I'm loving the thought of a meltdown right now in Gainesville lol. And they had a head start on us

I don't want to say anything positive about the lizards, but let's just say I'm glad he's not going there.

Right decision for Kelly. I have a feeling he would've bombed in the SEC (which is kinda why I was rooting for Florida to hire him). His personality is a terrible fit in this conference. UCLA suits him much better even if they pay less. Recruits will fall into his lap in Los Angeles. He won't even be in the top 100 famous people in LA, whereas he'd instantly become the most well-known person in Gainesville outside of Steve Spurrier. I think he has a better chance of success at UCLA than Florida; not because UCLA is a "better job", but because Florida just isn't the right fit.

Though, I am concerned that Florida might win the Scott Frost sweepstakes.

I would not gloat to much, odds are most schools looking for a coach right now will hire better than we do. UCLA is just the first!

Part of me is glad he didn't go to Florida and part of me wanted him to go to Florida. Personality-wise, he'd be a horrible fit there. He'd probably constantly butt heads with Stricklin/Foley/the boosters and never be on the same page. He evidently doesn't even like to recruit.

At the same time, assuming he could get some big time athletes via osmosis, and assuming his scheme is still competitive in college, he'd always be a threat to win the conference annually.

And I agree with LW - the true meltdown doesn't happen in Gainesville unless they also miss out on Frost.

From Swampgas...

Blame Kelly and his agent all you want, but bottom line, Stricklin couldn’t close the deal. And he made us look weak by flying all our leadership up to NH without a deal in place.

As much as Foley takes a beating here, he knew how to close a deal. See Meyer and Mac. Meyer had ND all over him. Mac had buyout issues, but Foley closed both times.

Stricklin is good at sending cute tweets, but the fact that he couldn’t close with a product like UF to sell, and no major competition out there (spin all you want, UCLA is a second rate program) is really troubling and a huge fail for a new AD in his first major test.
