Coach Martin spent the first weeks of his employment talking to Harris and Hopson and granting releases. He knew the roster was depleted.

The fact he recruited well for Purdue is entirely relevant to the discussion. If he can convince good players to play at Purdue, it stands to reason that he can do the same at Tennessee.

Agree 100%. Im a Vol bball lifer I have been one of the few that went to every game regardless of coach or record all the way back to Stokely. Thanks to my dad thats what we did. I was skeptikal of Pearl Hire but his results were more than I deserve. I hate the way things ended and hope Martin can come close to pearls success but has his work cut out for him.

He took over the team and the cupboard was bare. He was able to bring the team back from the brink to a very successful season in 3 years. Mizz. St. was 25-3 Cuonzo's last season.

Sound familiar?

The year before Martin took over, they had a losing record in the Missouri Valley and finished 17-16 overall. The team Martin inherited at MSU makes the mess Pearl left him look like North Carolina. And it only took him 3 seasons to have them atop the MVC.

Zo took over a terrible roster and the team his first year was the worst Bears team I have seen in 25+ years of following the program. Coach Hinson did a decent job but was really benefited by a great 2003 basketball class in the state of Missouri (mostly local kids). He got 5 3 star kids from that class including 1 top 150 kid...3 were area kids and the other 2 from St. Louis. After those guys graduated the recruiting caught up to Hinson and really caught up to Zo his first year.

I wouldn't worry much about the class he had to get because as I told you guys before we signed 7 his first year and only 2 were on the roster the following season. Your staff will weed out who can and can't play at your level which is a catch 22 because we got hit with an APR scholarship reduction last year.

This guys right. The class is trash and we will become another Buzz Petersen school. I don't even need to give him "2 rebuilding years" I know he will fail with these players. These are Missouri State level players that no one else wanted. Bruce's coaching style was the only reason we got good players, not our pretty arena. No one wants to play for a sub .500 CM. You all are talking about how he turned them around in three seasons? Well who cares. Put them up against SEC schools and they get rolled. Get ready for three 15-15 seasons and people blaming it on the sanctions that are about to hit as the scape goat.
