Former ND coach Muffet speak out about ESPN being bias, helped Uconn recruit and promote them. She also maintained that all Candace Parker complained was the truth. My question was, why didn't she say anything when she was coaching? Not that wat she said wasn't true.

She's only speaking for herself now. When she spoke as the coach at Notre Dame, she was speaking on behalf of Notre Dame basketball, and everyone who worked for the Notre Dame AD responsible for women's basketball, and her former and current players. In that role, under the relationship established between colleges and ESPN, she had to protect her people and her team's interests and future opportunities. A position like that, a lot of people depend on you, and you have to be very careful about making enemies.

But again, she's only speaking for herself now, so she can call it clean as she sees it. ESPN owns college sports right now. They bought it, and they can treat it almost literally however they want. ESPN and UConn are 50 miles apart. If you want to be in broadcasting, which is one of the more visible and obvious paths forward for former athletes looking for work, Storrs is an hour away by car. All those "visits" to Bristol, all the fawning over UConn on their TV shows, the obvious connections and potential for internships or open doors to ESPN, this is not some kind of mystery. But no one wants to piss ESPN off, because a lot of the job prospects go through ESPN. And that brings us back to McGraw, who has to think carefully when she says anything as Notre Dame's coach, lest she poison the well for her players or anyone else she's connected to professionally.

I mean, come on. How many times during Tennessee games on ESPN or ESPN2 in the past ten years have we had to hear about UConn's record, or its upcoming games, or see Geno's record compared to Pat's and VanDerveer's? How often in the past year have we had to hear about Paige Bueckers? This isn't rocket science. UConn has been the "national brand" for women's basketball and ESPN has helped reinforce that national brand because it's their product and they are gonna market that product every chance they can get. So it becomes a feedback loop, and so long as UConn doesn't start pooping their pants on the court, it'll stay that way. Well, until a certain lovable and totally charming individual decides he's ready to move on.

Do you think that they would have still been talking about UConn if they weren't completely dominating? I recall that the year after SC won the NC, all we saw was the shot by Morgan WIlliam that ended UConn's winning streak. Then the following year, we were treated to Arike hitting the game winner in the NC game vs. MSST, as well as talking about Sabrina Ionescu non-stop. The only reason that UConn was on anyone's tongue last year was because Paige put together a great freshman campaign and was named NPOY. Now that she's out, we will be treated to constant reminders that SC is unbeaten, and that will be the storyline until a better one pops up.

UConn was the National Brand for ESPN because they WERE the big story in WCBB for the better part of the decade. It;s debatable that they are now in light of Paige's injury and them slipping out of the top 10 (which, by the way, is a reminder of how ESPN also tracked Tennessee's free fall during the Holly years). The UConn luster has since faded since their 4-peat, and the spotlight is being shined on other teams/players. If SC wins this year and Boston ends up winning NPOY, that will be the storyline next year as well unless SC starts to show some cracks.

Volnationnj I see no relationship in concerns about inequality in women basketball recruiting and a financial contract regarding football. Your logic does not compute for me.
It's a financial and an exposure advantage. The SEC teams earn more money than teams in any other conference. They also get nationwide exposure and advertisement from ESPN. Those advantages translate to a recruiting advantage. It may not have been proportionately as great as the uconn advantage in wcbb (Wcbb generates a very small fraction of what football does. So any advantage has a disproportionate effect)
, but it's still an advantage.

Some people will say she's bitter or jealous of Uconn. She really doesn't have to be and has no reason but to tell the truth. None of this will benefit her in any way. On top of that so many other respected players called BS of the snub (Lesile, Thompson, Suzy Favor and more) ...They knew it was a sham. Even a few of the coaches from other countries weighed in on it. Look what the Opals coach said:

The reverberations washed overseas, too. Brendan Joyce, the coach of the Australia Opals, said Parker was one of the top three players in the world.

"I think everybody would be surprised if they left her out of the team," Joyce said on the eve of the announcement. "I think she is in the top three players in the world and with her versatility, she has been a defensive nightmare for us."

Joyce, we knew it was coming, but feel free to remain astonished. You had no way of knowing the politics that were in play

I remember another coach calling it crazy and said they'd take her any day she was one of the best in the world.

I've said this 100 times and I think Candace said it. No way would this happen in the mens game. Curry, Davis Durant lol sure explain saying you're sending the best team to win a gold medal and snub one of them LMAO !!!! Wouldnt happen. Anyone who doesn't accept the reality this was personal is delusional.....

Shaking our heads

What I liked about the short clip is she didn't just call out ESPN but NBC's relationship with ND too. She's an insider who is speaking freely. She knows more than us posters and those on the boneyard.

How on earth is it ESPNs fault for wanting to maximize viewers?

She left out the part about Notre Dame getting all the advantages in recruiting and everything else just by virtue of fact they are Notre Dame.

I forget the name of the player who was allowed to play immediately .... no having to sit out a year .... and helped them to the championship

Muffet is a great coach but wah wah wah

True story, pot calls the kettle black to a certain extent. Geno still has more skeletons in the closet
