Clemson's Success & Butch Jones

It's clear that you have an agenda and don't really care about anything else. Then you throw it back by saying people are dumb.

Dooley had the better players, and you know that. But it doesn't fit what you want. I am tired of people who are so emotional about it that it has clouded their judgment. Happy 2017 to you!

My only agenda is to see the Vols compete for championships again in my lifetime. Butch had everything set up for him perfectly in 2016 (year 4 I might add with his roster of his players) and he blew it. I understand that some are gun shy and think all change is bad. I am sure there are some Bama fans who were afraid of firing Mike Shula. Sometimes you just have to cut your losses and move on. I can tell you're a true fan and will be just as supportive of the next head coach as you currently are of Butch. So at some point in the not too distant future we'll be on the same page. Until then, keep on keeping on and try not to be one of those boring people who lashes at with ad hominem attacks against people they disagree with.

I always get a chuckle when the word agenda is thrown around here.

I respond to people who find a means to their end. It's that simple. In your eyes, he can't do anything correct. He has done a lot of good for the program. Has he disappointed? Sure. But he isn't going anywhere and to bellyache about it is pointless. The grass is not always greener. If you could tell me that we could hire Nick Saban right now, then let's do it. But we can't, and we won't.

You are exactly the type that can dish it but not take it.

And Dooley beat him head to head. So there's that.

Weak argument.

I will say that Butch needs to recruit at a Clemson level if he ever wants to win the SEC. They are more skilled across the board than we are, by a longshot. And they are pretty well coached, if they ever discover the Bama magic workout portion....

Dabo did not inherit the mess Butch did, and if any recruits went there or any other school that only means that UT was not their favorite school in the first place. A study done a few years ago revealed that 80% of recruits end up in the school they have always liked. These kids grew up in the Fulmer, Kiffen, Dooley time period...more than likely they never were Vol Fans any way. Butch is a frog's hair from putting all this together. However, the toxic nature of this fan base keeps a lot of athletes from going to UT. Volnation is mention several times by media and Coach Jones.........so some of you are directly responsible for recruits picking other schools over UT. If you think it is the coaching staff..........Jones has improved more than many NegaVols.

So Jones is a frog hair away despite volnation costing him recuits.

The rise of Clemson spells out the end of Butch Jones at Tennessee. Butch made his living the past 4 years on strong recruiting but we saw this year that Clemson went into Temnessee's backyard and took what they wanted.

Tee Higgins, Hunter Johnson and Trevor Lawerence might only be the start of the damage Clemson can do to Tennessee's recruiting.

Recruting is one of the only thing Butch has going for him. Without top 10 classes he doesn't bring much to the table and won't last much longer.

If Clemson beats Bama...

Mariah Carey failed almost as much as this post.

I can't see why so many fans have discounted the injury bug that kicked UT's 1s and 2s out of playing or they played injured......did you not see how well they played once some of the players were allowed to heal? the LB played was 100% better........I like Jumper.....but he lacked speed and had too many MAs.

Apparently, you haven't studied the UT roster or recruiting history. Clemson pulling recruits not good, but UT always goes where it needs to. For example, if SC shored up w/ Clemson? We go to NC and VA or DC area. UT spends, and will continue to spend most on recruiting because we have to. TN population growing is certainly good for us, but also means more folks are going to pull out of TN. IF we continue to trend up, we'll lock up our fair share.

So Jones is a frog hair away despite volnation costing him recuits.

Engaging some of these posts is like trying to talk politics with Millennials. There is no gray area, just a black and white ends justify the means perspective coupled with a willingness to ignore hypocrisy and blatant falsehoods so long as it supports their POV contrasted by an unwavering intolerance and hostility towards any opposing opinion.

yes.........despite popular belief, I think he does as good as anyone in the development of players, but now these recruits are going to other schools.......I lay a lot of the negativity on many posters on Volnation......they have given Tennessee the worst reputation in the country..........why would 5* and 4* players come to a toxic environment like UT? until many of you grow up........expect 2 year development time of 3* players.

I don't see anything wrong with the Offensive or Defensive play calling, but you can't put 274lb DL against 300lb+ OL.......injuries killed Team 120.......but I am proud of what they did against Nebraska.

And I thought the Chip Kelley thread was going to be the dumbest thread of the day. How do some of you come up with this?

This may just be a point where we'll have to disagree but I cannot attribute the SC and VU losses to injuries. IMO, our staff just got plain outcoached by people playing with equal or lesser talent.

Fair.........we'll just disagree. I think the injuries were bigger than Butch was willing to admit.

Agree, I like this coaching staff, for the first time in many years they bring a lot of respect to UT.......I just don't believe a team just jumps up and starts being a bad team. I think Hurd and a couple of others brought down morale.

I ll call BS on that.

If he's developing players like you re claiming he won't have a problem drawing elite talent at every position with. His recruiting issues are not on Volnation no matter how good you feel about him or how much your feelings are hurt when his ability is questioned.

Just to clarify. What is he a frog hair away from doing exactly?

I'm going to try and give you the last word after this one but I just listened to Doug Matthews this morning state on air that in his learned and experienced opinion our staff has not done a good job developing players. You may believe something different but the product on the field and our own experts suggest that you are incorrect.

Was this thread needed? Couldn't the Butch bashing have been accomplished in one of the other 50 threads that it is occurring in? If not, please continue because I will have ignored this angry hate fest. Yall should just enjoy the bowl win and relax for a few months. Let the recruiting cycle play out and see what coaching changes happen before we declare UT Football kaput.

We need a wall.

Who's gonna pay for it though? The Mexicans are already tapped to pay for the wall on the southern border. It would be cheaper to dig a pit and line the bottom with sharpened punji sticks made from old toothbrushes.
