The defense didn’t play great in those games but both of those losses can be attributed to the putrid offensive performanceThe bar must be low if you can be awarded for putting forth the defense we saw Saturday against Mizzou. The real headline should read" Missouri running back sets record for total yards in a game--- Vols defense coach credited for stellar defense "
Here's another " Bama scores 28 unanswered points in 2nd half-- Vols lucky to have turned around their defensive struggles from the past "
The only Tennessee coach to win that award was David Cutcliff in 1998 and he was a finalist in 1997. Alex Golesh was a finalist for this award last year and for good reason. In my opinion Banks' agent knows the optics are not good, have not been good over the last 3 seasons and is leveraging a meaningless nomination for additional buzz and hype.
Defensive total offense given up this year to opponents that matter, Florida 349 yards 29 points, South Carolina 333 yards 20 points, Alabama 358 yards 34 points, Kentucky 444 yards 27 points and Missouri 530 yards and 36 points, current conference record 3-3, number one team in the nation here this weekend.
Our defensive backs are just as bad as his first defense at Tennessee was. I know there are injuries but at full strength we are still very bad athletically and schematically. Our only good defense is when we get to the qb with our rush.I will be the first to give Banks some credit. His Defense is really good on 1st and 2nd down.
If that is your only gripe about our defense you didn't watch the Missouri game.My ONLY gripe with our defensive staff is our lack of recruiting in the secondary. Everyone wants to jump on Martinez, but playing CB is a tremendous amount of technique, but more so about the skillset of a dude playing the technique.
Well, let me take a crack. Mizzou out gapped us and overloaded us to the boundary, since we set our star (nickel) to the field. When we responded by loading the box and suffocating the interior gaps (a,b,c gap) they pinned our edge on a half roll and got outside of our pass rush.If that is your only gripe about our defense you didn't watch the Missouri game.
Zero adjustments were made to stop their RB going Heisman from the beginning to the end of the game.
ZERO.
Be better.
You should know by now people here that are sitting on their couch at home are smarter than people who actually study footballIt's amazing how Vol "fans" want to fire all the coaches, but the coaches get accolades from people that study football. Who knew most of the VN experts didn’t know anything.
That’s a head-scratcher
