Cincinnati vs Memphis ESPN 7:30 EST

Even if Memphis had good success, the other team would have excellent success against their horrid defense.

Yeah, I will admit that their defense looked exceptionally poor tonight. Doesn't bode well against Ole Miss.

Honestly I didn't know Memphis had football fans...lol so suddenly they do and suddenly they hate UT huh? Figures .

Memphis fans absolutely hate UT, but it doesn't have very much to do with football. Just an inferiority complex in general. Their fans have been dormant for 8 years until now.

Even today you can walk into a random business or house here and they will have The Commercial Appeal front page of the 1996 UT-Memphis game (the only time Tiger High ever beat UT in football) framed.

Memphis fans are like Vandy fans. They'll disappear, after Fuente bolts. But I definitely think that we'd beat this team.

I still remember beating Memphis in basketball when they were undefeated and we were ranked 2nd. It was awesome. We beat them at their sport at the time. I can get why Memphis still clings to that UT victory

their defense is so trash but they are the best in the state bc they beat AAC teams? hahaha ok. They have given up about 1300 yards the last two games. Sure they won but that wont work all season.

I just moved to Memphis, and I went to the game tonight. I had a good time honestly. But I met a girl who works for a major advertising firm here in Memphis and she was telling me they've been talking with the University of Memphis. Apparently, people in Memphis believe UM deserves to be ranked. So they're working on a PR stunt for next Monday stating that the University of Memphis is the only ranked team in Tennessee. Honestly, I don't understand their obsession with UT. I had no idea we were rivals except maybe in basketball.

Not seeing it. They're pretty far down in the "receiving votes" section of both polls. Of course, they are pretty delusional.

Also, if UT beats UF we could easily slide in.

That's what I was telling all my Memphis friends. If Tennessee beats Florida this weekend, we'll be ahead in the pecking order. Good for them they're undefeated and they've beat Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Kansas, and Missouri State. Kansas has been the biggest team on their schedule this far and they're not good either. Being from Knoxville, I honestly don't understand the Memphis hate for UT.

I am from Memphis but don't live there anymore. Tiger fans have always had an inferiority complex when it comes to U.T.

I graduated from Memphis, so I like to pull for them, but the last time we played them at the Liberty Bowl and won by a ridiculous margin, me and my buddy and his wife saw the worst in Memphis fans. Here I am in the student section, clad in beautiful, bright orange amidst a sea of blue and some drunk Memphis fan grabbed and destroyed a sign a UT fan was holding in front of him.

Please, oh dear, sweet merciful God above, let an 8-4 or 9-3 Memphis and UT team meet in a bowl game this year. Let the title of "best team in the state" be taken on the field.

A lot of that has to do with the fact that the state has siphoned tax dollars out of Memphis for decades and pumped them into Knoxville while funding the University of Memphis like it's a community college. As if higher education simply isn't a concern for the western part of the state.

Like you said, it has nothing to do with sports.

It's a reflection of our state government that would sooner build a second Neyland stadium right next to the old one than make any significant financial contribution to the UofM system, which it so desperately needs.
