Coach VOLitello’s current contract?

"We"? Assuming you are talking about fans, I'd say Pearl fits. Tyndall also was a guy I hated to lose.

You can’t consider Pearl with show cause. He’s talking about another school hiring the coach away from us.

That 900k was over 2 years. Really peanuts in the grand scheme of football, and I get why they did it.

Vitello will get paid- not sure why people are worried about our end at this point. If he leaves, it’s because he wanted to leave.
It was stupid waste of money. Steele didn’t earn anymore than if we paid him $35,000. It just offset what Auburn paid him. My point is UT throws around money like it has a bottomless pit and they can throw it around as they please. That is the reason I didn’t make donation this year and I told them so. My football tickets are grandfathered in so no loss to me. If they have that money to waste they can pay a baseball coach whatever they have to. At least in this case we get something in return.

This was a hot topic in Segment 9 of yesterday's Sports Source Show which is on You Tube if anyone wants to watch.

I didn’t say it was the best spent money, but I understand why it was done. But it’s nothing when compared to the football budget. Obviously the head coach hires have been poor, but they did save aboit $12 million this time around.

Being an attorney, I would guess that they buttoned up the issues quite well with their investigation. If Pruitt wants to open up some cans of worms in discovery, then I suggest he get going.

Yeah, his lawyer made some noise a while back, but it's been crickets since. So, you tell me, will Pruitt's lawyer hound them enough to get a couple million just so that UT can avoid court? Will he play that game? I sure hope you're right that UT is on solid ground. We really can't afford the buyout.

I wouldn’t settle for virtually anything until a lawsuit was filed. Maybe if he wants just something small. But you call their bluff.

I have no issue paying Vitello a premium salary in college baseball if it means we get to keep him. As others have pointed out, a premium salary in baseball pales in comparison to football or even basketball.

I understand the argument that he doesn’t have any titles so he shouldn’t be paid like it, but I’d rather overpay to continue the trajectory we’re on than underpay and have to look for another needle in a haystack. In the grand scheme of things, it doesn’t really matter if we’re paying him $1.1 million or $1.6 million as that is pocket change for the university. We paid Jim Chaney $1.2 million to be a coordinator who produced abysmal results. I’m fine with paying our skipper a bit more seeing as in 4 short years (really 3) he’s brought us to the top of the toughest conference in college baseball.

You make a good case. If he walks, then what do we do? Do we put 30+ million into LNS without Vitello, but with some other coach on board? Or do we not spend the money on the stadium and go back to being who we were? I don't like either of those scenarios. I think we can break even in revenue vs output if we make the investment. And salaries pale in comparison to the stadium investment.

I said a while ago Vitello needs to win something before you justify going crazy salary wise. He won the East, thanks VU, he played in the SEC Championship in year 4....

It took Van Horne 19 years to win that game.

If Heupel wins enough to get to the SEC Championship in 4 years, it won’t be a discussion.

Maybe I have a simplistic view on this matter but it seems quite simple to me. If you want to own a Porsche you are going to have to spend some cash. If you are fine in a Pinto, then your cash outflow is much less. Apply that to stadium renovations, a Porsche get the sweet garage and car cover and everything else, the Pinto, it cool to just park under the tree. Who cares if the birds poop on it?

Most unintelligent discussion of college baseball I have ever seen, but I appreciate the heads up.

Done the right way, UT baseball can pay for itself. People say it’s not possible, I respectfully disagree.
Yea, they got nothing.
