Chris Petersen steps down

Something to consider with Urban and Stoops recently stepping down.

How much money these guys make and how grueling college football is. You can so much money now and end up retiring early.
Urban’s most recent “stepping down” wasn’t his choice.

Pruitt should let him make his own hours, give him extra vacation, and bring him on as a low stress analyst.

Uh....Petersen would be one of the LAST people I would want to take the Alabama job. In my mind, he is one of the Top 5 coaches in the country.
Not Saban level recruiter tho. I know I know...Bama recruits itself, but it doesn’t recruit itself better than Saban. All that aside, Peterson doesn’t covet this type of job imo.

Many years ago, his son had (?) cancer, or a rare disease. It was widely supposed - never announced or confirmed as fact - that Petersen would never take a job far from the clinic that was successfully treating his son.

That was ten-something years ago. His son is fine now and in college. There is no anchor, if ever there was, tying Petersen to the Wash State/Idaho area.

Hey Pruitt: Pay him $35K to be a Vols consultant. Stat.

How awesome would that be to have Chris Peterson just hanging out at the football complex spit balling ideas with Chaney and Tee? I’m sure Pruitt would probably not like it too much, but from an x’s and o’s perspective that would be great.

I know he has a son with health issues. I wouldn't be surprised if that didn't have something to do with it.
Pretty sure that's what it's all about. Then you have total burnout. CFB is simply too demanding after many years.

Joe Mixon was the last straw. David Boren was forced out too.
If Mixon was the last straw, he would have never played. Stoops could have come back if he’d have wanted...he didn’t.
