Coachery

I have some insight this morning, but talked to my friend prior to the news about Pruitt flying to see Henry T. I can’t confirm anything about that. Nobody shared any details about Pruitt’s interview inside/among the staff. They had two meetings. The first one was with the investigators from
2-5, and a second meeting with AD counsel and Pruitt counsel. My friend thinks they tried to negotiate a reduced buyout. He thinks Pruitt did not accept. He believes that the wrangling isn’t over yet. He said the largest problem is current players, signees, and recruits do not believe they’re being told the truth. They’ve been talked to by Pruitt, Fulmer and their position coaches. The players and parents want clear answers. Students report back to campus next Tuesday. It is the word possible time for instability. My friend says the whole department is in a haze. They thought a buyout scenario was the most likely outcome. With Pruitt digging in, things are a lot messier. The initial findings report from internal counsel will be shared with the university next week, and NCAA after. That’s all I have for now.
Unbelievable

Believe who you choose to. I don't mean to talk in code or anything. This whole flying to see Henry T. is to keep him from bolting to Bama from the TN side of things. It's basically making the connection between Steele and Henry T. and trying to keep him from leaving.

The thing I am worried about - and it's not that Pruitt is coming back - is that there's about a 30-40% chance IMO that Kevin Steele will be the interim head coach on the sidelines this fall. I still think there's a better chance we wind up with Marrone (who I don't want) or Chadwell (who I would much rather have) than Steele being the interim in the fall though.
Who would you pick between Pruitt or Steele as HC for 1 year?

Stubborn pride and egos......that is what this is all about. It went beyond football a long time ago and that is really the saddest part about this whole thing. At a time when everyone is looking for something that shows they really are concerned about the program and the fans that have helped build the brand with money and support this is what we get.

Anybody that doesn't believe the fans are one of the biggest part of this school whether they are an Alumni or not is terribly mistaken. Every time you see a hat, shirt or sticker that has VOLS on it that is a billboard for the University of Tennessee and its programs and they are tearing that billboard down one fan at a time.

This is more than anyone else can give, we all appreciate it! I mean I get he turned down a buyout and all, anyone has to respect someone angling to get their full pay--regardless of how we feel about them--but I have to say, a little part of me does respect Pruitt a little bit. To know you're not wanted at your job by, if this is true, both your boss and your fans, and yet you still stick around to do the best you can, there's some respect there. Now, should he take the money and run, definitely! But I see why he wouldn't and can't say I wouldn't do the same if I thought I stood a chance of not getting the axe with cause.

That is a total misread of the situation. Pruitt isn't sticking around to do the best he can at his job. Pruitt is sticking around to do the best that he can for Pruitt. If Fulmer and the administration want Pruitt to be gone, then he'll be gone. This isn't about Pruitt doing the best he can at the job. This is about money and nothing but money. He is trying to use leverage to force UT to fire him and give him the full payout.

If the only options were Kevin Steele and Beldar, then I'd go with Steele in a heartbeat. He's older, wiser, far more experienced, more intelligent, he's a former UT student, and his appearance and demeanor are formidable. Perhaps most importantly, he has a good basic command of the English language and he can deliver sentences that are both complete and coherent.

Jeremy Pruitt, on the other hand, probably deserves more comparison with Jeff Boomhauer from "King of the Hill" than with Beldar.

If you'll read my post, you'll see I address the fact that this is about money because JP won't accept the lower buyout--which anyone in his shoes would do if they thought they were safe, which he obviously does as does the university (they're not letting him go anywhere outside of Knoxville if he's getting canned).

Now, with that being said, he obviously is doing the best he can to save his job or else he'd wait and see what Henry T does without going all the way out there to speak with him.

And I hate to break it to you, but the fact that he hasn't been fired yet and is allowed to go to California, shows you that they don't want him to be gone. And if they did, they fact this is happening should also tell you that they don't have the money to get rid of him.

What if Steele goes 5-3 in conference with a win over Florida and a loss to Kentucky? Do you take the interim tag off and he's our guy or are we overhauling the staff with a new HC?

I’m curious about the 2nd meeting. By”AD Counsel” does that mean just attorney’s or are Fulmer,Plowman and Boyd also present in the meeting.

Pruitt had a personal attorney from Birmingham, and AD had an attorney with them.

John Brice reported this morning in Football Scoop that Pruitt was represented yesterday by Enrique “Henry” Gimenez of the Lightfoot, Franklin and White firm that has partnerships in Birmingham, Alabama, and Houston. Gimenez has represented coaches at other SEC schools.
Ryan Stinnett is UT's general counsel. He reports to Randy Boyd and the Board of Trust.

I’m not thinking that far ahead! The crucial thing right now is Pruitt's departure as soon as possible.

Yeah. I get that.
Would you prefer to keep Jeremy Pruitt and let him continue his on-the-job learning? The best case for Pruitt is that he has a speech disorder; however, if he is not speech-disordered, then one must question his literacy and basic intelligence. In this matter alone Steele is his superior.

I’d prefer that our current coach turn things around and we are successfully competing for the east. However, I know I’m a nobody and my preferences don’t matter. But between the 2 options of Steele or Pruitt, one could argue that Pruitt has more relevant experience as a HC regardless of grammar or basic sentence structuring.

I thought that might be your sentiment, and I will not attack you for it. However, I am convinced that Pruitt is incapable of returning us to the level of performance necessary to successfully compete for the SEC-E.

They both have many things in common. They both are defensive guys, they are good at recruiting, they are both experienced with all of the SEC, both worked on Ala. staff and both have terrible records as a HC.....enough said.

I appreciate the civil discussion honestly. I see and understand how you feel the way you do. The results aren’t there yet. I have no idea who will get us where we want to be.

I don't either. I never thought I'd look back on the Butch Jones years with some degree of nostalgia.
Ha there were some great memories during the Butch era, namely Dobbs Hail Mary and Jennings torching Teez. I’m not there yet with Pruitt like I was with Butch or Dooley. Not to say I won’t be or I won’t be excited and hopeful if a new coach is hired. I’m a fan and just choose not to complain I guess (Not knocking those who do). Lol
