Did I not just say he was walking around the UC talking to staff and students? Stop looking over things to prove YOUR point.

The poster obviously is still sour over pearl and want every coach we had to be like pearl. It's not gonna happen and in all honesty its kind of nice to not always be in the spot light, sometimes good things but a lot of bad publicity too we suffered as a result of pearl always being on tv.

The original poster probably is Bruce Pearl.

Didn't we move a part of the student section to the upper deck a few years ago? I had nephews that were students and kinda remember them being rather P.O.ed about this, but I don't know the details of which seats exactly were moved.

Wasn't this in an effort to sell those seats to donors to raise more money? Well....I guess that is a little bit of payback. I don't like to see my vols lose. It can be painful, but I for dang sure wouldn't sell my seat to anybody other than a Tennessee fan. I take it as part of my job to "Protect My House"...just like our players do.

I'm pretty sure this isn't true. Im pretty certain they get the end zone on one side a few sections beside it and that's it. I do remember for some big games in years past they made a section or 2 in the upper level for students because they had nowhere else to put them. They cant take away tickets thy are already sold to lower level holders, the upper deck was all that was available. But no, they haven't made it an actual section for students in the upper deck as far as I know. There haven even been enough students to fill up their allotted areas yet so we don't have to worry about an overflow, but yes if there an overflow they go to 300 as that's the only place left to put them. Not really any other choices here.

No endzones in basketball....but yes on Saturday there were the normal student sections along with a full 300 section above the student section on the side. I had friends 2 rows from the top. So at least he is doing his job with the students. Kentucky fans travel well though. All there is to see here.

It is called the endone regardless of event, it's not a reference to sport rather the setting chart. I used to work in the ticket office years ago and that is why it was referred to as for games, concerts or any shows. As far as 300 level that's about what I expected huge games where we get an excess of student that's the only place to put them. Most games though they have plenty of room down low.

I did hear that te students requeste an extra 1000 tickets for their allotment for the uk game. As you said ccm must being doing something right with the students.

I think he's done a pretty good job as well. He spent time writing those newsletters in the summer that gave fans a chance to learn a lot about who he is and what the team was going to look like. Like someone else said earlier, his job is not to beg fans to come. His job is to put a competitive basketball team on the floor. Which he has. Fans will notice eventually and come out hard. He's right on track. He has to earn people's time and money. He's done everything perfectly so far in order to do that. It will pay off.

When your argument breaks down posters simply resort to the number of post or grammar stance. That's what I have found to be the technique here at VN.

I wasn't even arguing with the poster, pretty much agreeing with everything then randomly points out my post count.

Fans shouldn't need a cheerleader to be excited about basketball. You don't see other coaches out there standing on tables and painting their chests. The reason why the attendance is down is because of all the butt hurt Pearl fans. We need UT fans, not Martin/Pearl fans. Playing the number 2 team in the country, no reason to not be there if you can go.

Exactly. Great post! People need to come out because they support the school not because the coach bought them pizza or jumped up and down. I understand that gets people excited, but even if your not overwhelmed with excitement show your support.

We have a crap fanbase. Surprise, surprise....

The bandwagoners will be back next season when we're a tourney team again.

I guess the OP would have rather had CM out painting his chest and acting crazy, than trying to develop some of the crap load of "talent" that Bruce had left him.

This guy is not a cheerleader, fans shouldn't need to be asked to come to the game. Those who sold tickets in the lower level to KY fans need their tickets taken away.

Bruce came in and did what Kiffin had to do, re-energize and dead fan base. He had to go out and paint his chest or stand on tables to get the students involved. I do agree with him though, it's pretty sad when your teams #1 rival rolls into town and they have more fans than we do. Of course this is Tennessee, it's what's exepected.

Give me a freaking break there wasn't more Kentucky fans in TBA then Tennessee fans. Were you there I'm guessing no? Amazing how the people that don't go to games are always the first ones to complain about the ones that do. You can make your point without wild misleading exagerrations. Also what does "of course this is Tennessee, it's what's expected" even mean? I'm sick of people bi**hing and moaning about the fans. With what this fan base has been through the past couple of years in both major sports it is remarkable the amount of support still given especially considering the product on the court/field. Tennessee fans have always been very supportive in good times and bad.

This thread is just unbelievable. I'm sorry Martin hasn't reached out to you but this was the KENTUCKY game. If you don't see a problem with our fans selling their seats to Kentucky, you just don't get it. I don't care who our coach is. It's a rivalry game; our coach shouldn't have to kiss up to our fanbase to drive up attendance. It makes me sick when I have to deal with UK fans in our lower bowl at TBA; or in football when we are playing Alabama in our own freaking house and there's as much red as orange. These fans belong up top, period. Fans like the OP and many who have posted in this thread just shouldn't bother; they are the root of this program's problems. It's why Tennessee basketball will never be taken seriously.

Coach Martin's job is to make sure him, his coaches, and his players represent the university correctly, and win games.

That's it.

and to throw local bbq's to beg fans to come to the games at tba. this is as much on the tennessee fans themselves and i guarantee you there are a couple reading this that are guilty. those lower level seats should not have been uk fans, they are tn fans for all other games, and those are season tickets. people either scalped them at the game, sold them on craigslist or stub hub, or gave them to other family members for this game. if tn fans would have held onto their own tickets you would have seen very little blue, and it would have been in the upper deck. if you want to blame anybody for this blame the tn fans, not the coach.

I have sat lower level behind the benches 8 out of the last 10 years at TBA for the UK game. Couldn't make the the trip this year, and won't give up my ticket source. But I do know several tour groups that rent travel buses and make the trip, where they score that many tickets is a good question.
