3K-5K per day for 6 days a week is some serious coin. I guess they averaged 4k per day for a month. That's roughly 90k. did they have another job for the rest of the year?

no, they worked all year around, i mean in Jan-Mar, it wasn't as busy at all.

i sold computers part time, and there were some saturdays where i made almost a grand in commissions. this was before Dell and gateway became such a hit.

and we've come full circle to my original comment.

Circuit City is horrible.
:good!:

I could never understand how they justified charging more than other retailers. Maybe they thought the ambience of their stores was worth it.

I never saw it that way.

I hate it for their employees, but they can blame it on Circuit City corporate greed.

i guess they thought they could sell stuff without having smart employees. today, most people research on the net before they go buy.

B and M's are going to have to realize that if they want to succeed, they're going to have to learn how to compete with online stores. The convenience of walking in to a store and walking out with your product is getting pushed aside by sitting around in your bathrobe and waiting for UPS or FedEX to deliver it.

I always thought that the brick and mortar record stores in the malls would hit hard (and a lot have been), but they still refuse to sell CD's at a reasonable price. I went to Knoxville Mall at one of the stores in there and they still wanted $20 or so for the Princ Sign O' the Times double CD...

These are the dinosaurs - the music biz is going to transform these guys right out of business.

iTunes recently (within the last year) became the biggest seller of pre-recorded music supplanting Wallyworld. The locals can't solve the variety vs. slow moving inventory issue let alone the transition to music files vs. music content packages (e.g. CDs).

Buyer beware. Circuit City did this with 100+ stores back in November and from what I have read you won't see any great deals.

I'll be heading over to CC later today probably, just to see if there is anything good going on.

It was probably FYE. How that place is still in business is beyond me.

the Best Buy on North Peters Rd. here in Knoxville has the original CSI Season 8 for $99.

My jaw literally hit the floor.

i went by CC today and they have most tv, receivers speaker 10% off. 20% off on cd's, dvd's and accessories. it was enough to cover TN sales tax. i talked to a manager about any betters deals and he said they can't go lower than the sale. i'd say in a week or they'll go down to 20-30% on stuff.

They might, but when Linens and Things was liquidating, they never really slashed their prices - they eventually just closed their doors with merchandise in the store up here. Do these guys have some contractual obligation that limits how cheap they can sell something for?

Yeah, I checked it out earlier. Nothing special, really. 30% off cables, but you can still find them much cheaper on Monoprice.com. Most of their things are still marked up so much that even with 20% off, you can still find a better deal elsewhere.

I saw a (non mac) desktop computer for a price > $1300 for the first time in a long time. Considering all sales are final, who in their right mind would buy something that expensive?

I almost had to vomit when I saw 24: Season One for $49.99 With even 50% (they offered 20%) off, you can still get it cheaper elsewhere ($19.99 on amazon). IMO, CC has gotten by on customer ignorance for the last few years. You reap what you sow. Good riddance.

I was in CC at 10 sharp and saw a 32" TVs on display/out of the box and one just like it still in the packaging. Asked the sales guy and manager for a deal if I could by both TVs together and they wanted to sell me both at 10% off the sales price (yes, even the out of box display).

I left after that...

That was it...

Pretty soon, Cat's records and McKay's will be dinosaurs.

Cat's maybe, but McKay's in Knoxville is either a gold mine or there's a casino underneath it. It's rare to see it's parking lot empty during business hours.

went to the CC on N. Peter's Road tonight and picked up an Xbox 360 wired Xplorer guitar for 10 bucks. brand new in the box. not much else caught my eye except a pair of Creative T10 speakers, but at $54, they're too expensive.

Along with the internet, Wal-Mart had a big hand in taking out Circuit City. In recent years Wal-Mart has been stepping up their electronics department to also bump up the type of customer they have in their store.

Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. make a lot of money off of the warranties they sell customers. I know personally because I got talked into a 4 year one with my notebook. Anyway, knowing this Wal-Mart made their warranty prices very competitive versus BB and CC. Therefore, CC was getting slammed from more than one area.
