Coach Jones.....

Just to play devils advocate on this....who the hell did you want to come coach here?! It's not like Bill Belichick, Nick Saban, and the Ghost of Bill Walsh were knocking down the door to coach here.....UT was turned down more times than a bed sheet during the coaching search.

So who should it have been?! I'm far from a blind Jones supporter, in fact I'm just as upset as anyone over this season...But this thread is just dumb

/Rant

EXACTLY Thank you my friend for this post. Some fan still THINK that we are high and mighty and get whatever we want WELL I'M SO FREAKING SORRY it does not work like that any more.

I said from day one.....

He didn't deserve the job.....he's all talk...bravado...hyperbolic.... rhetoric, and cute 'sayins'....he plays a 'coach' on TV and in the hearts and minds of those who either aren't very sophisticated in the area of critical thinking and or people who want something so so so very much that their blinded by the obvious.....

My concerns are and I'm not attempting to be hurtful just objective......he's not very intelligent....he's not a visionary......he's not genuine...he's a 'character' that he's learned to play and plays it well....

I will give him this....he is 'staying the course'.....keeping to the script.....showing no weakness....not letting us see him sweat or accepting any responsibility whatsoever.....he's also banking all the money he fast as he can....keeping his family out of the light and the community to limit the ' collateral damage' when the wheels come off.......brick by brick....brick by brick baby....

As much as it pains me... You might be completely right. Hes a high energy optimistic guy. And that's all great but you have to have some other characteristics. Is he a creative defensive mind? An innovative offensive play caller? Maybe he's a special teams guru. Unfortunately I've been dissapointed in the game day decisions just about every game. Worst of all... We seem to have a very bad case of playing to not lose. If we get a 1 point lead it's almost as if we're content to just take a knee. You have to try to capitalize on every opportunity you get, whether we already have enough the lead or not.

It is hard to be a competitive program if you have had the crap tn has went through happen. Low roster numbers multiple coachs, multiple ADs, and stupied scheduling. I think things are going to turn around recruiting is how it happens and we are doing good to this point. It would be hard for any coach to show great strides with the schedule we played. If we played vandys none conference we could be bowl elgibe or one win away. Fans need to chill, nothing happens in one year.

CBJ may be genuine, but 33-41 from 2008 to the present is tough to ignore no matter how you spin it.

And Butch Jones is responsible for 4-7 of that. Yes, it sucks but the last four years are not his fault. Seriously, our fans think we just need to fire someone at the first sign of failure. A program cannot do that.

Struggling late in the year. I would say that this year has been a disappointment for an Aggie fan. Ole Miss has 4 losses, but this year has been pretty good for them The point I was trying to make is that I prefer a HC with HC experience. How do you think Penn State has survived? Coaches with "big time" experience, i.e. NFL or major conference credentials make turn arounds with programs faster and maintain stability longer. Once again, that is just my opinion. CBJ doesn't have that experience, but I hope he turns things around. That is also why I think it will be year 4 when we see the big change, maybe year 3. He needs the time to gain experience and get our program back on top.

O' Brien was a coordinator in the NFL. Those don't always work out either- just ask Notre Dame. Jones has enough head coach experience to be successful. I am guessing Urban Meyer had about the same amount before going to Florida. Sumlin wasn't at Houston long, and Houston was in a worse conference than Cincy. There is no secret formula- you just have to hire the right guy. Sometimes, you get it wrong. Dooley was a reach hire. That was a bad one.

Well, you know, I kinda think, you know, that this is pretty, you know, accurate. You know?

If it "takes at least 5 years" he won't be around to see it.

You can't be real happy, given the state of your program, that it took a last minute, 92 yard drive to secure a comeback win vs the worst team in UT school history. Can you?

Vandy looked like crap no doubt about it! Only positives from that game is Vandy won and it was against the Vols in Knoxville. The game very much reminded me of the UT Florida game where it was one big sports blooper!

True. In the end we just have to hope CBJ is the right hire.

There is the problem. It will take "at least 5 years," and like you I'm not sure the fans or the University have the back bone to see it through. Thus keeping the team in a perpetual cycle of coaching changes and never getting anywhere. That is a very real possibility here.

This staff will get it together, gotta get more talent, speed and depth and that's on the way. Unfortunately rebuilding a program takes time, as in years, like it or not this is the risk taken when you run off a coach that has proven successful because of the "what have you done for me lately" attitude. Anyone that can sit here today and say they are still glad that Coach Fulmer was fired is just silly.

What on earth makes you think that? Jones was literally Dave Hart's second choice after Charlie Strong and he is a proven winner.

The blinding ignorance and stupidity that is consuming volnation right now is truly nauseating.

WRONG. Hart went to Jones after Gundy publicly and embarrassingly turned us down. Nice try though.

like mike"i'm a man.i'm 40"gundy would've done any better this year.it's funny how some think a certain coach could have done better with the rag tags cbj has to work with.there are only a group of 10-15 players that are truely giving their all for tennessee.can't wait til our 2014 class is on campus.go vols.....:banghead2::banghead2::banghead2:

its 50 50 and pickem, i just don't see us being good anytime soon. jones is doing a great job recruiting, but i said when he was hired i thought he was over rated as a coach. so far he has proved me right. i have a feeling if he does not change some assistants in the off season he won't be around long. i think if he had somebody that can run the offense and the defense he would be fine. the best staff in america is terrible just ask coach richt.

Give him 3 to earn a 4th. Let him recruit his players, see how he develops them, and go from there. Besides that, what else can be done? You want to fire him now and make that FIVE head coaches in 7 years?

i agree with this. nothing really can be done we have no money. i can honestly say though i don't think jones will have a winning season at tennessee, unless he changes his coordinators. they are terrible.
