Chris Walker wants to knock Tebow out!

agreed. tebow has proven himself to some degree, this kid has not. it doesn't come off as particurally mature to say such a thing. doesn't mean the kid isn't a great person.

I never said he wasn't a great person. I look forward to meeting him. Just watch what you say.

I mean really nobody ever said he was a bad kid or had poor morals. People are so sensitive these days.

i know you didn't say that. never meant to imply so. edit: I was trying to tell the woman who knows him that just because someone disagrees with what he says that doesn't mean we think he is a bad person.

It has nothing to do with cocky and everything to do with the bulletin board. I would hope that Chris would privately share intentions to knock Tebow out. In fact, I would expect nothing less. Part of the reason you come to UT is to knock the Florida QB out.

Part of learning to be a D1 college player is learning who and who not to trust with your words. It is simply a learning experience. From all accounts he is a bright kid with a bright future. He will be fine.

What does being cocky have to do with being a good person? He should be a little cocky considering he's a D1 athlete. But talking like that will give people a bad opinion of the speaker.

Of course I'm a fan! But that does not change the objective fact that Tebow is a big kid who loves ot run and take and give a hit. I mean, that's obvious.

Crompton ran over Landry and a Cal safety but I'm not writing that nonsense about him

Technically he's not even that. Love the enthusiasm but he needs to keep his mouth shut and do something while wearing a Vols jersey before he spouts off again.

justin, I don't think he needs you to tell him what to say. He has every right to make the comments he made. Personally, I appreciate the confidence and swagger of someone who hasn't even made it to campus. The guy asked him a question, and he gave an honest goal of his for next season. CWalk displayed what many have failed to do on campus in a while. I certainly won't have to worry about the confidence and enthusiasm he brings to Knoxville.

I really don't think it's bulletin board material.

I bet Tebow's pretty aware that UT's linebackers want to take him out...I'm pretty sure that Ainge is aware that Florida's linebackers want to knock him out.

I don't think he said anything inappropriate...he's a linebacker, and it'll be his job to hit the qb.

I don't care if he walks over to Tebow before the game and tells him he's going to knock him out...I just want him to back it up when he steps onto the field.

It is not what he said, it is who he said it to. My point was that he is not being cocky. He is just sharing info with people that may not have his best interest at heart.

droski,

FYI...

It is certainly my prerogative if I want to read the message boards as often as I like. I need the comic relief on certain most days. Chris Walker, thankfully, does not.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion and I will take it as such. Thank you.

It's only going to get worse once the kids sees the field. trust me. no matter how talented and driven he is he will not be perfect. I wasn't trying to be rude, just letting you know the realities of life in the digital age.

I've watched him play and he just ran over several LSU linebackers last year. He'll go pad to pad with Walker, if the opportunity arises.

It would be great if Tebow routinely tried to go pad to pad with linebackers who are trying to tackle him, now that he's the starter. Who's UF's backup going to be this fall, anyway?

I don't remember implying that Chris was perfect. In fact, he's far from it. That doesn't stop him from setting his goals high. He may never get the opportunity to hit Tim Tebow. He knows how hard it will be to play in the SEC. He knows how tough Tim Tebow and the other qbs in the SEC are. He watched him run over linebackers. He knows that he will have to work extremely hard at UT to even get a shot at hitting him. If Chris were not up for the challenge, he could have gone to a smaller school. He would have taken that same confidence with him. That being said, I would like to think that Coach Fulmer and Coach Roper would not have wasted their time recruiting him if they felt like he was not SEC material. Chris Walker has been taught the realities of life. He's not walking around in a fantasy world thinking he's going to set the field on fire in Knoxville. I guess we will ALL have to wait and see how it works out. Won't we?

Newton was QB at Atlanta Westlake and a four star recruit at that position by scout.com. Despite his size, he runs the 40 in 4.75 and heas a 35 inch vertical leap.

Here is ESPN's evaluation of him:

Newton is a monster of an athlete and huge pocket passer with deceptive speed and quickness. He looks like an athletic receiving tight end. Essentially we would describe him as a pocket passer with the ability to get out of trouble and make some plays with his legs when he has to. He possesses ideal measurables -- he has great size, is tall and well built and has long arms and big hands. Shows very deceptive arm strength. Release is high and over the top from the ear. He shows good touch on underneath throws and the ability to change velocities and crank it up. Shows good zip on the deep out route and gets adequate RPMs on his downfield throws. Can drive the ball downfield and shows good touch on the deep ball. He throws catchable passes and has a feel for leading his receivers. Extremely accurate in the short-to-intermediate range. He's an excellent athlete. Basketball player with power and strength. Has adequate feet. Shows good pocket presence and buys a lot of second-chance opportunities with his athleticism. He is a threat to take off and run. Will steamroll smaller defenders that try and tackle him. Has above-average speed and some elusiveness to make defenders miss in space. However, his release can be long and he will wind up at times and then just push the ball at others. Not sure if he can consistently beat the rush with his delivery. He is actually more elusive in space than he is in the pocket, and if cornered, he is so big that he may not be able to avoid quick enough. He reminds us an awful lot of LSU QB JaMarcus Russell, only Newton is a better runner.

Walker responded, "Probably knock Tim Tebow out. That's my goal because everyone is in awe of him and it's Tim Tebow this and Tim Tebow that. I just want that shot."
...was not attributed to it's source. I've no idea where it came from.
People who know me, know that I care less than a little for unattributed quotes. I do, however feel absolutely certain that coach Fulmer does not like to see such talk in print. If it is incorrect, I'm an idiot for taking the bait on something I usually do not bite on. If it is correct, it is frankly case in point why freshmen at UT are not placed in front of the media.

i don't think you are understanding me. I know NOTHING about how chris will perform at tenn. ALL i am saying is that even the best players in the country occasionaly get flamed on their teams messageboards and that it's not easy to hear this stuff if you know the people personally. come here and get upset if you like. i'm an outsider anyway. but i'm sure you will be welcome to post whenever you like. no one is saying differently. my brother was a star player at arizona and i intentionally didn't read the messageboards because when I did it would regurally upset me. so that is where i am coming from.

Your point is well taken. If it WAS in print it is not the message that I despise. In fact I embrace it. It is the disclosure to the source that I question.
