Coach Banks (for the third time)

The bar must be low if you can be awarded for putting forth the defense we saw Saturday against Mizzou. The real headline should read" Missouri running back sets record for total yards in a game--- Vols defense coach credited for stellar defense "
Here's another " Bama scores 28 unanswered points in 2nd half-- Vols lucky to have turned around their defensive struggles from the past "
The defense didn’t play great in those games but both of those losses can be attributed to the putrid offensive performance

I don’t think you have to prove he’s average. He is average at best. Misery game was worst defensive performance since sunseri.

Injuries have depleted the defense in areas they couldn’t afford to take a hit. Coaches can always do better, but beyond the DL this isn’t a talented bunch.

I hope Heupel doesn’t listen to the fan base on hiring, firing coordinators unless he wants to collect a buyout. Bob Shoop’s scalpel should be hanging in the locker room as a reminder of what the fans wanted.

The only Tennessee coach to win that award was David Cutcliff in 1998 and he was a finalist in 1997. Alex Golesh was a finalist for this award last year and for good reason. In my opinion Banks' agent knows the optics are not good, have not been good over the last 3 seasons and is leveraging a meaningless nomination for additional buzz and hype.

Defensive total offense given up this year to opponents that matter, Florida 349 yards 29 points, South Carolina 333 yards 20 points, Alabama 358 yards 34 points, Kentucky 444 yards 27 points and Missouri 530 yards and 36 points, current conference record 3-3, number one team in the nation here this weekend.

Please go see your counselor before you post again. You are truly some kinda CRAZY. You think the Frank Broyles Foundation is going to risk its reputation and legacy to help Coach Banks agent pull a PR stunt?
🤣🤣🤣🤣
You really need help if that's where your mind takes you.

I will be the first to give Banks some credit. His Defense is really good on 1st and 2nd down.
Our defensive backs are just as bad as his first defense at Tennessee was. I know there are injuries but at full strength we are still very bad athletically and schematically. Our only good defense is when we get to the qb with our rush.

My ONLY gripe with our defensive staff is our lack of recruiting in the secondary. Everyone wants to jump on Martinez, but playing CB is a tremendous amount of technique, but more so about the skillset of a dude playing the technique.
If that is your only gripe about our defense you didn't watch the Missouri game.

Zero adjustments were made to stop their RB going Heisman from the beginning to the end of the game.

ZERO.

Be better.

Well, let me take a crack. Mizzou out gapped us and overloaded us to the boundary, since we set our star (nickel) to the field. When we responded by loading the box and suffocating the interior gaps (a,b,c gap) they pinned our edge on a half roll and got outside of our pass rush.

This, along with some busted coverages where our CB trapped the flat, but our safety rolled to the middle 1/3 of the field instead of matching the #1 WR wide allowed for a major play. Then, what appeared to be a simple RB out route that gained a gigantic chunk by #7, occurred because our Star carried the route inside and didn’t exchange the route or pass it off to the LB matching the #3 WR.

So, I might be wrong about my gripe, but I did watch the game and our defense did make adjustments. We, however, sucked. I reckon you think we should’ve just played “Engage 8,” would’ve solved everything.

He could be up for the award of how to botch a 3rd and long consistently, but he is hell on first and second downs for sure.

I think for better or worse Heupel is going to give Banks time to get his players in and build his defense. Banks has pissed me off a couple of times in his time here like Carolina last year or Missouri this year but the defense has consistently improved each year since he’s been here; we just want results faster.

It's amazing how Vol "fans" want to fire all the coaches, but the coaches get accolades from people that study football. Who knew most of the VN experts didn’t know anything.
You should know by now people here that are sitting on their couch at home are smarter than people who actually study football

That’s a head-scratcher

You're only as good as the players who execute the play. The defensive backs are trying to be good, but at the end of the day, the results indicate it is not good enough.

I love UT, but the defensive backs have been a liability for as long as CJH has been there; I don't know the answer, but maybe CJH does, and in the off-season, this can be corrected in the portal, or a new defensive back coach is needed.

The offense has the same issues, and The OC is too inexperienced and not very creative on play calls. I am confused about this piece since it is CJH's offense, are the WRs just not getting separation?

What say you?
