So fans are supposed to believe that Coach Martin was sifting through the basketball archives this morning, found this letter from the 1960s, thought to himself "Wow, this is interesting, I should tweet it to my followers," took the letter to a scanner, scanned it, and then tweeted it on his computer?

Uh huh.

Seriously, who is it that actually tweets this stuff?

I haven't heard much out of CM since we choked at the end of the year. Wouldn't mind him speaking every now and then. This was my University well before it was his.

It's pretty widely known that coaches have a social media person taking care of all that. The news sentinel did a story on Butch's guy a couple weeks ago.

SOME

Butch does some of his own tweets, and Martin does many of his own as well. It's a twitter account a few have access to and can post things on. With Martin, he probably has access, an assistant, and one or two media people.

Interesting article about some of the recruits who may have received this letter. I remember watching this game as an 8 year old. Enjoy!!

When Temple came to Tennessee 35 years ago this week, what happened was one of the more bizarre memories of the Ray Mears Era.

After 40 minutes, the Vols walked off the floor at Stokely Athletics Center an 11-6 winner in the lowest-scoring game of the modern era in college basketball.

The date was Dec. 15, 1973, the championship of the Volunteer Classic tournament. Temple coach Don Casey didn’t want to run with the Vols and had his Owls hold the ball for 32 of the 40 minutes.

Mears refused to budge from his zone defense so virtually nothing happened. Freshman Ernie Grunfeld scored to break a 5-5 tie with 12:44 left in the first half and Temple stalled until the break.

The second half passed without a field goal by either team. John Snow hit a technical free throw to make it 8-5 with 17:58 to play and the Owls went back into the deep freeze. Snow hit three more foul shots in the final seconds.

The 1973-74 Vols finished 17-9. The shot clock wasn’t introduced to the college game until 1985.

I see no promotion of the program outside of knoxville, and it leads to apathy.

Check out the S.H.O.T. clinic. It's basically a statewide promotion to sell the Vols to the younger crowd...did you also miss the big orange caravan that just went across the state?

Not just that, but I'd say Martin has a lot on his plate given the situation that has risen regarding a former player. Not much time to actually go out and promote when that crap is going on.

I was at this game as a 13 year-old with my Dad. My first UT game ever. Recall the crowd booing the Template team.

had no idea the caravan came through here. Was there a turnout?

I just think CM has needed to do a state of the program speech for awhile. Nobody has much idea of what is going on with these guys on or off the court.

I wasn't there so I'm not sure, sounded like the turnout was good though from reports.

I too was at this game. I was a 16 junior in high school. All I really remember about the game is the fans booing the Temple guys.

The VC was a pretty cool thing back in the day.

So you're pretty much admitting the problem is with you not knowing what's going on, rather than Martin isn't doing enough?

It varies from coach to coach, but in Martin's case, he is the only one with access to his account. I believe he took a photo of that letter, didn't scan it.

Sparty- Right now is literally the only down time for college basketball coaches. This is when they get their vacation. Of course, Martin was in Memphis last week at the BO Caravan, and I assume he will be at the ones the next couple of weeks in Nashville, Chattanooga, and Atlanta.

I heard Dan Dakich on radio at the end of college basketball season, and he said that he and his wife were able to schedule a perfect pregnancy for one of their kids to be born around June 1. He said, otherwise, he was working the rest of the year.

Also, I don't understand why we are questioning twitter. It is being used so much that it makes sense for a coach to have someone help them with it. I don't use Twitter or Facebook, and I have enough other things to be responsible for.

Turn on your radio. He's spoke about three times since the end of season. Hate Zo much?
