Coach Hype Monday Presser

There is a huge chasm of space between a top 10 defense and giving up 63 to an awful SC offense. No one expects this defense to be top 10 . It’s reasonable to expect it to hold SC below 40, much less 63.

Agree. And really, with how they have struggled to score, maybe we should even expect to do better than that. I mean holding that team to 30 doesn’t sound like the craziest ask, but who knows..

I Literally laughed that a guy crying on the net about not knowing what’s happening calls me a snowflake.
Ironic
It's funny, I heard he was out, wondered in my head, then went about my day.
Yet these people are turning things into a big deal with all sorts of rumors and are blaming Huepel for them not controlling themselves.

You could argue that, but you’d be mistaken. No shame there; it happens all the time.

I think you should look up “optimistic” in a hard copy dictionary.
So in your mind accepting anything beyond mid to lower SEC play vs our historical place as the second winningest team in the best conference isn’t acceptable given the size of our fan base and resources? We’re not Nebraska or Army, there’s nothing preventing UT from being at its historically great place. I know that’s an extremely pessimistic take but I guess I could be more optimistic and be ok with being on the level of Ole Miss. if you’re ok with that level of effort, I’d recommend pulling for Ole Miss. Really low expectation threshold and they have much better tailgating.

Again, you obviously didn’t take my advice to refer to a primary source.

No worries. I’m sure your outrage will cure everything. You obviously have more than enough of that for everybody.

Maybe you should lie down before you hurt yourself?

I’m not happy with the loss because this team and coaching staff are capable of great things consistently. I have full faith that UT can be second to only Bama, as I wrote above. Please tell me how that’s not optimistic. If I didn’t think we weren’t capable to preventing generationally bad losses like Saturday, I wouldn’t be this vocal about the loss. Your previous post doesn’t address any of that and just resorts to personal insults, which isn’t a refutation of anything I’ve said.

It’s tiresome when people put unreasonable demands on our coaches and guys and don’t recognize the achievements this year. It’s equally tiresome when certain folks resort to personal attacks when you recognize what a generationally bad flop Saturday was, as though it’s unreasonable to point out why this team and staff are capable of much better things. Same ol volnation where we can’t allow nuance.

The defense was overmatched. They got whipped repeatedly, and then they realized they were not going to win, they quit. Not sure why you think it was some kind of protest. Even if they thought something was unfair, there was too much on the line to play soft in protest. Your theory makes no sense to me.

The one thing hardly anyone is mentioning is and I have heard on here many times this defense is built to stop the RUN. Well guess what was missing from USC that night...their top TWO RB's.

So they stumbled into an offense game plan to run jet sweeps, swing passes, wildcat looks that gutted the defense. Had their RB's been playing I think we would have seen more up the middle pound and ground game.

Not saying this changes the outcome but dang it sure did expose the major weakness of this defense. I think with Banks we would have kept it close and got a couple more stops and had better chance of keeping the team upbeat and pulled that off MAYBE...

I think your analysis is correct. Whether by design or stumbling into it, they exposed our weakness in pass protection and lack of speed. Banks might have helped, probably so, but he isn't a 25 point difference. It was the back end that killed us.

Because the defense clearly protested him not being allowed to play and mailed it in. That tells me they didn't agree with the decision or the punishment.

Edit - And if it isn't fixed we will get throttled this week too.

We need to put in players that will give effort, even if we have to move some wide receivers to DBs.

Crazy idea but may work. At some point, I would have gone EA Video game and just bench the entire First team defense because they weren't doing anything to stop South Carolina. I am not sure if it would have been best move but I would have tried it.

A team already distracted by something going on in the locker room and you want to pull the starters?

That's called a coach completely losing the team because you're disrespecting them.

The SEC isn't EA Football. Players are human.

I was mostly joking but frankly it wouldn't have matter Saturday as we only stopped South Carolina from getting 7 one time. That is literally the same as if we didn't even have players on the field.

Nothing is settled. Heup said JB is working his way back this week. Watch Mondays presser. He may or may not play. Apparently you are not a TN football fan. If you were, you would be more passionate about the coaches resolving this issue and winning.

TROLL

I agree the defense was beyond awful.

The one player I would've taken out to talk with was Hadden who was running his mouth and getting pushy the whole game despite getting beat several times.

When the offense was on the field, I'd have had Banks and Martinez both telling him to settle down, focus, and do his job without all the talking. If he didn't "get right," he'd have been pulled.

That he kept it up even when we were far behind without apparent coaching is another sign something was not right with the team.
