Coach Hype Monday Presser

Heupel pretty much confirmed the rumors. Now the question is can the coaches get the team back on track and have them remain focused for the next two games.
I took it also that Heupel confirmed it was definitely not an injury and EITHER academics discipline or other internal discipline related.

Just recalling...... wasn't there a video of Banks and Mitchell jawing in preseason one year? I'm aware of how things go in camp and all that but maybe Banks' "leadership style" or challenging of teammates crossed a line.

Just a thought, not an indictment, because emotions fuel the fire but sometimes chippy and chirpy can get out of hand.

Because the defense clearly protested him not being allowed to play and mailed it in. That tells me they didn't agree with the decision or the punishment.

Edit - And if it isn't fixed we will get throttled this week too.
If that's the case he should revoke every last defensive scholarship.

Chirpiness can definitely get out of hand. I've seen it too many times.

Combine that with lots of press coverage of our highly explosive offense vs our more mediocre defense and you have a situation where the defensive leaders and offensive leaders might be a bit edgy toward each other.

Again, speculation, but as our ranking and national press coverage has increased, I could easily see some edginess between the O and D over who is carrying the load.

Rattler had the game of his life. They have big athletic receivers. Two of our DBs left injured. Our defense is bad enough with everyone healthy.
Thankfully they have addressed this class with some quality DBs from a ranking perspective. Still not sold on Martinez to develop them though

Not sure why he needs transparency at all. If it has been handled and taken care of, why does he owe anyone in the media or fanbase an explanation?

I've never understood why fans have this entitlement to know everything that happens in the locker room.

If Hype says its handled and taken care of, that should be good enough for the village idiots.
Fans pay their bills.
Yeah, discretion is needed with the inner workings of a college football team.
But why do you think coach as a presser every other day? OBLIGATION.

So yes. There's a bit of entitlement.

I think there's a factor or factors that the fans are not aware of and are not going to be aware of.

I’d add to that: if fans knowing in any way makes dealing with any issues more difficult, or even has potential to do so, fans should never know. Do we want to fix issues and win games or is our knowing details more important?

This problem with the secondary should have been noticed last spring and addressed accordingly....either try to bring in some better players and pray, or try to up-coach them. Hard to imagine being this point in the season and having players struggle like they did Saturday for whatever reason it was.
Yeah, the bowl game was an eye opener for the secondary, and some efforts should have been made to try to fix it for this season...

TV revenue (which is, in the last decade, due to SEC <coughAL &GAcough> success) pays the bills. Vandy hasn't contributed crap to the SEC in decades but still funds their program handily without fans in seats, etc.

We don't "pay the bills."

Tennessee Vols "Giving it time" since 2009.

So true but you forgot “we need time to recruit better players”. Apparently, Coach Banks system is so complex to understand that it causes players to become unresponsive on the field and unable to contain one of the worst offenses in the league unless they are 4-5 star talent. Not just anyone can stop South Carolina and by stop I mean hold them under 50 points, give me a break lol

Media time is written into coaching contracts..... Heupel is only there to get paid... He owes media and fans nothing in regards to what is going on in the locker room

We need time to recruit talent to consistently beat Alabama, Georgia and LSU. This should never be the case with teams like South Carolina, Kentucky and Vanderbilt.

I don't know how much money comes from all of that versus what ticket sales contribute, but if we win football games we will be on tv a lot and the seats will be full regardless of what the coaches choose to tell fans. If keeping the nitty gritty details away from us helps them do their jobs (win games) in any way, I hope they do it.

When TN is good, TV ratings go up. TN had some of the most watched games this year.

Definitely. There is no way on earth the team would phone in a game with that much on the line. We have slow DBs that can’t cover, and a line that can’t pressure a QB. We missed Banks. Hopefully things will level out this week.
Agree. And as a result of all of that, we have to play a zone that we obviously don’t know how to play. ( Mostly lack of talent but some of it is also poor coaching.) 10 yard cushions when SC needed 5 for a first down. Or giving up a 25 yard throw on 3rd and 20 in the middle of the field. Easy pickings for Rattler. Pick your poison. Man or zone. Either way for this defense, you’re done. They had been hanging by a thread all season and it came to a head Saturday night. I also agree that Banks’ absence made a huge difference. He is the heart of that defense. Pretty sure he wasn’t left home for stomping on a painted letter. If it wasn’t an injury or illness, whatever he did is on him. Really let the team down in a key moment and he should be criticized for it.

Each SEC school get about $55M from the SEC from various revenue streams but largely TV.

That's Vandy, who is seldom on national TV, to GA and Bama and TN who've seen lots of big-time TV exposure. It'll increase in a year or two to above $60M per team.

And yeah, I'm not interested in how the sausage is made. It's not a pretty process but it has looked really good on the plate this year.

Well, you can’t let the inmates run the asylum, either. If any player is willing to throw away a chance at a national title because a coach disciplines a teammate, the second player needs to go, too. Loser attitude.

Banks is at best an above average SEC player, we need to stop pretending Ray Lewis was not on the field. We should be able to overcome him not being on the field against SC. And by overcome, I mean hold SC under 40 points. It was an embarrassment and he should resign if he had enough self respect. If you can’t force more than one punt, regardless of personnel in year two against a middling SC team then how much time do you need to be able to get to that point?

Hey Coach, volfeeva, it was noticed, and efforts made to address it. We didn't then, and don't now, have the personnel to do anything about it. Perhaps next season, improvement of personnel or quality transfers will correct that.
