She clearly didn’t want to win enough to call a timeout and make sure her defense was set.
Once again you sound ridiculous. Get out your feelings for a second and just be logical. She stated why she didn't call a timeout, because Dawn didn't have any timeouts left and didn't want her to set up a play. Rickea was supposed to back up and guard the three, which Kea didn't do. A player who has never made a three banked one in. There's the game. Get over it. We lost but almost took down the #1 team. Now go cry about the men's team getting their tails handed to them today and not making it out the first round. Fire Barnes lol. It's a joke. Don't fire him

Rickea was supposed to back up and guard the three, which Kea didn't do.
Which makes the defensive alignment even dumber. Why make her back up 15 ft in 1.1 second? Why not just start out there? Which was Kea's first instinct before Kellie backed her away. Actually both TK and Sara were much closer and in front of KC, had a much better chance to make a run after the catch. It was just a stats driven defensive call that out smarted itself.

I don't think she was supposed to guard the inbounds period. Plus I'm not saying it was the greatest coaching call, but it's not like Kellie said don't guard the three just kind of get lost in goo goo gaga land. Trust me I would have had every person guarded. I will say this, people have to be out of their minds if they don't believe that Kellie Harper didn't coach her ass off that game. If it wasn't for that last blunder of a play we all would be singing her praises. I don't lose sight of that. Just wish the outcome would have been different

I’ll go ahead and dissent, once again. I’ve only spoke to this alignment vs player once, that I recall. Court awareness, BBIQ, whatever you want to call it…
CDS stepped to the sideline and gave the game plan to any that would listen. She was pointing out positioning to Cardosa. From thirty feet away. Should have been pretty damn easy to hear. Unfortunately, we weren’t paying attention. Think Brady or Mahomes. Do you really think those two guys follow a cut and dry set of coached instructions? There is a plan, fer sure, but when evidence presents itself that the opposing team’s plan has changed, they’ve got enough “it” to deviate. Do you really want the players that dependent on Kellie for specific direction?

And didn't. Also a huge strategy mistake. Actually, guarding inbound was RJ's second instinct when KJH waved her away from guarding KC. But the video shows KJH backing her away from that and into no man's land in between. I do believe the intent was for RJ to try to get to KC upon the inbound, but that was never going to happen fm 15 ft away in 1.1 second. Would have been nice if she, TK, or Sara had at least made a step in that direction, but none could have gotten close enough to be effective. I give KJH absolute credit for the comeback, but the defensive strategy was just insane. Which everyone now painfully knows.

In that situation, absolutely I want them to align the way the coaches tell them. Esp bc Kellie had to hear Dawn also, she was up that sideline, and Rickea kept looking back at her for further instructions. There were none. Imagine if Rickea, of all players, went rogue and that ended up costing the game. A million misperceptions about her confirmed. Or TK charged out to pick up KC and she blew by her for a rim run?

LOL they might not strictly obey the next time, and who would blame them. But there has to be a level of trust.

Definitely did, and when the smoke of the ill-advised last play clears, hope KJH can stick w that ball screen and pick n roll offense they ran for Rickea in the second half. That worked like gold on the nation's #1 defensive team who we were playing for the 3rd time. Imagine it on a team that has only seen RJ on tape . .

On further review, I am not sure Kellie knew what she wanted. I think she got caught in an indecisive moment and might have even yelled contradictory instructions. I think Dawn putting Cardossa at the high post baffled her.
I think Kellie is a solid coach but she is not great on the fly. She needs a little time to think and compose and in the heat of the moment she did, unfortunately seem to freeze. That horrid look on her face said it all. I think you may have hit upon something that relates to some of the LVs struggles this season. I am not sure these players really have much license to improvise. Kellie may be a bit of a control freak coach who wants her players to follow instructions.

Can't wait for the first round victory so we have something else to discuss......

There is a point when we have to get over the loss to USC. The game is over we need to move on and turn our attention to the NCAAs.

If I didn’t know better some of the 100% CKJH fans that are always claiming anyone critiquing CKJH are terrible negavols are gloating about the loss by the UT MBB today, could they themselves be acting like negavols?

…hater reaction much? Steer back to center Dad… 😉

The results of the men’s game has little impact on the future course of the women’s program.

Specifically, Lucy’s opinions on the matter. Gotta love a sister, but sometimes you have to call them out. Personally? I think she busted a bottle of wine this afternoon… 😉

lol Adia Barnes @ 1.2 million lololollllllllll. cracks me up every time I see it. what a hustle.

Adia Barnes was a missed 3 pointer away from winning a national championship. It has gone downhill for her since then. Joni Taylor being in top 7 is laugh worthy.

Yeah Taylor is the most over paid coach in the country by a long shot. With a new AD in town she probably has 1-2 more seasons at A&M and then she’s gone unless they start winning a lot more.

They are not going to pay her that much money to have a losing record in the SEC, especially with a talented roster.

I actually think they had the third best roster in the league overall but they were a typical Taylor team. Underperformed offensively and star players did not improve throughout the season. My biggest knock on Taylor has always been her ability to recruit but failure to develop. She has had some extremely talented players that never got any better during their entire careers.

Barker is next on that list unless she wises up and transfers. She has enough natural talent, size and athleticism to be one of the top 3 players in the country. She is never going to develop to that level under Taylor.

And from the looks of this someone should throw a bag at Cori Close. Her teams are consistent enough and she recruits well enough I’m shocked someone isn’t trying to double her pay and steal her away from UCLA.
