id love to have him, i just dont think we will.

You don't see the irony in the fact you have argued on here for weeks about wanting a "pass first/true PG" and yet you would love for Chris Jones to come here. Jones is the epitome of a "scoring PG."

Could be wrong, but I think Jones can hold his own with passing. He averaged 4 apg while carrying most of the scoring load. He could possibly be more effective in our motion system if he wants to learn.

he averaged about the same assists as trae, less to, shot better %, and averaged more points all while being a better defender. id be an idiot not to want him.

he was asked to score alot so he did, but he absolutely could average 6 or 7 assists a game in a system with better scorers around him.

how is that irony?

id be an idiot not to want a guy like jones, hes hands down an elite PG, and not the type of player that you pass up. period. i dont recall suggesting that if you could land an elite level PG that you turn him away, did i??? i think the whole pass first thing came with me saying thats what id like to see trae become, because he seemed to have trouble finding that line in between. clearly chris jones doesnt have those same issues that golden does.

Bingo.

he averaged about what golden did in assists, but with a much better a:to. he was asked to score alot, yet still shot better % than golden, and still managed while pushing to handle the ball and not turn it over.

im feel pretty safe in saying that if he wasnt asked to be the go to guy, he could probably average 6 or 7 assists a game, and still not turn it over very often. while still shooting a great % AND playing great defense until the end of the game.

chris jones is an elite PG, and as i said above, isnt the type of player you pass up if you can land him. with that said, i still dont think we end up with him.

I'm confused why people say Forbes hates Tennessee. Common sense would tell you that he might probably be bitter but he doesn't come off that way. Ever since he left UT, the only really negative things I've ever heard of Forbes saying was in reference to Bruce and Mike Hamilton. All throughout the season he constantly showed support and followed the Vols and even applauded Martin for the job he did. Has he made comments or something about UT that I haven't seen? I'm curious.

IMO, Jones will go wherever Forbes lands but I don't think he would talk him out or prevent him from coming here if Martin recruited him.

Whatever happens (or doesn't) with Jones and TN will be more about Cuonzo's evaluation of Jones than Forbes being an obstacle. I just think Martin views Jones as a high risk (from an eligibility standpoint) and he he doesn't want to deal with that. You can debate whether or not that is a realistic approach in college basketball, but I think that's the case. Remember, Martin is a guy who spent the majority of his D1 coaching career recruiting for Purdue, a place that can't recruit kids who are margin academically.

I will just take that answer to be, no you don't see the irony.

I'm not arguing that. but my question is, would you call Jones a pass first or shot first PG?

Both and that's my point. He's an all around elite PG, that's all.

Which is why, yes while he scores a lot, id still love to have him. That's like the poster that said d rose is a shoot first PG. not fair, yes he scores a lot, but he also averages a high assist and great a:to. He does the passing, handling and defensive part just fine, it's just overshadowed because of the scoring.

So no, i don't see the irony, at all.

Memphis offered Chris jones apparently yesterday, and Memphis could use an assistant coach.

Package deal?

I thought that was the case, but according to a few people close to the program, Pastner won't touch Forbes with a 10 foot pole.

I was hoping that Forbes would get consideration for a Memphis asst. spot. Great recruiter.

When the NCAA interviewed the staff about the Craft picture wasn't Forbes the 1st one that went in? Just curious if he's gotten an unfair reputation now since he was the first one to not be able to ID the photo.

That could be it, although whether or not Forbes did that is just rumor, I think.

I have a feeling there may be some animosity between Pastner and Forbes. Doesn't seem like the shpw-cause would stop someone from hiring a solid assistant, especially when the sentence will be served and done soon.

Jones should wise up and make his own deal, separate from Forbes. What good is it gonna do Jones if Forbes is an assistant on his new team? I've always wondered what the other players thought of these player-coach or highly rated player-player's best friend deals. Seems like it would bring some animosity....

Hopefully he goes to a school I won't hear much about. I already feel like I've been watching and listening to the kid for 5 years...I'd seriously hate to hear his name often for the next 3.
