umbrella.

WOW...the PAC fans are starting to get ugly on A&M boards..."tell us why you deserve to be in the PAC(2MANY) when we could have Utah".

Kansas City spans two states... or rather its divided between two states.

Mizzou is about centered between St. Louis and Kansas City and thus gets airtime in both markets - U Kansas will only secure the KC market...from a media marketing standpoint Mizzou has more purchase power than U of K.

The Big 12 appears to be a sinking ship. While it would be very lucrative to pick up one or more of the Texas teams, from a strictly geographic standpoint it makes more sense to look at FSU, Miami, Georgia Tech, Clemson, UNC, NC State, and perhaps Virginia or VT as expansion teams.

But...this is all about money, so I would expect to see the (not so much anymore) SEC expand westward, as opposed to picking up teams in a market we already control.

The next couple of weeks will be very interesting to watch.

Go Vols.

Correct. The big one though (with the large population and all the professional sports teams) is the one in missouri

No way Fla or GA let teams in the SEC from their respective states. Their best recruiting pitch is rendered useless.

Slive has already said that the SEC will not be offering to FSU, Miami, Clemson or GA Tech.

Another SEC school's AD said he doubts the SEC will look to offer any ACC school.

VA Tech said they have had no discussions with SEC officials and intends to remain in the ACC.

I would look at TX A&M, Oklahoma, maybe Missouri to the west. (take 2 of the 3) and then possibly Louisville in the east and then another middle of the pack type school in a good media market.

IMO, Louisville would want no part of the SEC for two reasons:

1) They are currently irrelevant in football
2) John Calipari

Louisville is also a somewhat weak TV market (#50), so it wouldn't add much revenue or exposure.

I think we should take Texas A&M and Missouri and call it a day.

Just my humble opinion.

And move Auburn back to the East so we can renew the storied rivalry we have with them.

They reported on 790 the ticket out of Miami that Miami has had no discussions with the SEC and are happy where they are....Cross that one off the list...And from what I've heard pretty much cross most the ACC teams off the list...Go after West Virginia...Perfect addition to the SEC...Passionate fan base, Travels very well and very good in basketball.

WVU is in Morgantown. Do you know where that is?

Regardless, they don't add much of anything.
