Coach Cal and UK

Please, Tubby cant coach jack squat.

Well, it's good to see the idiot influx here isn't completely the fault of our fanbase.

Tubby Smith didn't go 10 years without winning an SEC championship. It's a ridiculous comparison.

Again....just winning in the SEC isnt good enough. Tubby didnt have it. Its about the Holy Grail (National Title) I understand that is very hard to do...It must be built..Tubby got complacent and started taking 3 star players left and right and some projects lower than that.

Tubby's done what Cal hasnt though

Two major differences off the top of my head:
1. Tubby didn't pander to anyone and that eventually led to his exit.
2. Tubby has the deep respect of his peers.

Tubby just took the golden gophers to the NCAA Tourney, he is successful wherever he goes, dude can coach. Cal has always had talent, but blows it in big games. UT/Memphis, Natl'Title, MIZZOU.

+that UT game in Memphis.

Yeah, that game was huge. Look at how it propelled UT to a more successful season than Memphis. Oh, wait.

Get off your high horse.

Nowhere in his post did he compare the season's end results.

Just about every major sports outlet described that game as the Game of the Year. That game was huge in its own respect. Its a Classic 1 versus 2 battle. Bitter in-state rivals. One of the largest television audiences ever for a college b-ball game. Please don't be so naive as to think Cal didn't realize the importance and the grandeur of that game.

The season results are the same regardless how you want to look at it. Both went home as losers in the tourney, regardless of when.

Simply because your beloved, undefeated and top-ranked, coach got beat, at home, by the team you supposedly cheer for and the very coach you loathe doesn't mean you should degrade someone else's post.

Temper Tantrum anyone???

Are you describing your own post and asking for others to join in?

Sure. :)

Yeah - lookin back - I guess I vented a bit.
Certain posters on here can't contribute anything meaningful at all without attempting to bash others with a different opinion. Hat appears to be their leader.
Its just gets annoying at times.

I can assure you though that my panties are not ruffled!

But I stand by my post - That Tenn-Memphis game was a huge game in its own respects. For anyone to deny this is Idiocy.

We won that game. If it was so momentous, as. Regular season game, why have we gone nowhere but south since it finished?

We are talking about the actual game. Notice I said "in its own respects". Noone is discussing what happened afterwards. Yeah, Tenn has played subpar since. But that is not what is being discussed.

So - if that game is so meaningless and worthless, why even play it?

So being momentous in and of itself means it was simply another game? It marked a high water point for us? It started a slide? I'm just not sure what it meant.

For a Tennessee Program with the history that it has in NCAA Basketball, this was one of the biggest games in that history. Perhaps not THE biggest, but one of them. Especially since it was an out of conference game against a top ranked opponent on their home floor.

But, unfortunately, as you stated, they have had a bit of a slide since then. We will see how this upcoming season goes and hope they start rising again.

Are you kidding? The rest of America thinks Tennessee won the national title by virtue of that victory. Most people don't even consider Kansas' championship to be legit. They see the winner of a regular season game in February as being the true victor. Don't you recognize the enormity of that game? It's not like there have been a whole bunch of 1 v. 2 regular season matchups over the years. Oh, hold on a minute.

Again - We are discussing Tennessee's basketball history. Not the History of NCAA basketball. You can skew this topic down a path to where you have a legit argument all you want. It still doesn't change the FACT that game was one of the biggest games in Tenn's (not all of the NCAA) history.

I don't mind repeating myself at all, but I would like to say "Reading is your Friend".

But - to touch on your off-topic post - In recent memory - can you tell me a 1 vs 2 regular season matchup that was hyped more and watched by more people than the Tenn vs Memphis matchup?

I'll hang up and listen for your response...

Look how important the NCAA Selection Committee thought that game was. The winner was given a prize #2 seed. The loser was relegated to a mere #1.

Wow! You are correct. The NCAA did use that ONE game as the lone selection criteria. The remainder of the season played absolutely zero role in their decision. I forgot.

I would certainly hope that a team with only 1 loss would have gotten a #1 seed over a team with 4 losses.

You seem to forget that Memphis was not given a #1 seed INSTEAD OF Tennessee. I believe it was either UCLA or Kansas that got the "4th #1 seed". So if any team got the nod over Tenn it would have been UCLA or Kansas, NOT Memphis.

Everybody needs a good vent from time to time.... :p

This is what he means and should have said from the beginning. Give him a break, guys. He's saying it was one of the bigger games in Tennessee history, mainly because we don't have much. I'm not sure; tourney games are obviously more important because you gain much more with a win, but we did make a pretty big national statement in the Memphis game--for whatever that's worth (which may not be much, but I guess it gained us respect). Regardless, though, Calipari has coached in and won much bigger games than that one, no matter how big that game was for Tennessee. So, the fact that we beat him in that game doesn't make him some kind of choke artist as a coach, and I'm not really sure how that's even possible.
