I never said she said that, the person I was replying to said it and I said that’s not what the LadyVols do, that’s for mid majors not us.
I never said that Kellie called the SC game a moral victory. I said she used that loss as a teaching moment for the tournament. You are the one who kept saying "you don't believe in moral victories."

I pointed out that such a phrase is another vacuous sports cliche. If a teams loses a close game, what are they supposed to do, just fold up and die or try to take positives from into the next competition?

Refuse to accept misrepresentations and responsibility dodging!!

It all started when someone said how we finished the season strong and I said it was mediocre because of the 6-4 record. And then I responded to someone saying it wasn’t bad losing to Sc and I said a loss is always bad because it’s a loss. No don’t fold up and die, I like what Sarah said after the game, she said we loss to a team we know we can beat, and thats how I feel.

I did say they finished the season strong. They beat Vandy easily on the road (a game most expected to be close); blew out Texas A&M; beat KY and dismantled Alabama. In that stretch, they had 3 super competitive games with the best team in the country (including the woulda, coulda 3rd game). the only stinker in that stretch was against LSU.

Do you think if the LVs had been crushed by SC in all three games (as many feared), they would have gotten a 6 seed versus the projected 8? Pushing an undefeated #1 to the limits in the 3 games in a two week span says you are a very good team who has greatly improved from the mid season struggles,

that is not a moral victory but just a recognition of factual circumstances. Of course, it is all moot if the LVs don't make it to the S16 but their odds sure look a whole better than they did back in Feb (when they were on the bubble).

I just have a different mindset, 6-4 is average and we are Tennessee, I’ll always believe we have a higher standard and won’t act like we are a mid major program. Teams should be worried about pushing us to the limits and not the other way around, when u walk on the court with the best player u should expect to win and thats it. The LSU game I understand since they have a lot of firepower, and they had revenge on their minds against us. As for that undefeated team u mentioned, I won’t get into what I think about them but I’ve watched them play 4 games and I have a good idea on who I think they are, and I don’t hold them as this unbeatable team like most on here, I felt the same way last year as well.

Fair enough. My stance is that the LVs have not been "Tennessee" since Candace graduated in 2008. The very next season, the LVs lost in round 1 of the NCAAs to that powerhouse Ball State.

We are heading into 16 years of not being "Tennessee." You and others may have been the holding the "high standard" all this time but shockingly it seems that internet posts don't effect reality.

The LVs are who they are and have been for 16 years.

SC still made it to the final four last season and were defending champions and currently they are undefeated and the prohibitive favorite to win it all (also working toward a 4th straight final four)

They too are who they are and have been for the last decade.

Coming as close as you can to beating SC suggest that this version of the LVs has the potential to be more than they have been.

If the LVs lose tomorrow, you get the gloating rights but I am really hoping for the LVs to make some major noise in this tournament. I guess that makes me a "bad fan" right?

It's obvious to me that Volstylexx and Deebowbear aren't capable of getting into the spirit of postseason optimism and the desire to simply enjoy, and be happy for, every good moment we have left of the season. Guys like them can't stand to see people like most of us enjoying these last chances to watch them this season.

They exist to bring everyone down, so I'm gonna be proactive and put both of them on ignore for the rest of the tournament. I just hope not too many of their negative posts get reposted in quotes from others. Ugh.

GO LADY VOLS!
Must have missed the game thread where we were all proudly supporting the girls, eh? It's ok, I'm sure you were busy. I keep my negativity confined 99% to the Kelly thread... you know, the thread whose purpose is to discuss Kelly. I'm sorry you, and many others here, can't seem to fathom any discussion that doesn't support your point of view. If you don't like seeing criticism of her, I'd suggest staying in the main forum and out of the thread.... devoted to discussion of an underachieving coach.

I know I'll get ripped for this, but I think Kellie is just now learning how to coach at a big time Power 5 school. WCU was small and she did well. NC State was weird politics and I think Kellie was too young. She did a good job at Mo. St. and took over Tennessee at a chaotic time. She has been learning on the job. Ask Staley if success is instantaneous. It takes most coaches a while to settle in. Yes, I know Mulkey, blah, blah, blah. She had Natty's and a ton of experience under her belt. Not quite the same. Take a deep breath and hang on. Maybe Kellie is about to hit her stride. We can all hope. Time will tell.
Nice post and she can improve. Getting better players makes all coaches better. I do like we're we seem to be heading from 25 and on. Hopefully she continues to work local businesses to help NIL. In CHRIST Alone

Ya do wonder?
I admit I peaked at CJ’s post even though I have him blocked because I suspected I knew what he said based on your response. I have totally wondered the same thing. Darth, Styx constant hate for Kellie. Disgustingly snarky, constantly moving goal post. A lot of similarities.

Kellie No In person recruiting
IS Something No Othe fromer lady Vols basketball coach HaD to deal with

OR NIL
Kellie Not a Normal fiVE years of normal basketball season
Or Was the team In recruits mind's Like they Were after Tennessee won two
National championship few years before Holly Warlick . Got Seven years.
Kellie Harper Hasn't had A normal basketball First five seasons
Nor has basketball as all teams have had to deal with COVID-19/NIL
Kellie hasn't Had a
Fair Shot compair to Holly
Time and normal basketball seasons
Well let us look at Kara Lawson. She took on Duke while it was in the dumps, Covid killed her program for a year. She managed to recruit the portal and high school good enough to reach the Sweet-16 both last year and this year. After last year she lost 4 of her 5 starters. Again recruiting high school and bring in 1 portal player she beat Ohio State in the second round of this year's NCAA Tournament.

In essence, recruiting is what it is all about. There is no excuse for not being able to recruit both high school and the portal. No matter if it is NIL or the lack of the ability to recruit both high school and/or the portal. To be successful, long term, you need to recruit both.

great post Madtownvol we all hope for the best possible outcome for the LVs but we have seen in the past 16 years the sobering reality of that which is different than the positive noise on this forum

Does anyone here get the opportunity to regularly attend practices? Are they intense?

At this point it feels like this is just how Kellie plans to build her teams and have them ready for March. Schedule really difficult, have 8-12 losses every season, top half of the SEC and competitive come tournament time.

I can appreciate what she’s doing and appreciate that things might have been different without the injury to Jackson. But I have a hard time at this point seeing how she doesn’t realize the need to change up how she schedules.

Especially with Texas and OU coming to the league next season. We really don’t need to play a bunch of Top 10 teams in the OOC to have a really tough schedule. Play some good mid major teams and maybe 1-2 ranked opponents in the non-con.

We need to schedule teams we can still beat with a key player out. It’s just part of the game at this point, not just affecting us this season. You might as well plan for it a bit. This group without Jackson was never meant to win most of those games.

Long story short I think her teams need to find a way to learn hard lesson in practice instead of from losses. It’s just such bad optics and bad press all season, even if we do seem to come alive at the right time. That’s why I’m curious about practice. Videos always look really relaxed.

If you recall, in the preseason, posters on this board were criticizing for having "a soft schedule" with no Uconn or Standford. It turned out that Florida A&M was a better team than anticipated and Indiana and OSU were also stronger. With the transfer portal it is hard to know what team you will actually be facing when the season rolls around,

The LVs had a slow start due to RJ's injury but also Key being much slower to get into playing shape than (Fans and media at least) expected. Remember, people were condemning Kellie for even trying to play Key who was obviously never going to be fit. Spear took a while to figure how her role and we lost Destiny.

Coaches don't have crystal balls. Right now, it looks like the harder preseason schedule may be helping us. So, I think all bets are off until tomorrow.
