Coach Butch Jones tests 'sharpness' of Tennessee Vols team | timesfreepress.com

In the second series for the starters, Howard dropped a potential touchdown, and the offense settled for a field goal.

some miscommunication on a substitution caused confusion as the clock ran out.

"We just lost the game," Jones told his team.

On 2nd-and-15 from the 40 with 22 seconds left, Worley narrowly missed completions to Jason Croom twice and Howard once, and Michael Palardy was short and right on two attempts at a 57-yard field goal.

With 1:18 left on its own 41, Worley found freshman receiver Marquez North for 25 yards before an illegal procedure penalty and a sack backed up Tennessee's first-team offense.

Peterman completed passes to Pickett and Croom, who failed to get out of bounds, but Jones called the delay of game penalty the quarterback induced a "catastrophic mistake."

The Vols attempted to run its field goal team on with the clock running down, and the kick was low and blocked by the middle of Tennessee's line.
Signs of a 4 win team. :ermm:

Sorry for the dumb question, I've been swamped with work and I'm woefully behind on the (FINALLY) upcoming season, but which unit seems to be ahead so far? Offense or defense? Also, which position is most likely to surprise, in a positive way? Thanks for keeping a slacker in the loop!

Neither.

Or both.

The O has no QB or game-proven, game breaking R's; the D has no corners and no pass rush and returns a tone of players from a dismal D from the previous years.

So you tell me.

I really like the fact that cbj is putting serious game like pressure on these young men. Seems like last year the scrimmages were...soft...for a lack of better words. Now fix those mistakes Vols and move on .
GO VOLS!

No I expect exactly as they are performing.

Average at beast.

I've also noticed you have never posted anything positive. It will be ok. Calm down a bit. You have no idea what will happen or who will emerge. Can't really say someone sucks or isn't a playmaker if they haven't had their shot yet. Are we great? No. Are we as bad you make it sound? No.
