Coach From That School in Nashville

If you want to talk about "dreadful academic performance by UT athletes," you at least have a defensible argument, although I would challenge you to produce empirical data supporting that conclusion and, more importantly, data illustrative of their performance vis-a-vis their peers at sister institutions in the SEC. As for the university as a whole, you are grossly overstating your case. UT is a mid-tier state university, nothing more and nothing less, but that certainly doesn't qualify as "dreadful academics." Indeed, admissions standards at UT have increased significantly in recent years, which has become a bone of major contention between the athletic department and university administration.

Dreadful academics? Really?

He's unaware we've got some global top 5 programs in things like logistics. Our business school is one of the best in the east. Let him circlejerk around in his own dysfunctional world.

Wow, and Vanderbilt has a stellar baseball team!

UT's stride towards better academics has them ranked #101 overall on USNWR. Vanderbilt is ranked #17.

If you think that Vanderbilt's athletic department or football program is #101 overall, you're absolutely delusional.

Face it; James Franklin brought up a legitimate point in his trash talking... which, of course, makes it good trash talking.

Wait, you take the US News reports as gospel? Our chancellor does and people are roasting him for it. You're a bigger tool than I thought.

You realize that other rankings are even less favorable towards UT's academic status and more favorable to Vanderbilt's, correct?

It's alright, though. Using the logistics program to back up your claims abou UT's academics is as silly as using one specific sport to bolster Vandy's athletics.

If Vanderbilt is dreadful at athletics/football, Tennessee is dreadful academically.

Just make sure your guys at Vandy don't screw up the surgery our athletes need from time to time in their professional careers.

Please, correct me.

Explain where I was wrong in saying that, and I quote,

"No one in the SEC can offer the combination that Vanderbilt can."

I'm sorry you, as you've so eloquently put it, "butthurt" that you can't.

Are you arguing you have elite athletics because of football and baseball?

And Vanderbilt girls are hideous. Period.

Vanderbilt acedemics? I seriously doubt people on the football team are majoring in the things that make thier acedemics highly ranked. They are taking "Sports Management", "Communications", and "African American Studies", just like 98% of all D1 Football players around the country.

BS. They're all doctorate students.

Not a Vanderbilt fan, just someone who recognizes that Vanderbilt is, and I'll stress this again so that you may be able to better retain the point, academically the best school in the SEC.

I'm guessing that the Tennessee logistics program isn't Top 5 globally in reading comprehension.

I haven't been able to tell where you're coming from because you're all over the place.

You just asked me to prove that Franklin was wrong about Vandy having the most to offer in the SEC, so athletics are part of that. Academics? Nobody's arguing that Vandy is the best, but implying that Tennessee is awful is absurdly asinine.

We are arguing that Vandy has more to offer than anywhere else. They don't. A flash in the pan football program with a baseball team that's above decent plus great academics doesn't an awesome all-around experience make.

Not to harp on the reading comprehension thing with which you're clearly not very proficient, but please tell me where James Franklin or I said that Vanderbilt has the "most" to offer in the SEC?

Oh, that's right, neither of us said that! We both said that nobody can offer the combination that Vanderbilt can.

Combination. Let that sink in for a moment.

Now, obviously, no two schools can offer the exact same combination. That's a given. But, beyond that, no one in the SEC can offer world-class academics and a reasonably good football program/athletics department. Granted, that's because no one else in the SEC has world-class academics, but the point still stands.

And, by the logic of claiming Vanderbilt's athletics are "dreadful," one must also posit that Tennessee has "dreadful" academics. Because, really, when looking at all the schools in America... isn't it completely reasonable to say that Vanderbilt ranks higher as an athletics department/football program than Tennessee ranks academically?

Everyone in the SEC has "world class academics" in at least one discipline.

He's done much more than sell Vanderbilt's product and the kids in middle TN know exactly what I'm talking about.

James Franklin is a pos manipulator who should be selling cars on Nolensville road. Finally we have some support here locally and leadership on the Hill, and these kids are finally seeing him for what he is.

Vanderbilt is a good academic institution. They are also really excited about their football program even though they haven't really accomplished that much.

Also, here's a news flash for those that wish to tout the Vanderbilt academic/athletic experience.

1. This is Volnation. This means that most of us are rabid Vol fans.

2. Most of us rabid Vol fans dislike Vanderbilt and James Franklin.

3. We really don't need any clever arguments to back up that point of view to anyone. That's just the way it is.

A degree is what you make of it. I have a UT degree and have 3 Vandy graduates among my employees, which includes my sister who has a HS diploma and does better than all 3 of those schmucks.

--Vandy Urologists lopped off a man's penis during a routine surgery years ago using an instrument a monkey could operate. I think he won 25 mil.
--Vandy Neurosurgeon head was chloroformed by a resident in the parking garage who was dressed up like a woman and pissed because he was barely going to make it.
--Vandy plastic surgeon and resident @ '97 was put in prison for murdering his girlfriend in a drug induced sex weekend and went to prison. I believe he is dead now, but not sure.

As I said, a degree is what you make of it.

I absolutely agree with you. In the end, a degree is just a piece of paper which guarantees absolutely nothing. And, unfortunately for some athletes, the degree ultimately yields nothing at all.

But, ultimately, it is easier to succeed if your degree comes from Harvard as opposed to University of Montana Western.

About 15 years ago, a Vandy surgeon left an instrument inside one of my neighbors during surgery. He was left paralyzed for several years but has regained the ability to walk. He won several million dollars in his lawsuit.

Yep. Those Vandy grads are just better than the rest of us.

There is Vandy's problem. They want to be Harvard Monday through Friday and Alabama on Saturday. I believe that quote was from Bear Bryant so this is nothing new.

That's a great quote and they're sure as hell no Alabama (or, for that matter, Harvard).

However, you can't fault them for trying. Stanford certainly has no problem being a Top 10 school both academically and athletically.

I'll assume, for your benefit, that you misspoke. His "trash talking" involved putting down and calling out an 18 year old football player because he committed to UT.

Let me repeat: The head coach of a university's division one football team publicly insulted a high school kid, because he didn't pick Vanderbilt. It's classless and pathetic. Although, not quite as pathetic as your defense of his tweet.

now in Franklin's defense, this is all speculation.
